hi, does anyone know if there is a browser(s) that does not feed info back to google?. I use linux but am not a geek (unfortunately) so cannot access the linux info sites! I can access a windows platform but for eg: firefox sends info to google I have been informed?. I mean subject, key words, ip address etc. I am trying to avoid my browsing being logged by anyone either bitcoin related or otherwise. I do not accept if you are doing nothing wrong you do not have to worry because what is legal today can easily become illegal tomorrow!. regards.

3  Economy / Service Discussion / are localbitcoin implementing kyc by the back door? on: July 22, 2014, 09:36:43 AM
hi, I am having my first problem with using lbtc in two years. I am going into dispute but the points raised are not clear to me perhaps some insights from the community can clarify the problem. I bought btc and paid within 5 minutes using faster payments in the uk. However the seller would not release the btc from escrow until I sent a photograph of my credit card (back and front with sensitive data covered) to them as ID. I could not as I do not have any means of doing that -I only have a pay as you go phone so I asked for what else they would accept. I got no reply and they said a dispute with  lbtc would require this information anyway? As I have never been in this situation but it raises some issues.
 1) I do not know anywhere in the world a credit card is accepted as ID- It could be stolen!
2)The seller never informed me prior to the transaction that this was a requirement so beware of sending money to sellers unless you can comply and get the btc's released from escrow within 90 minuits.
 3) The seller said "scammers on this site  are using other peoples a/c to buy btc's". I would also like to know how to do this - any suggestions please!! If it turns out that lbtc do require some form of recognised ID then they are imo applying kyc through the backdoor and should be up front about it. comments welcome.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / wallet.dat corrupted on: February 16, 2014, 09:16:08 AM
hi for some reason my back up file could not be loaded? I usually update weekly and copy the wallet.dat to a memory stick. last time it seemed normal but when i tried to update this week it said cannot load wallet.dat is corrupted?. I do not know how or if it can be recovered/repaired or how to access my client now as I do not leave the wallet.dat on a computer connected to the internet. I have another copy but not easily accessable but am worried something fundamental has gone wrong with my copy of the blockchain or computer and do not know what to do or check? anyone!
ps:
I am running bitcoin 0.8.1 qt version 4.7.3 on a linux os system. its been running sucessfully since the last update up to now?

Borrowed from another thread:
!) China has declared BTC not a currency but a commodity and has banned conversion into CNY. also banned sale of mining equipment via their equivalent of e-bay. But as can be seen here there is a constant day and night conversion of CNY into BTC?. what will the chinese ban next ? the internet? talking? thought? sex?.
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / tracing btc addresses? on: December 05, 2013, 09:11:06 AM
hi, I have sent btc addresses on the net to other computers by e-mail. Now I am thinking as these are all stored by the NSA is there a link in the address or blockchain to a specific IP?. I need to change to a cryptographic e-mail for sure but is the damage done. I have used tor for some transactions but it is not on all my computers yet! servers are only too happy to give address locations of ip's of their customers to anyone with a uniform or badge. how concerned should I be? reg

hi, anyone noticed that the euro has held a stronger price than the dollar this weekend ?
euro 76= $100 but the price on the chart shows $56?
given the dramatic falls the last few days in gold down a few hundred dollars and a general sell of of all fiat currencies are some fiat/gold holders losers? are they nervous? comments/thoughts?

13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Where are bfl asics? why no discussion/information on: March 27, 2013, 12:13:18 PM
Butterfly Labs and bASIC (another ASIC developer that ultimately failed to launch) were supposed to launch in succession. But due to various complications and delays, it didn’t work out that way.

If they had delivered on their promises, they would have shipped months before our first batch.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / 0.8.1 upgrade help (sorted today by liamwli) thanks on: March 26, 2013, 08:29:31 AM
non tech user needs help to upgrade: current client 4.7.3. System linuxOS I have teamviewer7 installed.
I downloaded upgrade (linux.tar.gz)and extracted to documents folder. I used split screen to click, drag and copy update to old version- this now does say it is bitcoin 0.8.1 but when I run client nothing has changed it still says it is old version? it does no rescan and loads in normal time 2-3 min whereas Gavin said it could take a few hours?
anyone! reg
ps I do not know what I am doing wrong?
have I loaded the wrong version?
Is there something else in "just copy it over" I need to do?
Should the icon on the desktop also be changed?
15  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / strange transaction on: March 18, 2013, 08:45:07 AM
background: the following transaction caused me to do a rescan (incorrectly). psy assisted me recover my client (detailed in tech support) and thought it would resolve this transaction. It did not! here it is:

 Status: 2130 confirmations
Date: 3/5/13 17:10
Debit: -0.04516 BTC
Debit: -0.00717549 BTC
Debit: -0.00716474 BTC
Net amount: -0.05950023 BTC
Transaction ID: e7fcb782ce3d36e5d33858ac112a1c29ce118f65a4f8ed25ee641e11050b6a8d

No send address for this amount was generated by me?. The "recent transactions box" shows an arrow both in and out? The transaction history shows just a debit for this in my client.

Would someone who is very very clever kindly have a look at this and offer an explanation as to how this occured?. If it can be recovered all the better but a rescan did not work? It is a small amount and if it is gone it is gone but if it happens again to a larger amount or to someone important it needs in principle to be understood!. regards reg.

This program uses Qt version 4.7.3.

quick advice please

one of my recent transactions showed a weird sign (probably due to a power outage whilst updating) it was a box with arrows in and out? a small deduction on my balance and n/a  in subject?. I did a rescan and expected transactions to appear as it neared completion? its been running a few days and although nearly complete (less than 10000 blks to go nothing shows? yet I have been using client for nearly a year? I am now getting worried I have corrupted my wallet.dat by doing a rescan yet it shows 148 kb's any ideas please (I am not very technical) reg

latest: the rescan is nearly complete  <4000 blks to go but still "0" transactions. Its qt bitcoin 4.7.3

is this normal? I had receiving addresses in my wallet.dat from glbse and receive dividends from them.

I tried to copy my wallet.dat into a blockchain.info but could not do it because I can't get the memory stick and program on at the same time to click and drag? copy and paste does not work for some reason I don't know?.I am using Linux os a basic version! it has been running fine until a week ago? I am out of my depth and need to know if my client can be/will be saved? anyone?. reg
