1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Problems using RPi with cgminer on: August 20, 2012, 05:16:51 PM
So I have finally switched over to using my Raspberry Pi to manage my BFL Singles so that I can have my laptop back, but I'm running into some problems. I was using the Windows 7 version on my laptop, and while I did have a few problems (was still using 2.3.6 because it worked best), everything was pretty good. However, after switching to linux which I am not as familiar with, more problems are coming up. The biggest one is that all my singles sometimes refuse to run at stock speeds, which they have been for months using the windows version of cgminer. Also, more importantly about 1/3rd of them throw "Comms Error" and go down to 0MH/s. I've seen it on different units at different times, so it doesn't appear to be necessarily related to individual units.

I'm not really sure what causes these to happen, so I'm not really sure how to start troubleshooting it. Anyone have any idea? This is really driving me crazy...
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Installing earlier version of cgminer on RPi on: August 10, 2012, 02:55:21 AM
So I have successfully installed 2.6.4 on my RPi (thanks to wogaut in this thread), except man is it full of problems. My 9 singles ran fine for months on 2.3.6 at slightly overclocked speeds. Then I use 2.6.4 and it throws all sorts of errors. As far as I can tell, without a good knowledge of linux, this is the only way to install that I can find currently, which uses the github zip.

Does anyone know where to find archived/older github zips? Or alternatively how to install on the RPi from older .tar files?
3  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD]Seasonic x750 on: July 26, 2012, 04:11:35 AM
Ok so I will not expanding my operations as much as I was anticipating originally, thus this extra PSU is up for sale.

I shouldn't need to say much about the quality, because I think pretty much everyone knows Seasonic.

Bought two NIB from JWU42, used one and this one sat underneath my bed for a few months. Still NIB condition.

Asking 14btc shipped to the CONUS. This needs to go in a week as I am moving out of state, so let's make it happen.

4  Economy / Goods / Ghillie Suit on: July 23, 2012, 12:28:21 AM
I bought this a few years ago just for kicks, and while it was fun to scare people with, I haven't really used it. I'm moving to Oregon in two weeks and I really don't want to take it with me.

While functional, this suit is not top-shelf quality. It's three pieces: pants, jacket, and hood. The pants have a drawstring elastic waist and the jacket's sleeves are really long. So unless you are gargantuan, this will fit you. I'm 6' 160 and it was a bit roomy.

Price is 5 btc shipped to the US only. I won't ship to CA or INT, it's just too much hassle for this particular thing.

I have heat under xDGDZEx.

I'm on btc-otc, and I'm also willing to use an escrow service (I have used btcrow in the past and had good experiences).

Bonus Tip -> Great to scare cats with!

5  Economy / Goods / Red Robin Gift Card - $50 on: June 13, 2012, 03:25:12 AM
I have a $50 RR gift card that I received as a gift. I'm not really a fan of Red Robin, and I need the money for so that I can make rent when I go back to school.

Asking 4.5 btc price is firm. Will ship to US only.

6  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD] C2Q/4GB DDR2/VX450 on: May 12, 2012, 03:16:35 AM
I have some parts left over from a build that I scavenged for my new PC.

Intel C2Q 8200: 13 5.5 BTC shipped

2x2GB G.Skill DDR2 (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ): 6.5 BTC shipped SOLD FOR 5.999999 to RickPicker

Corsair VX450 PSU: 5 BTC shipped (after shipping, I'm practically giving it away!) SOLD
This is the super amazing model that isn't made any more. Replaced by the cx430 I think. But anyways I just love this thing so much, I can't bear it just collecting dust  Cry

All prices listed are for the CONUS only. Will ship to AK and HI for additional charge. No international shipping.

I have heat under xDGDZEx

Also just signed up on bticoin-otc

I am willing to use an escrow service of your choosing (or I can choose).

Or, if you have good rep (Heat, bitcoin-otc, etc) I would be willing to cross ship.

Just PM me if you have any additional questions.

EDIT: Also I reserve the right to adjust the price (both up and down) if the price varies more than 10% from $4.90

7  Other / Off-topic / Problems with CGMiner 2.4.1 and Singles? on: May 10, 2012, 10:00:19 PM
Is anyone else having this problem? Just downloaded version 2.4.1, and saw this

Couldn't find any reference to this problem in the cgminer thread, so I thought I would ask here.
8  Other / Off-topic / Max power draw for the fan header on the BFL single? on: May 01, 2012, 04:53:51 AM
I'm thinking about replacing the fans on my singles with something that has a bit more oomph. Are there any published specs on this to anyone's knowledge?
9  Other / Off-topic / Quality of BFL power adapters on: April 29, 2012, 07:32:27 PM
I just thought that I would put this up for people to see. I have 8 singles (Rev 2 and 3) and chose to include the power adapters because I didn't have a PSU to use them with.

Long story short, out of 8, 1 made a horrendous burning smell when powered on, and 1 died within a week. So that is a 25% failure rate from my experience.

I get that they are cheap, I wasn't expecting much in the way of efficiency, but goodness...for $600, I was hoping that the power adapters would last.

To their credit, BFL has been making an effort to improve CS and I had one replacement in my hands 3 days after I received my singles and discovered the defective adapter. However, when the second one failed, I sent them another email, offering to ship back the defective ones for proof that I wasn't just taking them for a ride. Still haven't heard back after ~2 weeks.  Undecided

Just an FYI
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Using COM ports above 9 on: April 13, 2012, 11:02:54 PM
Hi guys,

Until I get raspberry pi, I'm stuck running my BFL singles on my main rig (W7). I have a 10 port hub hooked up to connect them all. I have all of the drivers installed to use COM ports, and my first 5 singles take up ports 5-9 and are working fine. My problem is using ports above 9 (specifically 10-12). They are not being used for anything else according to device manager, but when I point my singles to those ports, CGminer wont recognize them. I'm using .bat files to start them, and everything works fine on the first 5.

Can anyone think of a reason that COM ports above 9 would cause problems? I tried reassigning the other ones to ports 2-4 (which were already in use), but that seemed to bring on weird BSODs. So I'm going back to trying to get the unused ports to work. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!
11  Other / Off-topic / Acrylic Case for BFL Singles on: March 23, 2012, 08:15:10 PM
As the rest of my singles are due to arrive soon, I am contemplating the issue of where exactly I am going to put them. I would eventually like to have them on their own computer (Raspberry Pi or a small Atom HTPC), but for now they will have to be in my room attached to my main rig. Now, even though they are quiet and don't produce as much heat as GPUs, even a couple are enough to raise the temperature of my room too much for my liking.

So I'm trying to devise an enclosure for them. My best idea as of now is making a cube (2 layers stacked on top of each other) or a rectangle (1 layer) out of clear acrylic and putting peel and stick soundproofing on the inside. Then drilling holes in the back for a usb and power pass through, as well as holes on the top and bottom for ventilation.

Does anyone have any ideas to make something like this? I want to really think it through before making it. I was even thinking about using flexible dryer vent pipe to route cool air in from outside and hot air back out.

Let's discuss.  Grin
