Minnesota’s World Fair Will Feature Innovation
From 3D printing and Xbox to robotics and digital currency, Minnesota's plans to host Expo 2023 puts our innovative culture center stage. Wendy Meadley, communications lead for Expo 2023: The Minnesota World’s Fair, invites Minnesota state fair attendees to stop by the booth and experience 3D printing, and Bitcoin's digital currency first hand.

Minneapolis, Twin Cities Minnesota (PRWEB) August 28, 2014

Momentum is building for our bid to host Expo 2023: Minnesota’s World Fair. State Fair visitors can get a glimpse at the plans being developed by stopping by the Expo 2023 booth in the Grandstand – on the ground level on the west side. In addition to seeing examples of some of Minnesota’s most innovative technology – like 3D printing from Stratasys – visitors can also participate in the selection process for the theme using the latest Xbox Kinect technology. The use of “crowd sourcing” to gather ideas for the theme is just one of the ways that Expo 2023 is using new technology to engage Minnesotans. Crowd funding is also a new feature, something that has never been used for a global event such as this.
“We are making it easy and fun for fairgoers to actively participate in bringing a World’s Fair to Minnesota,” says Wendy Meadley, strategic communications lead for Expo 2023: The Minnesota World’s Fair. “People are excited to know that they can help bring the 2023 World Fair here to Minnesota.”
Expo 2023 has also broken new ground by accepting contributions through Bitcoin payments. “Creating a truly visionary World’s Fair here in Minnesota requires looking into the future. We can already see that digital currency is one of these exciting innovations,” shares Meadley.
Expo 2023’s state fair booth is being staffed by volunteers from some of Minnesota’s most forward-thinking businesses and organizations. “Several of our members from MN Women In Networking (WIN) volunteered at the Expo 2023 booth. It was fun to talk with people who had been to a prior World's Fair because they could understand the scope of what this will mean for Minnesota,” commented Teresa Thomas, director of WIN. “Can you imagine bringing the World's Fair here in 2023? How exciting!”
About Expo 2023
Expo 2023 is a campaign to bring the 2023 World’s Fair to Minnesota. We are a citizen committee that has enjoyed the support and volunteer effort from thousands of Minnesotans. We need your support and participation! For more information, visit http://www.expo2023.info.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and its "shareholders" should decide its status: Currency or Security? on: August 22, 2014, 03:49:50 PM
With the recent US Judge ruling (effectively a fiat declaration btw ;-) -- that Bitcoin is a "money" ...

It occurs to me that a blockchain should be able to elect for itself if its a currency or an asset!

If I created a version of Bitcoin that had say a 24-hour target block time and required 7 confirms I doubt anyone would consider it a 'money' or 'currency' if it took a week to spend.

What do you think?

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Looking for details on PoS Rewards aka "interest" / coin source on: August 06, 2014, 09:01:50 PM
Apologies if this has been asked/answered before -- I'm trying to google my way to the answer but I'm just not getting my head wrapped around this part...

I totally get TXfee's et al in terms of "end game" for a mined out block-chain like Bitcoin....but...

If a coinbase is completely pre-mined or "mined-out" -- where do the PoS reward coins come from?

Let's say I have POSCOIN with 1M coins total, and they have all been mined out (premined or PoW phase, whatever)

How are PoS rewards aka "interest" generated ?

Assuming our POSCOIN is advertised to pay 5% on staked coins -- does this mean that, in theory, the coinbase is going to grow by 50,000 coins at the end of year one?

IDCoin

Identity and Reputation Cryptocurrency Coinbase Supporting a Web of Trust

This is an exploratory concept Bitcoin-like system based in part on GPG/PGP with a Degrees of Separation Web of Trust as well as reputation based on txfee's to be paid to miners.

Gathering feedback right now at https://startjoin.com/IDCoin

A Coinbase for Identity and Reputation

IDCoin will be designed to be an 80/20 Proof of Stake / Proof of Work based blockchain that will establish both Identity as well as Reputation in a public ledger.

The generation and addition of a GPG/PGP key will suffice as the "proof of work" as well as the "key signing" of other members keys. The system will be designed to award coins based on addition of validated keys, the signing of additional keys to build out the Web of Trust.

We are essentially creating a single system of record for GPG & PGP keys.

Reputation will be leveraged through transactions, whereby Transaction Fee's will be used to "vote with your coins."

Feedback can easily be calibrated based on the identity of the individual leaving it -- we can work to make a "neutral" rating safe again as compared to the "grade inflation" we see in markets like Ebay where everyone is essentially shamed into providing only positive feedback.

You would be able to determine with a high degree of confidence WHO the identity of an individual (or autonomous computer system) is -- you could also see what kind of reputation they had. What do people think about them based on their transactional history. If you are a counter-party to a transaction you should have the right to express your sentiment without fear of censure. Think about every time you go through a drive-thru to get food or coffee. Is every experience really a five-star? With IDCoin you could simply acknowledge that you had an experience that was neither positive nor negative.

With IDCoin you could instantly determine if someone's +5 rating actually meant anything especially if they gave everyone +5. You could instantly baseline the feedback.

With a Web of Trust model you could choose to transact with people and business that are say only within 3 or 4 degree's of separation. In this way you could completely detect and ignore any asto-turfing.

IDcoin is different than http://identifi.org in that it will be based on PGP/GPG and will work to create plugins to support email clients. In this way you could generate coins just by sending an encrypted email.

IDcoin will also differentiate itself from Namecoin (NMC) though we would absolutely look at ways to potentially leverage it as well. The general problem with block-chain based approaches is the current need to have clients download and maintain their own copy. This should absolutely be an OPTION but not a hard REQUIREMENT -- we conceive of a model through the Web of Trust that you could elect to essentially ATTACH to any public node that has a sufficient level of TRUST associated with it based on your own own level of confidence within whatever degrees of separation you're willing to permit. In this way the system supports a variant of check-pointing.

In fact our current design allows you the ability to link a TXID from any other blockchain into the web-of-trust -- so if you spend Bitcoins with a vendor you can link that TXID AND your feedback into the chain.

In our IDCoin model Web of Trust, you could leverage Notary Publics who have been DEPUTIZED by institutions you find credible to perform key-signing services. For example, we conceive of a system that would support say Rotary International to use our system as a public ledger for their membership roster. In fact with our IDCoin ANYONE could obtain and demonstrate AFFINITY with any organization they so choose to. It can act as a TRANSCRIPT or a RESUME/CV -- your company could digitally acknowledge that you are an employee from some period of time. Your performance could be logged if you so choose to use it that way.

IDCoin could be used to take credit for ANY transaction in any other blockchain. Our current designs include the ability to insert FOREIGN_TX into the chain that would include CHAIN and TXID. From there you could find the ADDRESSES and AMOUNT. Of course you would have to take credit for an address first -- this OPT-IN method completely de-anonymizes the crypto-currency transaction which may be required in the future by some financial institutions.

UPDATE:  Thread moved to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=711305.0

I just posted this article on LinkedIN

http://linkd.in/1oHsfg9

I'm trying out a "concept" crowdfunding thing personally over on STARTjoin.com -- it's not a full blown project, just a place where people can express interest in an idea.

I've talked about this before -- a #bitcoin like currency that would act as a stand in for both Identity and Reputation. The idea is that you would get coins for producing a GPG/PGP key and adding it to the blockchain as well as signing others keys. You spend your coins on feedback in transactions on other blockchains. Those coins show how you vote with your dollars and go to the miners who are working to verify and secure the network.

The system will be designed to award coins based on addition of validated keys, the signing of additional keys and the spending of coins on feedback to build out the Web of Trust.

We are essentially creating a single system of record for GPG & PGP keys.

Reputation will be leveraged through transactions, whereby Transaction Fee's will be used to "vote with your coins." Those coins go to the network of miners working to keep the chain safe.

Feedback can easily be calibrated based on the identity of the individual leaving it -- we can work to make a "neutral" rating safe again as compared to the "grade inflation" we see in markets like Ebay where everyone is essentially shamed into providing only positive feedback.

With IDCOIN you could instantly determine if someone's +5 rating actually meant anything especially if they gave everyone +5. You could instantly baseline the feedback.

With a Web of Trust model you could choose to transact with people and business that are say only within 3 or 4 degree's of separation. In this way you could completely detect and ignore any astro-turfing.

IDcoin could essentially pose a threat to global credit reporting agencies stranglehold on "reputation."

Interested?

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / RFC / METAcoin / A Mutual Fund of Cryptocurrencies ? on: July 11, 2014, 09:54:33 PM
[Request For Comment]

I've been kicking around the idea of spinning up a METAcoin based on the basket of currencies I currently hold as a way of creating a blockchain with an instant valuation, backstopped by my holdings setting a floor exchange value.

Pinged Max Keiser over at STARTjoin and he seems interested in the idea.

I've done a bit of simulation but nothing rigorous yet to see how it would function.

Basically it would start life as a pre-mine with the transactions holding the coin addresses of the seed capital that could be instantly verified at any moment to determine the total bases worth.  Coins would be distributed by acquisition from the original wallet/vault and fully disclosed much like an exchange.

Here's the kicker.  The value would essentially increase based on the distribution as all coins used to acquire would be held in the vault so the per coin price would rise as they were exchanged until fully distributed.

So for arguments sake lets say I kick if off with 100 BTC and 5000 LTC backing the initial seed value and have say have a total 10M coins.  That puts a par value of about .00995/USD per METAcoin.  The first distribution goes for say 10 BTC in exchange for 623K of METAcoin raising the value to now .01057/USD per METAcoin.  The next distribution for 10 BTC gets 586K METAcoin but also now raises the value to around .0112/USD per METAcoin.

And yes, I did just register "metacoin.net" and "metacoin.club" :-)

It would likely be a pure Proof of Stake based system but with a slower block time to encourage its use as a longer term stakeholder based mechanism (like a stock or bond) vs a currency.

Your initial reaction/thoughts?
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin Better Suited to Replace Stock Markets? on: June 25, 2014, 01:43:02 PM
With the advent of "colorcoins" it seems like we're on the verge of having a credible replacement to just about every stock exchange on the planet.

The Proof-of-Stake model combined with a completely pre-mined coinbase is looking like a solid model for just about any company that wants to issue a security.

IPO's would no longer need underwriters and really only shareholders would benefit from running any kind of mining related software -- if at all.

It seems to me that the fast block times aren't really that beneficial and if you actually slowed it down to say once an hour you might have something that more accurately represents a shareholder ledger.  Since all exchange activity happens "off block" anyway you can let it run as fast as you want -- however once you declare your ownership stake by committing to the chain you'd have to wait for verification.  Not that different from the current "settlement period" after any stock transaction today.

We've been considering filing for a SCOR (Small Company Offering Registration) in Minnesota and then leveraging a blockchain of our own to track the owners instead of listing on a bulletin board.

Your thoughts?

20  Bitcoin / Project Development / doabitofgood.com Launches Small Crowdfunding raise on StartSomeGood.com on: June 12, 2014, 12:58:42 PM
Hey-

A quick shout out to raise awareness for our first crowdfunding raise on StartSomeGood.com

http://startsomegood.com/doabitofgood

We want to bring crypto-mining capabilities to the masses through the use of a simple screen-saver tied to a non-profit or pro-social cause photo album on our servers.  It's creating strong affinity while doing a bit of good for those organizations.

We picked StartSomeGood.com because of the kinds of projects and people they support.  In fact we have been exploring ways to potentially do a joint-venture to bring crypto to their platform.

We already support Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Feathercoin, Givecoin and now CleanWaterCoin and have publicly declared support for providing stable peering nodes for Givecoin and CleanWaterCoin to help boost support for them.

We are constantly looking for pro-social coinbases to add to our system so feel free to comment or ping me with ideas!

Thank you for your time and consideration!  I really appreciate everything I've learned over the past few years from bitcointalk.org and my membership in this community reminds me that it "takes a village to raise an idiot" :-)

Sincerely,

David V Duccini
