Economy / Services / [WTB] Web host for BTC
|
on: November 10, 2013, 10:42:22 AM
|
I'm looking for a web host that accepts BTC payments. My requirements:- 3GB space
- 40GB bandwidth (my estimation is 250 visitors per day, 5MB each)
- PHP, MySQL and so on suitable for a Woocommerce Wordpress site.
- Help with domain registration, SSL certificate.
- Scalability. I might not need the 3/40GB right away - if I could start out cheap and pay more as the requirements grow, that would be great.
If you are a web host, please let me know what you can offer. If you have experience of any web host accepting BTC payments, please share.

I just listed these beauties on Bitmit: Black model White modelThe two models have a slightly different design, but they do the same job: - Touch-free automatic dispenser
- Plays a short melody when the sensor is triggered (can be turned off)
- Infrared sensor
- Powered by 4xAAA batteries (not included)
- 13.5 fl. oz. (400ml) capacity
The melody function is a great way to make sure that kids actually wash their hands with soap after a visit to the bathroom.

Bitcoin / Hardware / Margin price estimation of USB Block Erupter
|
on: June 25, 2013, 01:46:16 PM
|
I've been trying to estimate the margin cost for ASICMINER to produce the USB Block Erupter. Given that the processing unit that is placed on the stick has similar characteristics to Avalons chips, I'm assuming the cost per chip is also similar. Avalon are selling their chips for BTC0,078 per chip, but I don't know what profit margin markup they are using at that. Let's assume 100%. That means the margin price per chip is BTC0,039, ~4 US$. The chip is not the only thing on the stick, but the other components are very cheap. Say $1 for the rest of the components, $1 for the PCB and $1 for the manufacturing process. That's a total of $7 per stick.Thoughts? If you have any other way of estimating the margin cost, please post it in this thread.

Economy / Goods / Bitmit promotion: FREE potato
|
on: May 29, 2013, 04:00:11 PM
|
OK, I'm joking. There's no such thing as a free potato in this thread. However, as I just listed this awesome Potato clock kit on Bitmit, I'm giving one away for FREE! If you want the kit, here's what you gotta do: Make up a joke about potatoes. Post it in this thread. I will select the winner from all submitted jokes. Rules: - You can enter as many jokes as you like, but please be original and come up with your own joke.
- Jokes are limited to a maximum of 16384 characters per joke.
- There will only be one winner.
- I select the winner.
- The winner is selected when 24 hours has passed since the last joke was posted.
- The kit is shipped to the winner free of charge (within reasonable limits, don't be a jerk and request to have the prize shipped to some weird location).
- I have the right to disqualify contestants for any reason. I don't even have to specify a reason.
- I reserve the right to use any of the posted jokes in my promotional material.
By the way, if you wanted to power a Block Erupter USB ASIC miner like this, you would need approximately 7000 large potatoes.

Bitcoin / Hardware / Don't forget: There will probably be further batches from Avalon
|
on: March 24, 2013, 10:31:44 PM
|
If you are considering spending 88BTC on a batch #3 Avalon miner, don't forget that Avalon will probably not quit producing and selling their miners after batch #3. By then, they will have upped their production capacity. They will also be able to sell their miners at a considerably lower price. In fact, they will probably have to lower the price quite a lot in order to sell any large numbers, since mining profitability will drop considerably when all of batch #1 and #2, and most of #3, along with the competing ASIC miners, has been installed.
My guess is that batch #4 will be sold with something like a 50% markup over production costs, which means a couple of hundred dollars. The volume will also be larger, maybe 2500 units?
I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass, but it makes complete sense for Avalon to get what they can out of the market and keep lowering the price of their products in order to do so.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Pricing in Bitcoin dollars
|
on: March 19, 2013, 12:27:05 PM
|
I'd like to discuss a way to advertise products priced in US dollars, payable in bitcoin. In my advertising thus far, I have advertised the price in BTC, but doing that with static banners is very tiresome, as I constantly need to update the advertising material as the BTC value changes.
I think there should be a widespread way to advertise prices in "bitcoin dollars", US dollars payable in bitcoin at the current exchange rate. It could be something like B$ or BTC$.
"Payable in Bitcoin" or "We accept Bitcoin" doesn't quite cut it - Bitcoin is the only way I can accept payment. It also takes up a lot of advertising space.

Economy / Marketplace / Interest check: Take over my business
|
on: March 16, 2013, 01:47:42 PM
|
I've been selling gadgets for BTC over at Bitmit for a while now. Here are my listings on Bitmit. It's fun and all, but it's also a little time consuming. As I also have a regular day job, I think it's time I give a little priority to my family. Therefore I'm not going to continue the BTC business for much longer. Instead of just quitting, I was thinking there might be someone who would like to take over my business and do what I do. What I do is quite simple: 1. Sell stuff on Bitmit 2. Make the suppliers in China deliver directly to the customer. No inventory required!3. Profit! Business has been steady increasing over time since I started. Sales right now are about 1 BTC per day, with a profit margin around 50% (that means you can bank 0.5 BTC per day). I've been spending about an hour per day taking care of business. However, my processes are very manual - if you know your way around a computer you could probably invest some time and put together some kind of software that would significantly decrease the need for manual labor. You could also continue to do it exactly the way I've been doing it. Now, if you think this is something you would want to do, this is what I can give you: - Extensive, easy to follow instructions on how to do what I do, every step of the way. This includes how to work with suppliers, how to select suitable products to sell, how to obtain quality item pictures, what marketing channels to use, etc.
- My product catalog with a few hundred items, including quality pictures, descriptions and so on, in a format that's easy to import into Bitmit.
- Supplier contacts for the above mentioned items, including specific item numbers. The suppliers of course have their own catalogs with tens of thousands of items. If you want to expand the business by adding more items, you could easily do so.
- My recommendation to current customers that you have taken over the business. Many of my customers are repeat customers.
- E-mail coaching to get you started.
- Tips and tricks of the trade.
- Scout's honor promise that I won't take this business up again.
However, I will not give you my user accounts on Bitmit, Bitcointalk or any other such service. I don't believe in that kind of transfer of trust. If you want to get a high number of posts and/or good feedback, you will have to earn it yourself. You will not be taking over my name, just my business model. If you are a customer of mine right now, you don't need to worry. As I said, I won't be giving up my Bitmit or forum account, and I won't abandon you. I will go through with every current order.

Economy / Speculation / We're breaking $35 - new all time high
|
on: March 04, 2013, 09:13:40 AM
|
There's lots of talk ot "the bubble bursting" and "exchange rate going down" and "crash" and whatever.
I'd like to point out that we are seeing a new all time high right now, as the price of 1 BTC is breaking through 35 USD.
