Economy / Service Discussion / How secure is Blockchain.info
on: September 16, 2012, 01:58:46 PM
I know this has been discussed in the official post but I wanted to ask in a separate thread for clarity.
Just how secure is blockchain.info with my private keys?
From what I can gather, your info is all AES encrypted however its ultimately stored centrally on the blockchan.info server. This makes me feel a little uncomfortable.
Whats stopping someone with access to the server performing some kind of man in the middle attack?

Economy / Web Wallets / blockchain.info wallet - how to track my wallet
on: September 08, 2012, 08:17:59 AM
I just signed up to the blockchain.info wallet and I'm wondering how to use it to track the balance from my bitcoin-qt client. I've been adding all of the receive addresses but it does not show a correct balance. Am I doing something wrong? Is there supposed to be a specific address from my wallet that I use to add on blockchain.info?
Do I have to send the entire balance to myself so it shows as a new transaction?

Economy / Service Announcements / iPhone wallet now available on the official App Store
on: September 03, 2012, 07:33:45 AM
For those who have been waiting, the blockchain app is now back on the Official App store (no workaround or jailbreak required). With a blockchain.info account you can manage transactions on your iPhone as per the website. Without an account it will just display unconfirmed network transactions. https://blockchain.info/wallet/iphone-appI thought I'd create an updated post about this after I met with Roger from Memorydealers a few days ago. Besides a post buried in the service discussion subforum, there doesn't seem to be much of an announcement or discussion about this.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Streaming market data from Intersango
on: August 19, 2012, 04:13:25 AM
I've been trying to connect to Intersango's streaming market data feed for a while now but haven't had much luck. Does anyone have any idea or code they could share to do so? From their site here: https://intersango.com/api.phpStreaming Market Data: Is available as line delimited json messages on intersango.com port 1337.When using the stream_socket_client() function in PHP, all I get is 'Connection refused'. Using WSSH I get the same thing.

Other / Meta / Greek subforum in the 'Local' section
on: May 21, 2012, 03:19:48 AM
With all the drama happening in Greece at the moment, a Greek subforum would help promote the bitcoin cause in a good way.
Background: With the eurozone countrys wanting Greece out, the local people will have little choice about the fact that their new currency will be diluted and worth little. Let the Greeks talk about what they can do about converting their euro's (while they still have them) to a currency no government can dilute. Answer: Bitcoin.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Virwox and Paypal
on: May 17, 2012, 12:52:26 AM
My understanding is that Paypal is not accepted as payment for a virtual currency, mainly because of reversals but partially as it is against their policy.
How does Virwox get away with using paypal as a payment gateway for Linden dollars then?
Also, how long after a transaction is complete, does it take for a payment to become non-reversible?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Charitable bitcoin miner

The concept of using idle computer to generate income isn't a new idea. It can however lead to some great PR for bitcoin. For any developers looking for a new project, why not deliver a simple executable which will let people mine for charity: http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-17995888A trustworthy party can manage the pool with its pre-programmed variables and perform the donations on an up-to-date website which people can track their portion of the donations to date.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Promoting bitcoin
on: April 30, 2012, 06:51:55 AM
The success of bitcoin is dependent on more widespread adoption. Word will spread over time but what we are really after is a critical mass whereby bitcoin discussion will go viral and self-promote through its use. Thinking along the lines of marketing, I remember Firefox did a promotional piece in its glory days where donators gave money towards a full page spread in the New York Times. In return you got your name printed on the advert in a tiny font: http://binarybonsai.com/blog/the-new-york-times-firefox-adIts a smart piece of marketing and for bitcoin, one which I would be happy to take part in. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on the marketing of bitcoin and if anyone works in marketing, would you be willing to organise something like this? If there is enough interest, we can get a crowd funded campaign like this up and running.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Suggestion - API subforum
on: March 04, 2012, 11:56:47 PM
There are a lot of posts related to the use of API's. Troubleshooting, announcements, connectivity and general development using API's. As a suggestion, how about creating a subforum under Technical Support called API's?
Not sure if this is the right place for this kind of request. For the rest of the forum community, if you have ever used any API, would you find an API subforum useful?

Economy / Economics / How big is Bitcoin's presence in China?
on: February 27, 2012, 11:57:41 PM
With the US deficit not shrinking any time soon, China looks like its going to becoming one of the world's most important economies. How big is bitcoin in China?
The volume pie chart on Bitcoincharts doesnt show CNY, but given that the country has heaps of rich folk now... this cant be right!?
With China having roots in communism and the state wanting to control everything, bitcoin in theory (being both anonymous and decentralized) would be very valuable to them.

Bitcoin / Project Development / [Request] CryptoXChange fee via API
on: February 15, 2012, 05:30:25 PM
I'd like to see the current fee through the API. I've noticed that you have been changing the fee a lot recently with a 0% promotion currently running, there is however no API call to retrieve the fee so when performing various calculations/trading via the API, my figures will not reflect what the true buy/sell cost will be... this is unless I have logged onto your website.
Thanks

Economy / Trading Discussion / Intersango - Withdraw BTC through API
on: February 03, 2012, 11:40:49 PM
Has anyone implemented this? I was hoping to although I'm a little confused: https://bitcoinconsultancy.com/wiki/Intersango/APIThe data-spec table shows: createBitcoinWithdrawalRequest.php - Create bitcoin withdrawal request. However at the bottom of the page it says: Withdrawing and Depositing Withdrawing and depositing BTC is not possible using the official API, but it is possible by impersonating a web-browser. See Ad-hoc transfers Can someone clarify?
