1  Local / Altcoins (Français) / [Namecoin] Campagne de financement pour le .bit/tor/i2p - FreeSpeechMe plugin on: February 05, 2014, 03:11:57 PM
URL de la campagne de financement :
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/freespeechme-the-anti-censorship-anti-hijacking-open-source-dot-bit-plug-in

6  Other / Off-topic / How to make a good deed without spending a cent ? on: September 03, 2012, 06:15:09 PM
So, you want to donate some money to charity but you don't want to spend a cent ?
Good! I've what you need Smiley

For those who don't know me, I'm the guy which manages Namecoin.
And I'm here to present you the CharityAd project.

The concept is simple :
- you install a plugin in your browser
- it replaces standard ads you are viewing by ads managed by CharityAd
- it generates money
- CharityAd distributes the collected money to charity

All the stats are available on the Stats page because we would like to be as transparent as possible. We think it is important in such a project.

The project has started around 10 days ago and we already made our first donation, to the Red Cross.

The plugin is only available for Firefox, but a Chrome plugin is in progress.

So, will you leave bitcoin some minutes and install this plugin ? :p
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] Namecoin DNS server (and more) with NMControl on: July 10, 2012, 08:52:00 PM
Here is the first release of NMControl 0.4 !

Description

nmcontrol is a python software that will provide services on top of namecoin like DNS, proxy, name (domain, alias, etc) registration and renewal.
It is composed of a daemon (nmcontrol) that communicates with namecoin and provide services, and a GUI (nmcontrol-gui) that manages the daemon.

It will allow you to :
- create domains, alias and auto renew them
- listen for dns requests
- listen for socks requests
- publish your services (in a namecoin record/namespace, services could announce themselves in the blockchain)
- etc

It is multi-threaded and designed with plugins, to enable each person to activate only what they need and what they want to share (for example, you will be able to share your DNS server with other people if you want).
Aim of this software is to allow people to easily build things/services on top of namecoin.

Current version supports :
- a flexible plugin system
- an rpc client/server to manage commands
- communication with namecoin

TODO :
- a GUI [edit: to manage domains, alias, dns server, etc, but not your coins. Coins can be managed with a bitcoin GUI using RPC]
- make required modifications for it to work on windows and mac
- advanced services like DNS and proxies
- automatic configuration of the OS
- provide binaries and install software

Links :
- sources
- archives
- README
- INSTALL
- TODO

Now that the base structure is done, I can focus on advanced services Smiley
Which one would you want first :
- windows support ?
- dns server
- name auto-renew ?
- gui ?
- other ?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin aliases with Namecoin ID : Send bitcoins to an alias on: June 01, 2012, 11:44:00 AM
Here is a new proposal for the Bitcoin alias system :
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_0015#Namecoin_ID

You enter an alias to send bitcoin to.
Example of alias :
Code:
$ namecoind name_show id/khal
{
  "bitcoin" : "N15mJsVMHNtVDedDnD8vu82M5hCfn3nJWq"
}

It is based on Namecoin and the identity namespace
Aim of this namespace is to store email address, bitcoin address, namecoin address, gpg keys, etc. All that is related to an online and public identity.
Each application has its own space, so Bitcoin will store its data in the "bitcoin" space.

The specification currently allows :
- a single address
- multiple addresses
- addresses with labels
- a secure way to get an address from an http request
- the user to be prompted for some data (a customer id or an order id for example) that a merchant will receive and associate with a bitcoin address

What do you think ?
Do we really need multiple addresses and labels ?
Did i missed some important use case ?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] NamecoinToBind v3.0.5 : run a .bit DNS server ! on: May 27, 2012, 10:58:31 PM
NamecoinToBind v3.0.5

From : https://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=315
Quote
NamecoinToBind is a php script that generates bind zones for .bit domains from the namecoin blockchain

* Improved compatibility with Domain spec V2 (alias and translate)
* Full rewrite of data import
* Uses new namecoin rpc commands (namecoin v3.50 required)
* Reduced RAM usage (5/20 MBs, except on first run to import all domains : 100MB)
* Faster to run (15/20s on first run, 2s else)
* Config file now supports several ip for the authoritative zone (useful with ipv6 for example)

Readme : https://github.com/khalahan/NamecoinToBind/blob/master/README
Download : https://github.com/khalahan/NamecoinToBind/zipball/v3.0.5
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Namecoin v3.50 : faster & better on: May 26, 2012, 08:29:34 PM
A new version of namecoin is available ! Smiley

Project : http://dot-bit.org/
Files : http://dot-bit.org/files/

Improved performances :

* New index for names, created at first startup
* Faster name_scan (3x)
* Faster name_list (11x !)

New rpc commands :

* sendtoname : sendtoname <namecoinname> <amount> [comment] [comment-to]
- allow you to send namecoin to last owner of a name

* name_show : name_show <name>
- show only one name (same as name_scan "xx" 1) or nothing of name is not found

* name_filter : name_filter [regexp] [maxage=36000] [from=0] [nb=0] [stat]
- filter names with regular expressions, height of a name (to get only names from last X blocks), to count names, etc
Examples :
* list all unexpired names
namecoind name_filter

* list all names in the d/ namespace
namecoind name_filter "^d/" 0

* list names modified last 150 blocks
namecoind name_filter "^d/" 150

* count names modified last 150 blocks
namecoind name_filter "^d/" 150 0 0 stat

* list 20 names from number 100
namecoind name_filter "" 0 100 20

Other

* name_scan now only returns the minimum of data (8MB instead of 16MB)
* if index of names (nameindexfull.dat) is deleted, it'll be recreated at startup.
* default rpc port updated to not conflict with bitcoin
* config file renamed to namecoin.conf (it's never too late...). Still works with original name. Same for pid file.

Some really useful changes !
NamecoinToBind will be updated soon to benefit from this.

Check it out !  Tongue
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] A new proxy for Namecoin on: May 24, 2012, 09:02:11 AM
Hi !

A new proxy is available to replace the dead masterpool proxy :
  • ip : 178.32.31.43
  • port : 8888

You can use it with foxyproxy in your browser to view .bit domains :
  • url pattern : *.bit/*
  • Mode : "Use proxies based on their pre-defined patterns and priorities"

See also :
- How to configure foxyproxy
- List of web proxies

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Namecoin Bundle : local namecoin + local proxy for firefox on: October 30, 2011, 02:31:19 PM
Aim of this bundle is to provide an all in one package that people can install to really use the decentralized part of the namecoin DNS system, instead on relying on external DNS or proxy servers.

How to use it :
- Unzip on the desktop (or where you want)
- Launch :
* linux : namecoinBundle.sh (on gnome, select : Launch in a terminal, must stay open, otherwise relaunch)
* windows : namecoin.bat, then nmcSocks.bat (both must stay open, otherwise relaunch)

If you don't have FoxyProxy in Firefox :
- Install FoxyProxy Standard in firefox (Open "Tools" → "Add-ons" and search for "Foxy Proxy Standard", install this extension and restart Firefox)
- Configure FoxyProx : Go to "Tools" → "Foxy Proxy Standard" → "Options", Open "File" → "Import Settings" and select the file "etc/FoxyProxy.xml"

Files :
http://dot-bit.org/files/NamecoinBundleLinux.7z
http://dot-bit.org/files/NamecoinBundleWindows.7z (tested on XP, does it work on win7 too ?)

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [0.1BTC/domain] Register/host .bit domains with bitcoins on: May 31, 2011, 10:56:18 AM
.bit is a decentralized and anonymous top level domain name [read more].

Here is the first website to register .bit domains, directly with bitcoins, without configuration :
http://register.dot-bit.org/

It allows you to :
- register a .bit domain (or not, you can only take the hosting or the redirect)
- redirect it to an url :
=> yourdomain.bit will be redirected to youdomain.otherTLD
- use a web hosting :
=> you will browse directly on yourdomain.bit

Prices :
- new domain : 0.1 BTC, renewal included for 1 year
- redirect : included with a new domain (0.1BTC otherwise)
- web hosting : from 0.1 to 0.5BTC/month

It's still in beta, but functional, so, report me any problem.

TODO :
- allow to transfer domain
- put some text/details

Any comments ?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Donate to dot-bit project on: May 15, 2011, 12:32:48 AM
Dot-Bit project is a decentralized, anonymous and open DNS system based on the namecoin naming system!

The project has set up a page for donations :
http://dot-bit.org/Dot-bit_Project:Site_support

Bitcoin: 1J3EKMfboca3SESWGrQKESsG1MA9yK6vN4

Namecoin: N2pGWAh65TWpWmEFrFssRQkQubbczJSKi9

They will be used for bounties or services that help the project to spread.

There is also a dedicated forum to avoid flooding here :p

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANNOUNCE] Dot-BIT project / Namecoin website on: May 06, 2011, 01:39:39 PM
Just a little news to announce the dot-bit project (dot-bit.org and dot-bit.bit).

Why dot-bit ?
Namecoin.com/org/net are not free. So...

Dot-BIT goal is to spread .bit domains by providing ressources and tools for the developpers and the end users (and avoid to flood the bitcoin forum too much with a derivated project).

You can :
- download the namecoin software,
- register to the development mailing list,
- find active namecoin sellers
- find a list of current dns servers,
- follow the project progress with current and future tasks.

This is a wiki, so you can add your own dns server (like gsan does :p), complete and re-organise it, because there is still much to do (separate end user and developpers in two pages, create a FAQ, detail other tasks, etc).

tld with 1 letter would never be reserved by icann.
Same for .p2p i guess, but without warranty.

Which one do you prefer ?
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Namecoin DNS server for .bit domains on: April 29, 2011, 04:36:00 PM
I've started a dns serveur on 178.32.31.41 which resolves .bit domains.

There is a small web page to list current valid domains (which have set an ip address in the correct json format : use " and not ') :
http://namecoin.bitcoin-contact.org/

To use it, just modify your dns server and add this ip.
Here is a good starting page on how to modify your dns servers (just put my ip instead of the opennic one :p) :
http://wiki.opennicproject.org/ConfiguringYourComputer

Current domains (it will timeout if you don't have added my dns server) :
- bluishcoder.bit
- tester.bit
- toys.bit

If someone want to donate me some namecoins, i'd be gratefull (i generate and generate but i still get nothing...)
19  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / [PULL] Sign and verify message with bitcoin address and public key on: April 24, 2011, 12:45:50 PM
Pull request : https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/183

Adds two rpc commands :
- signmessage <bitcoinaddress> <message>
- verifymessage <pubkey> <sign> <message>

It allows to sign a message with the public key of a bitcoin address you own, to be sure of the identity of the sender.

An json error will be displayed if there was a problem, otherwise, it displays the bitcoin address associated with the public key used to sign the message.

This patch allows you, for example, to send message to your customer and to prove it really comes from you, by using the public and private keys associated with your bitcoin address.

Reviews and comments are welcomed, I don't know if all is used as it should.

This his currently a patch proposed for integration into bitcoin : http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=6186.0
Here is a 64bits binary for linux if you want to test : http://dl.free.fr/vX39kOI7Y (backup your wallet before. You can't test with an empty wallet, because bitcoin will stop after checking the amount)

1. How to add this to your website
2. You have an email and don't own the domain

1. How to add this to your website

Default address for your own domain
Create a file named "bitcoin-address.txt" at the root of your domain and remplace 111... chars with your address :
Code:
{
    "error" : "",
    "label" : "Label of your website, or email address for example",
    "address" : "1111111111111111111111111111111111"
}

Email address for your own domain
Example : mymail1@mydomain.com
Create a file named "bitcoin-address-mymail1.txt" at the root of your domain and remplace 111... chars with your bitcoin address :
Code:
{
    "error" : "",
    "label" : "Your email address or a label",
    "address" : "1111111111111111111111111111111111"
}

Example : mymail2@mydomain.com
Create a file named "bitcoin-address-mymail2.txt" at the root of your domain and remplace 222... chars with your bitcoin address :
Code:
{
    "error" : "",
    "label" : "mymail2@mydomain.com",
    "address" : "2222222222222222222222222222222222"
}

2. You have an email and don't own the domain
Example : mypseudo@gmail.com & address 11111111111111111111111111111
Register your email and bitcoin addresses to http://bitcoin-contact.org/?account and set them public.
Then, give this url to your contacts :
http://bitcoin-contact.org/q/getaddress/mypseudo@gmail.com

You can also register a pseudo on bitcoin-contact and use this directly : mypseudo@bitcoin-contact.org
Note : you can also set the label to "mypseudo@gmail.com" and people who use "mypseudo@bitcoin-contact.org" will receive a contact like that :
- label : mypseudo@gmail.com
- address : 11111111111111111111111111111

If you have configured you domain/email address, I can test it and say you if it works.
If someone is able to compile a windows version, i'll add it at the top of this thread.
