1  Economy / Speculation / Great news everyone! Bitcoin NOT banned in China! on: April 01, 2014, 09:04:49 PM
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/latest/china-clamps-down-on-bitcoin/story-e6frg90f-1226871648275

Quote
One of the people familiar with the latest directive said that the central bank does not intend to ban bitcoin trading in China, and said the move is to "enforce what was already said in the December document." That document had said bitcoin is not a currency with "real meaning" and does not have the same legal status as a currency, but that the public is free to buy and sell bitcoin online provided that they accept the risk.

What's the story you incompetant idiots?
3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / 0.9 Status? on: May 02, 2013, 03:23:11 PM
Does anyone have any word on the current status of the 0.9 release? When we may see a release candidate, what new features it may contain? Just curious.
4  Bitcoin / Legal / Bitcoin status in Canada on: April 26, 2013, 10:38:05 PM
I just wanted to cross post this from an entry I made in the Press forum.

CBC released an article today about bitcoin taxation in Canada: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2013/04/26/business-bitcoin-tax.html?cmp=rss

Are there any Canadian tax lawyers or otherwise knowledgeable individuals here?

If I am interpreting this correctly, than what it is saying is that if I buy $1000 worth of bitcoins and immediately buy a product with them, I am subject to the "barter" tax provision and I owe income tax on $1000, whereas if I used the dollars I would owe nothing, only the merchant would be required to claim the "income". Is that right? That would completely cripple a functioning bitcoin economy in Canada.

8  Economy / Speculation / Crash post-mortem on: April 10, 2013, 08:45:29 PM
What is going on with Mt. Gox today? Their API is not relaying reliable information at the moment. Was any of the data going to the feeds today reliable? Did someone exploit a weakness in their API?

Can we all agree at least that we need to stop using Gox? I pulled my funds out of there a few months back, and I am happy that I did. I will not be using them again.

10  Economy / Service Discussion / Virtex down? on: March 23, 2013, 09:25:20 PM
What's up with Virtex? Their site is slow and I can't get into their trading engine. Anyone else having trouble today?
11  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Roadmap to 1.0? on: June 20, 2012, 10:14:31 PM
I'm just curious if there is a roadmap anywhere to version 1.0? What are the "must-have" features for a 1.0 release? Are we likely to see a 1.0 release within the next year? Two? More? I assume the next major release will be 0.7, we'll be running out of 0.x headroom pretty soon Smiley
12  Economy / Speculation / What's going on over at Virtex? on: May 25, 2012, 12:41:25 PM
Virtex has been trading under $5 since about mid-March and suddenly today the price has rocketed to a high of almost $5.50 with near-record setting volume and the day is still fresh.  Anyone have any idea why?
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tiny Mt. Gox Ticker on: February 16, 2012, 03:00:52 PM
Hey everyone,

I don't know if something like this exists elsewhere but I have been looking for a really small BTC price ticker that I can access from my phone that requires only the minimum amount of bandwidth. I do not have a fast connection on my phone and my monthly data usage is very small, so I created my own really quickly and put it up here for anyone else who wants to use it: http://tinybtc.net16.net/

There is one url option, if you append ?w=xxx to the url you can specify the width of the 24-hour status bar (ie. http://tinybtc.net16.net?w=200) . The default is 70 (to fit my Blackberry screen optimally Smiley)
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BIP 16/17 poll on: January 28, 2012, 11:04:15 PM
I have been casually following the BIP 16/17 issue and I thought that maybe we could use a poll to help assess where the rest of us non-developers and non-voters stand.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / According to TechCrunch - We FAIL on: January 20, 2012, 03:17:41 AM
This is pretty priceless, Bitcoin shows what, like a 1500% increase in value from the beginning of 2011 to the end, and we get classified as a failed business model in 2011. Nice!

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Ruxum on: January 12, 2012, 02:55:15 PM
What happened to Ruxum? Are they seeing any volume these days? Once upon a time I had high hopes for them and now it seems likely that they will just disappear one of these days. I wonder how much money and BTC are kept there right now?
