8  Bitcoin / Important Announcements / SEC Charges Texas Man With Running Bitcoin-Denominated Ponzi Scheme on: July 23, 2013, 05:22:55 PM

2013-132 Washington D.C., July 23, 2013 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a Texas man and his company with defrauding investors in a Ponzi scheme involving Bitcoin, a virtual currency traded on online exchanges for conventional currencies like the U.S. dollar or used to purchase goods or services online.

The SEC alleges that Trendon T. Shavers, who is the founder and operator of Bitcoin Savings and Trust (BTCST), offered and sold Bitcoin-denominated investments through the Internet using the monikers “Pirate” and “pirateat40.”  Shavers raised at least 700,000 Bitcoin in BTCST investments, which amounted to more than $4.5 million based on the average price of Bitcoin in 2011 and 2012 when the investments were offered and sold.  Today the value of 700,000 Bitcoin exceeds $60 million.

10  Bitcoin / Project Development / [FREELANCE] Tutorial to install and mange the Block Erupter USB on: June 20, 2013, 12:39:27 AM
I am looking for candidates to produce a tutorial describing how to use the Block Erupter USB in any computer which supports the available software to mine Bitcoins. The tutorial will be published in the Internet page I made for my recent trade:

The initial plan is to offer support to all buyers which participated in my trade. So the tutorial must:

1. Introduce basic information about Bitcoin mining and ASIC technology.

2. Show how to install all drivers and software available to run the Block Erupter USB in the:
2.1. PC (Windows)
2.2. PC (Linux)
2.3. Apple
2.4. Raspberry PI

3. Explain how to join a pool or how to mine using the Bitcoin client.

4. Conclude the tutorial with a short dissertation about the possible cost and profit generated by the Block Erupter USB.

I will pay 1.5 BTC for the tutorial + 0.5 BTC if additional material is included (slide, video, presentation, diagram, etc.)

To apply for this freelance job just drop a message in the this topic indicating why you are interested to produce the tutorial.

13  Bitcoin / Important Announcements / Block Erupter USB | Group Buy Newsletter on: May 28, 2013, 11:32:06 PM
Original thread: [CLOSED] Block Erupter USB @ 2.10 BTC + parcel -> Shipping to anywhere!

Newsletter #1

Dear Buyer,

The Group Buy have already collected payment for 200 units. An order was placed with ASICMiner on 28th May 2013:

This is the first batch of this Group Buy. All buyers which paid the first 200 units will receive their orders from this batch. I am still waiting for the tracking number from ASICMiner to estimate a reasonable delivery time. I expect to have the first batch ready for redistribution by the of 5th June 2013. The orders are going to be shipped in a fair manner to compensate the chosen delivery method by each buyer.

Second Batch

Once I collect payments to complete 50 units from the remaining pre-orders I will request a second batch from ASICMiner. So it is quite important that all remaining pre-orders are paid as soon as possible to guarantee the delivery of another batch.

The deadline for the second batch is 3rd June 2013 (23:59 UTC).

If the buyers fail to complete payment of at least 50 units by  the deadline, all unpaid pre-orders will be cancelled and the Trader’s Book will be open for new pre-orders.

Alternative Method of Payment

Buyers with difficulty in obtaining Bitcoins to pay their pre-orders may request to pay by wire transfer, international remittance or Paypal invoice. Payments made by wire transfer and international remittance must be done to complete the pre-order’s amount due in GBP shown in the Trader’s Book. Payments made by Paypal invoice are charged 4% over the amount due in GBP.

These alternative methods of payment are only available while there are still outstanding funds in Bitcoins to cover the unpaid pre-orders. Check the Liquidity Exchange of the Trader’s Book to verify if there are enough Bitcoins to cover the amount due on your pre-order.

If you cannot obtain Bitcoins to pay for your pre-order before the deadline, contact me to negotiate an alternative method of payment.

Choosing the Colour of the Device

I cannot guarantee that I will deliver the colours chosen by each buyer because I do not know the colour of  the devices which I am going to receive. Once I receive the first batch I will be able to sort out what colours are available to choose.

The Block Erupter USB will only work with the appropriate software to mine Bitcoins. I am going to produce an Internet page with details on how to use the Block Erupter USB, including instructions for choosing the available softwares, drivers and pools.

Places of Interest

Here are a few places which may be of interest to you and keep you up to date:

14  Economy / Lending / [Repaid] 21.00000000 BTC, 14 days @ 0.5% per day on: May 24, 2013, 03:30:05 AM
Disclaimer: I will only deal with well established forum members.

I am looking for a lender interested to invest in a line of credit for the group buy I am organizing. Few buyers already indicated they had difficulty to buy BTC to pay the ordered products. So I am quite willing to let them pay in GBP or EUR by bank wire transfer. However I have no liquidity at the moment to pay for their orders. The seller will only accept BTC to close a deal for at least 300 Block Erupter USB units.

My proposal for interested lenders:

Amount borrowed: 21.00000000 BTC
Interest rate: 0.5% per day
Repayment term: lump-sum payment after 14 days
Total amount due: 22.47000000 BTC [ 21 (1+14 0.005) ]

With the amount borrowed I am going to be able to provide a short line of credit to the buyers and close the order book as soon as possible to satisfy all parties involved.

15  Economy / Scam Accusations / Do we have a potential fraudster among us? on: May 20, 2013, 07:29:42 PM
I noticed that one potential fraudster got the VIP status while responding serious accusation in the open forum. Traderfortress, a.k.a. Yan Kevin Wang, not just had the funds to acquire a VIP status but as well to pay for deceiving advertisement against the OpenCoin's software, Ripple.

However, Mr Wang refuse to honor his past agreements, such as return the money he got from a programming job which he did not finished.

We shall give a chance to Mr Wang explain what is really going on before to proceed for a precise investigation of his affairs.

So, Mr Wang, what is the deal? Are you going to honor your past agreements or do you prefer to have your profile exposed in the open forum?

We do not really tolerate fraudsters among us, Mr Wang. See what happened with Pirateat40, R+, PatrickHarnett, Cryptoxchange and Matthew N. Wright. They VIP and donator status were not enough for them avoid the consequences of their fraudulent actions.

Know the Trading

What are this group buying?

The group are preparing to buy the Block Erupter USB, which is a small device especially designed to process SHA-256 algorithms.

How are the Block Erupter USB being produced?

The ASICMiner company developed the Block Erupter USB using ASIC technology. The device is basically a circuit board shielded from both sides with a thin sheet of metal. This will not only ensure the electronic components are protected, but will also help dissipate the heat.

So how much processing power could I expect from the Block Erupter USB?

Around 300 million hash per second (Mh/s).

In accordance with the current network difficulty, how many bitcoins can the Block Erupter USB produce per day?

A single unit of the Block Erupter USB at the moment could generate up to 0.01 BTC per day. At the current average exchange rates this is equivalent to almost 1 GBP per day.

When will the Block Erupter USB be available to order?

The first batch of Block Erupter USB is estimated to be ready for order from 20th May 2013.

So how I can participate in the group?

You just have to place a pre-order using this form.

All right! How many Block Erupter USBs can I pre-order?

As many as possible.

Wait... I missed the most important question: how much does each Block Erupter USB cost?

The ASICMiner company is selling each Block Erupter USB for 1.99 BTC. The final price per buyer includes all the incurred costs, such as the trader fee, shipment, tax and customs clearance.

How can I find how much the incurred costs will be?

You can follow the Trader's Book here. If you wish to calculate the shipment costs, use this tool from the Royal Mail.

Will you re-ship the Block Erupter USB to oversea buyers?

Could I personally pick-up my ordered Block Erupter USB with you?

No, all orders will be re-shipped by postal service to ensure the seller delivers the promised product to each buyer as soon as possible in a fair manner.

Does the Block Erupter USB come with any guarantee or warranty?

Yes, ASICMiner guarantees the Block Erupter USB will work as promised for 6 months. If you receive one or more Block Erupter USB not properly working or damaged, you must return them to the seller for replacement.

Are you going to produce an invoice?

Yes, but only regarding the cost incurred to complete the deal between seller and buyer. I am not going to produce an invoice detailing the Block Erupter USB because I am not the seller. I will, however, copy the invoice received from the seller and include it in the buyers’ parcel.

So how, when and where I will pay my for my pre-order?

Once I send you the invoice with a Bitcoin address for payment.

What will happen after I send the payment?

I am going to bid for a batch of 300 or more Block Erupter USB in an auction to be offered by ASICMiner in the Bitcoin forum. Once I win the auction, I will immediately pay the seller with the collected funds from the buyers. Then I will buy the necessary amount of GBP from Mt.Gox to prepare the re-shipment of the Block Erupter USB.

Are you going to keep the accounting of this trade transparent?

Yes, I fully support open and honest trade. You can follow the payment list in the Trader's Book.
17  Bitcoin / Group buys / [CLOSED] Block Erupter USB @ 0.20 BTC + parcel -> Shipping to anywhere! on: May 05, 2013, 04:39:53 AM
Last change: 28th May 2013

The Block Erupter USB series is the second major product of Bitfountain. Its experimental batch (Emerald) has passed all tests. Each one mines at more than 300MH/s, powered only by the USB port.

It serves as a replacement of GPUs for mining hobbyists. Your GPUs could be freed from calculating hashes and resume rendering for you. It is also a perfect gift for getting people knowing about Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining.

The Emerald Batch

This is our experimental batch, and consists only a few number of devices.

This is a picture showing the relative size to the laptop. One with heatsink and one without.

We also tested it on the USB-hub. Seven in a row run over a whole night and are all very stable.

This is the picture showing its size against a coin.

Color: Green
Hashrate: >300MH/s
Mining Protocol: Icarus

This batch will be given away to miners, fans and hardware/software developers made the assignments to us long before. It has some issues working with cgminer (Already Fixed), but the modular python miner works fine. We will fix this in the first mass production batch (Sapphire). It also exceeds a bit of the USB spec of max current (560mA vs <500mA), but in our experiment most devices (PC, laptop) could power it up.

The Sapphire Batch

This is the first batch under production in quantity. Its lead-time is conservatively 15-20 days.

Changes and Improvements
Color of PCB changed to blue
Adding a LED which blinks when a share is found
Fixing the cgminer compatibility problem
Reducing the heat generated and the current to <500mA

This batch will be for group-buy and retailers. The quantity of each order should be more than 300 devices. The price is fixed at 1.99 BTC. We will start the group-buy threads as fixed-price auctions in the auction subforum. When your order is fulfilled you could pay and ask for refund anytime before the tracking number is generated (trackable on internet). After shipping we do not refund, but still guarantee a six-month warranty of free replacement like our blades. However the replacement should also come in batch (10 at one time).

Interested purchasers could contact me even before the group-buy threads are created. Smiley

The first mass production batch (sapphire) has finished its PCB production and assembly today.

It has significant improvements in:

Heat reduction: 560mA (emerald) -> 500-510mA (sapphire).

Stability: We stressed it with 9 Block Erupter USBs in a row without heatsinks heating up each other in a very dense USB hub with 25C without active airflow. No unexpected (non-probabilistic) HW errors ever happen.

Speed: This comes after better stability. Now the hashrate converges to its theoretical value of 336MH/s.

Manual assembly (emerald) -> SMT machine assembly (sapphire)
  Standard heat-sink (emerald) -> heat-sink front-case 2-in-1 logo-ed (sapphire).
  LED added.

Four types of front-case:

All of them are eager to be powered up and hashing!

We had shipped the first 200 USBs today immediately after they are out of the factory. Soon more than 10,000 shiny little stones will be distributed international and quietly erupt blocks.

This is the information thread of sales for our Block Erupter USB sticks.

The specs of our products could be found here:

The USB devices are priced at 1.99BTC each. The minimum purchasing amount is 50 sticks. We reduced the bottom-line quantity because we would like to see them in people's hands as soon as possible, since the expected difficulty rise continues to happen.

One extra stick for every 50 sticks will be provided with the package for redundancy. We will do a 6-month warranty for broken USB devices that exceeds the number. For example, if the buyer bought 50, we will ship 51. If three of them breaks she/he will need to send all three back and we will replace with two new ones. And we would like to emphasize that this policy is merely to reduce the time wasted on international delivery, and by no means an incentive to downgrade our internal quality requirements.

Another 1.7% extra sticks (rounded-up) will be provided to purchasers placing orders larger than 300 at once. They serve as discounts instead of redundancy.

Here is the service (shipping) priority order:

1) Existing groupbuy organizers and resellers on or contacted us before the thread is created.
2) Purchasers with quantity of 300 or more.
3) Rest purchasers.

Also, if you have really large (>1000) order requests, or want to be a mid-term or long-term distributor of our devices, please get contacted to us to make detailed deals.

To place an order, please send mail about your name, postal address, zip code and telephone number to We will provide you with your payment address.

A proposta, enviada em janeiro à Casa Civil e prevista para chegar ao Congresso nas próximas semanas, cria o Conselho Nacional de Proteção de Dados. 20  Local / Português (Portuguese) / [Brasil] Sobre a nova lei de cibercrimes on: April 06, 2013, 02:44:07 AM
