DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit man was tied up, tortured and had his ear cut off. Police say that man was breeding dogs under terrible conditions, and was possibly training them for dog fighting.

FOX 2 counted at least 16 pit bulls that were emaciated and living outside and in filth. That is in addition to the more than a dozen dogs taken from the basement of the home.

The 52-year-old dog breeder was feeding his dogs at one of his Detroit properties on Mackay when he was confronted by three armed men wearing ninja masks. His family says he was forced into the home. They tied him and his two tenants up, then proceeded to torture the dog breeder and demand money.

"My cousin's not a small man, you know what I'm saying. They knew what they were doing," says Marty Johnson, the victim's cousin. "They tied him up; they beat him up pretty bad; broke ribs; broke fingers; stabbed him with ice pics; cut his ear off. It was just messed up."

Police sources tell FOX 2's Taryn Asher they believe the dog breeder was targeted because of his sophisticated and expensive blue pit breeding operation, which they believe is connected to dog fighting.

Animal Control removed several dogs from the basement of the home and were on their way back to take the 16 pit bulls FOX 2 saw tied up and living in the backyard.

The attack was personal and possibly in retaliation.

"He has wife; he has family; he has kids," says Johnson. "They made an accusation, talking about, 'If we catch your wife and daughter, we are raping them. We're going to do this, we're going to do that.' I mean, c'mon."

The masked suspects took the victim's ear and his minivan.

What is going on with this case and what is it about this woman? The acting Harris County sheriff says he has never seen anything like this and today a third deputy has been fired for having sexual relations - with not only a witness, but the woman who was the supposed mistress of the slain deputy, Darren Goforth:

One scandal after another and Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman acknowledges it without hesitation.

Since the August shooting death of Deputy Darren Goforth allegedly by Shannon Miles, it has been revealed that the deputy had a mistress.

But it didn't end there. Investigator Craig Clopton and deputy Marc DeLeon were both fired for sleeping with that woman before and after Goforth's death.

Now, Sheriff Hickman says there is a third deputy under investigation for inappropriate contact with the woman who's identity we are not releasing.

Sheriff Hickman has never seen anything like this in his 45 year career, even though he took over the job less than a year ago, He says the buck stops with him.

Last week the Sheriff instituted a new policy prohibiting employees from engaging in sex with people involved in active investigations.

Hickman says he can't guarantee there won't be more deputies caught in this sex scandal.

Shannon Miles, charged with capital murder in the August 2015 shooting death of Deputy Darren Goforth, sits in a Harris County Jail cell and will remain there until at least Monday. Senator John Whitmire had pulled some strings to expedite his transfer to a state mental hospital to have his competency restored. Anthony Osso, attorney for Miles, filed a motion to block that move.
"'The more information we can provide this time to Vernon State Hospital, the better position they will be in to treat him and restore his competency," says Osso.

Meanwhile, the Harris County Sheriff's Office internal affairs division terminated two-year veteran Deputy Jason Goodrich for having inappropriate communication with a key witness in the case, identified as Deputy Goforth's alleged mistress. Deputy Goodrich has the right to appeal the termination and that process is pending, according to a statement released by the sheriff's office,

Earlier in the week, the sheriff's office was forced to fire Deputy Marc DeLeon for lying about having an inappropriate relations ship with...you guessed it, the same woman.

Shortly after Goforth's murder, Sheriff Hickman terminated Sgt. Craig Clopton for having an inappropriate relationship with that same woman.

Because of all these rapid fire developments, Osso says he need more time to investigate and gather information. and rushing Miles to a mental hospital is more about playing politics with the case.

"I think he injected politics into justice is a better way of putting it," adds Osso.

Senator Whitmire says he stands by his actions. He thinks it's in everyone's best interest to get Miles out of the Harris County jail and into a mental hospital.

These are among the questions facing those responsible for the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade, Baton Rouge's signature bacchanal event, after controversial floats for a second consecutive year sparked outrage and community-wide debate.

Jokes about race were the focus of ire this year, especially those poking fun at the "Black Lives Movement" with "Pink Lives Matter" slogans — a reference to the parade's pink flamingo mascot. The side of one float had a drawing of a flamingo, with an "I can't breathe" sign around its neck, being beaten with a police baton. Several other floats were decked out with confederate flags, and one had a joke about "Freddie Gray Goose," a reference to the African American whose 2015 death after being arrested sparked violent protests in Baltimore

Doug Cossman, a board member for the group that oversees the parade, told the Baton Rouge Advocate he's sorry if anyone was offended but "we're not about to start censoring anybody's free speech rights."

OKLAHOMA CITY – One man has been arrested after two bodies were discovered inside a home daycare in Oklahoma City.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers were called by neighbors to check on the welfare of a couple who lived in a home near N.W. 122nd St. and May Ave.

When police arrived, they found 20-year-old Quinton Dashawn Laster outside of the home.

As they made their way inside, they found the bodies of 78-year-old James Earl Reed and 59-year-old Sharon Reed.

According to officials with the Oklahoma City Police Department, the victims had been shot and decapitated.

 
Authorities said they discovered three small children in a covered garage.

Fortunately, the children were not harmed and were later reunited with their families.

"Luckily, they weren't injured in any way, shape or form," said Sgt. Ashley Peters with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Officials said Laster is the grandson of Sharon.

He was arrested on two complaints of first-degree murder.

Mr Josovic was ambushed by three men who 'pounced' on him as he left a patient's house and stole they keys to his car, which is believed to have been purchased privately and is needed in case of emergency after care.

Religious circumcision is largely unregulated in the UK - but medical professionals who have botched private operations have faced sanctions from the GMC.

When the picture of the stolen car went viral online, many social media users questioned why a private circumcision surgeon has an ambulance complete with emergency vehicle markings and flashing lights.
A CQC spokesman said: 'A person who is not a healthcare professional who drives a vehicle in which, or from which, he or she undertakes circumcision purely for religious reasons, is not classed as a 'regulated activity', which would mean that they would not need to be registered with CQC.
He added: 'However, were the circumcisions to being performed on medical grounds or were the person to use the 'ambulance' to transport people to hospital who require treatment, then the service would probably be classed as the regulated activity of 'transport services triage and medical advice provided remotely', in which case it would need to be registered with CQC.'

Scotland Yard confirmed they were investigating the theft and said no arrests have been made.

First rule of the fight app — don't talk about the fight app.

"Rumblr," a pending app idea, is pitching itself as Tinder, but for brawling. Like the dating app, Rumblr users would meet strangers, but instead of hooking up, they'd be swinging right hooks.

As bizarre as it sounds, the app's creator claims it's "100% serious," and not a "Fight Club"-style hallucination.

"We have raised relatively substantial funding from private American investors and the app is fully developed," the Rumblr team told the Daily News in an email.

The beta for the fighting app will be launched on Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. EST, the team said.

"Rumblr is an app for recreational fighters to find, meet and fight other brawl enthusiasts nearby," according the app's website. It encourages users to insult their matched opponents with this pro-tip: "tell your match what you don't like about their picture."

The fight's location and time is also publicly broadcasted so other users can come and watch the melee, according to the website.

The app comes with a chat feature to talk trash and an interactive map, for users to find fights happening near them. It also has a filter system, with "RumblrHER" to find women fighting, and "RumblrGROUP" for crew brawls.

Fighters can also set up a profile for themselves, where they describe their age, height, weight, skill level and list their wins and losses.

The app is not available yet, but the website said it's "coming soon on the App Store." The team was directly working with the iOS store to hash out legal issues preventing Rumblr's approval, they told the Daily News.

A sign-up sheet for early access was available, with beta invites being offered to the first 2,000 people who registered. More than 78,000 people have signed up for beta access, an email sent out to the lucky early-bird brawlers showed. The email also claimed to be giving away ten pairs of golden brass knuckles to ten people who tweet about the app.

The app's team operates out of a shared office space in SoHo, according to its website.

The owner of a Central Florida gun shop that recently declared itself a “Muslim-free zone” announced that he is teaming up with another Floridian, George Zimmerman, to raise funds for both of their legal bills by selling prints of Zimmerman’s painting of a Confederate flag.

In a newly posted 10-minute “mini-documentary” about the burgeoning friendship between Zimmerman and Florida Gun Supply owner Andy Hallinan, the pair discussed how they believe “the media twists the truth” about them and argued that the Confederate flag must be defended by Americans against a “cultural cleansing” campaign waged by the media and the political elite.

Then, the pair announced that they are selling a series of prints of Zimmerman’s Confederate flag painting, which includes the inscription, “The 2nd protects our 1st.” Zimmerman described the inscription as a “double entendre.”

“I was painting the American flag when I heard of you getting sued by CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations), and I decided that I would do for you what the American people did for me,” Zimmerman told Hallinan, in reference to his own fundraising campaign for a legal defense fund. In 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder charges for the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The prints are going for about $50 each, and Zimmerman and Hallinan have promised to give the original painting away to one of the people who purchase a print. Most of the proceeds will be split between Zimmerman and Hallinan to use for legal bills and living expenses; an unspecified portion will go to the Boys and Girls Club.

“We’ll see what the media does with this one,” Hallinan said at the end of the video.

His gun shop is facing a federal lawsuit from the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, following Hallinan’s July announcement that his gun store was becoming a “Muslim-free zone.” He noted then that he “will not arm and train those who wish to do harm to my fellow patriots.” In doing so, Hallinan “singled out Muslims as a group of people that it intends to treat differently,” CAIR’s complaint alleges.


The CAIR chapter has asked the U.S. District Court in Southern Florida for an injunction, which would prohibit Hallinan’s shop from “discriminating against Muslims.” CAIR also asked the judge to restrain the Florida Gun Supply “from instituting any policies or practices that discriminate or segregate people on the basis of religion, along with attorney’s fees and costs.”

A giant explosion rocked the Chinese city of Tianjin, creating a huge mushroom cloud and causing a quake that could be felt up to 6 miles away, People's Daily China reported.

The explosion was reportedly caused by explosive material in a container at a terminal in Binhai Dist, according to People's Daily. The Hong Kong-based CCTV has reported the explosion occurred at a hazardous goods depot.

Chinese social media site SinaWeibo.com has posted apparent photos of the aftermath. 

The explosion appears to have destroyed large parts of the city, NBC affiliate KSNV News reported.

The number of casualties and injuries is unknown, but a producer for CCTV America says he witnessed some casualties on video.

An apparent video shows the explosion was so powerful, it knocked over a camera a good distance away.

A group that says it is affiliated with the hacktivist collective known as Anonymous has announced a national Day of Rage in support of Sandra Bland, the 28-year-old Chicago-area woman who died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody in Texas. The rally, which is also called #opSandraBland, is going to be held this Saturday, including in downtown Fort Lauderdale.


Bland was arrested on July 10 following a traffic violation in Waller County, Texas. Three days later, she was found dead in her cell. Officials say she used a plastic bag to hang herself in her jail cell.

Bland's death has caused national outrage, with many pointing to her death as another case of an African-American dying at the hands of police brutality. The officer who arrested Bland, Brian Encinia, had received an evaluation that said he acted unprofessionally during a separate incident in 2014. During the traffic stop, Bland allegedly kicked Encinia, and the officer is seen on the Dashcam video holding a stun gun and telling Bland, "I'll light you up."

But Bland's death has been met with scrutiny by some. Anonymous has raised questions about a conspiracy to cover up the fact that Bland might have been murdered while in custody,

"We, not as Anonymous but as citizens of the United States, are tired of the cycle of murders and coverups made by police departments across the nation," the group's webpage reads. "We demand that each police chief at each protesting city to come out to the crowds and renew their pledge to protect the people they serve."


The group is also calling for the arrest of Encinia, as well as the resignation of the Waller County district attorney and the Waller County sheriff.

“If you do not take Brian Encinia into custody, we will come after all of you,” the website says. “All your secrets will be leaked. You will all be vulnerable. We all know where you live.”

On Monday, a report surfaced saying Anonymous had hacked the Waller County Sheriff’s Department and leaked information, including salaries, addresses, and telephone numbers of the deputies they say were involved in the Bland murder cover-up. While news of the hack and leaks have not been reported elsewhere, a video claiming to be from Anonymous surfaced on YouTube claiming that Waller County Sheriff's Department had been hacked. The leaked info was reportedly uploaded on Pastebin but has since apparently been removed.

According to this flier making the rounds on social media, the Day of Rage will be happening in front of the federal courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Saturday at 11 a.m.


"We, Anonymous, are calling on the citizens of the United States to commit to a day of rage on August 8th for Sandra Bland and all who have been murdered at the hands of ruthless law enforcement officials who know no honor," the group announced. "Cities around the United States will rise up in unison and call for Sandra Bland’s justice."

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Bland's family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Encinia and other officials in the Waller County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say Wakefield killed Trina Heisch, 49, and their two dogs and stashed the bodies in a closet. He then gouged out one of his own eyes and cut off his left hand at the forearm.

The grisly scene was discovered July 25 by a neighbor who went to check on Heisch and said Wakefield came to the door naked, covered in blood.

Wakefield spent 10 years in a state mental hospital after stabbing a relative in 2003. He was found "guilty, except insane" on charges of attempted second-degree murder in the attack, a verdict that spared him prison time.

In November 2014, a state psychiatric board issued an order for county prosecutors to try to extend his stay. The board's chairwoman has said the panel did everything it could in the case to ensure community safety.

The Maricopa County attorney's office acknowledged earlier this week that it was unsuccessful.

"Evidentiary issues precluded us from proceeding with the civil commitment process," said spokesman Jerry Cobb, declining to elaborate because the case is under seal.

Wakefield was approved for release 10 months ago by the psychiatric review board based on a belief that his mental health disease was in remission and that he wasn't dangerous if he lived in a residential treatment program.

Heisch also had a history of mental illness. A judge found her to be "guilty, except insane" on charges of attempted second-degree murder in the stabbing of her 15-year-old son while he was sleeping in January 2000. She was ordered to spend 10 years in the state hospital and was eventually released.

It was not clear what specific mental illness either has suffered from.

A massive Burmese python large enough to ingest deer and alligators was captured by a permitted python researcher in the Everglades National Park in Florida recently, CBS Miami reported Tuesday.

The python, found along a tram road at Shark Valley on July 9, measured a whooping 18 feet, 3 inches and was only five inches shy of the largest snake ever captured in Florida. An 18-foot, 8-inch Burmese Python was caught in Miami-Dade in 2013.

Park officials told CBS that the best news about this capture is that its removal from the wild will help protect the diverse wildlife in Everglades National Park. It’s believed to be the second-largest snake taken in Florida.

After its capture, National Park Service and U.S. Geological Survey interns who work on invasive species control projects were allowed to handle the snake to give them confidence and experience in handling Burmese pythons.

Everglades National Park spokeswoman Linda Friar told CBS that the snake was eventually humanely euthanized.

The snake was found to be a female that had not reproduced this season, and its stomach was empty.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a Burmese Python Removal Program designed to control the population of the invasive snake, which was first sighted in South Florida in the 1980s. The species was officially recognized as a reproducing population in 2000 and since then sightings have grown exponentially.

Cecil the lion – the most famous creature in one of Zimbabwe's national parks – was killed by an American hunter who has boasted about shooting a menagerie of animals with his bow and arrow, The Telegraph can reveal.
Walter James Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, is believed to have paid £35,000 to shoot and kill the much-loved lion with a bow and arrow. The animal was shot on July 1 in Hwange National Park. Two independent sources have confirmed the hunter's identity to the paper, which has also seen a copy of the relevant hunting permit.

...“What he’ll tell you is that he had the proper legal permits and he had hired several professional guides, so he’s not denying that he may be the person who shot this lion. He is a big-game hunter; he hunts the world over.”
During the hunt – which the organisers later admitted was badly carried out – it was alleged that Cecil was lured at night about half a mile out of the national park using bait, and then shot with a bow and arrow. The next day he was found wounded by the hunters and killed, before being beheaded and skinned.

All trading on the New York Stock Exchange is halted Wednesday for unknown technical reasons – heaping yet another worry onto investors already rattled by global economic concerns.

Internal technical issues are being blamed for NYSE trading to shut down at 11:32 a.m. ET. The shutdown is also affecting the NYSE MKT exchange, a market for small companies.

Such outages are extremely rare in U.S. markets – but the halt brings up memories of the August 2013 “Flash Freeze” when trading on the Nasdaq was halted for hours. The NYSE is saying the problem is due to a problem with NYSE systems – not any sort of external attack.

Traders on the NYSE floor were standing around looking at blank trading terminals where no bid or offers were being exchanged. Trading in NYSE-listed stocks was still occurring on other exchanges, including the Nasdaq.

In a statement, the NYSE says: “We’re currently experiencing a technical issue that we’re working to resolve as quickly as possible. We will be providing further updates as soon as we can, and are doing our utmost to produce a swift resolution, communicate thoroughly and transparently, and ensure a timely and orderly market re-open.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not have an official statement about the computer outages. However, the agency said there was no immediate indication of a coordinated cyberattack. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Mary Jo White, says in a statement, “We are in contact with NYSE and are closely monitoring the situation and trading in NYSE-listed stocks. While NYSE is working to resolve the situation, NYSE and NYSE MKT stocks continue to trade normally through other trading venues.”

FBI agents raided iconic Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s Indiana home amid a child porn investigation Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was detained outside of his Zionsville house as a special taskforce removed electronics from the property and took them to a mobile forensics van parked in his driveway, WTHR reported.

Fogle's wife and kids left just after the 6:30 a.m. raid began, local media reported.

He was not immediately arrested.

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Former Major League Baseball player, Darryl Hamilton was killed in a murder-suicide in Pearland. Pearland Police discovered the bodies of a man and woman inside a home on Island Breeze St Sunday afternoon after responding to a 911 call. Investigators believe the woman, 44-year-old Monica Jordan shot 50 year-old Hamilton several times before taking her own life. They were the parents of a 14-month-old child who was in the home, but not harmed. Neighbors say Jordan has lived in the home for a few years now with 2 other kids from a previous marriage. Investigators have not said what led up to or may have caused the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

Hamilton played 13 years in the MLB with a number of teams including the Brewers, Rangers and Mets. He was most recently an analyst with the MLB Network.

Two DNA matches have abruptly shifted police focus west -- to Owls Head, New York -- as the frantic search for escaped convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat continues.

Authorities are investigating whether the inmates stayed at a hunting cabin in Owls Head after positive DNA samples were confirmed from both suspects from some kind of food found at the campsite, an official briefed on the search confirmed to ABC News.

...A witness called police saying she spotted two men who fit the description of Matt and Sweat on a railroad line along Route 20 in Friendship near the Pennsylvania border Saturday at 1:16 p.m., state police Major Michael Cerretto said at a news conference.

Matt was serving 25 years to life after he was convicted of kidnapping and beating a man to death in 1997. Sweat was serving a life sentence after he was convicted of killing a Broome County sheriff's deputy in 2002.
