4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Threshold to Segwit on: July 28, 2017, 08:32:29 AM
Folks,

Im wondering why the threshold for Segwit activation is now 90 or 95 percent. I thought because of the activation of BIP 91 the threshold will be lowered to 80 percent?

Thanks in advance for an explanation:)
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ETH Proof of Stake Reward? on: July 04, 2017, 10:35:40 AM
Hi guys,

Ive a question on the motivation to lock up your Ether in order to validate the next block.

I understand that in PoW your incentive is to do mining because you can earn the new Bitcoins.

My understanding in Ethereums PoS Casper is that there will be no block reward of new created Ether. Is that correct?

However, the person participating in the PoS will earn the transaction fees which is the motivation to lock up your Ether. Is that correct?

Thanks folks!!

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Store data on the "Blockchain"? on: February 22, 2017, 08:43:03 AM
Guys, I have a business case and I would like to ask the community which solution could help.

Lets say there is a company and they want to store very sensitive personal data but instead to store the data themself, they assign another company to store the data for them. They outsource the storing of the data because if they get hacked, the reputation damage would be too high. Is there a blockchain offering such a service? I was thinking about MaidSafe.

Thanks

15  Other / Off-topic / SHA 256 - 32 or 64 byte hash? on: November 25, 2016, 12:15:17 PM
This is a more technical question regarding a hash:

If I use SHA 256 on this site http://www.xorbin.com/tools/sha256-hash-calculator and I produce a 256-bit (32-byte) hash value. Should the hash value not have 32 digits because it is 32-byte? I calculate 256 digits where 8 digits are 1 byte so I would get 32 digits but I receive a 64 digits hash value.

What do I understand wrong here?

Thx to everyone helping me out!
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mempool as an indicator for increasing tx on: November 25, 2016, 11:36:59 AM
Guys,

would you consider the increasing mempool as an indication that the transactions on bitcoin are increasing or would be the price for a tx a better indication?

Thx for your thoughts
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Rewrite the bitcoin blockchain with 100% hash power on: November 18, 2016, 09:30:00 PM
Guys,

I have seen a graph from Peter Wuille where he is showing how much time you need to rewrite the whole bitcoin blockchain if you would have 100% of the hashing power. For example currently you would need almost 1 year.

What would be the advantage to rewrite the blockchain? Why would someone be interested to rewrite the blockchain?

Thanks to all!
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mining Pools Quote Adam Back on: November 18, 2016, 09:43:50 AM
Guys, Ive find a quote from Adam Back regarding mining pools:

There is also one more factor on mining protocols. So many people use pools because it’s – you know,
it’s a very large hashrate, and so you get low latency. And so long frequencies between winning blocks
and high variance. And such that there is a variance, they use that.

What does he mean with that?

Thx in davance
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 75% / 95% majority hashing power on: November 11, 2016, 05:04:52 PM
Guys,

I noticed that some updates like e.g. version 0.12 where CheckLogTimeVerify has been implemented we only needed 75% majority hashing power to activate it if Im not mistaken. Now for version 0.13.1 with SegWit we need 95%.

Why is it sometimes 75% and sometimes 95%? Who sets this?

Thanks in advance to all Smiley
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Hedge Funds in Bitcoin on: November 09, 2016, 04:07:12 PM
Folks,

Im wondering how hedge funds, private funds, rich family offices etc. which are invested in Bitcoin are actually organized.

Are they just buying Global Bitcoin Investment Trust (GBTC)?
Are they using exchanges or custodians like GDAX, XAPO, BTCC etc. to store the Bitcoins?
Are the storing it on her own with e.g. a hardware wallet like Trezor?

Thx for some thoughts!
