1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Q&A: i0coin and iXcoin on: March 26, 2014, 03:05:49 PM
With i0coin quickly approaching 21 million coins, I thought it would be appropriate to explore the situation between i0 and iX as well as coin value and security with transaction-fee-only rewards. I will keep this thread up-to-date with answers to my own personal questions as well as other questions readers might have. Please pose your question like the format below.

Q: Why is the blockcount of i0coin so much higher than IXcoin?
A: i0coin block rate is 4 times that of iXcoin (10 minutes).

Q: What happened (if anything) to i0coin when it was hard-forked? What happened when it "died" early in its life?
A: I0coin was updated to bitcoin 0.8.x base. It fixed some issues, like the asymmetric diffuculty adjustment, block size limits and BIP16/BIP30 IIRC (see original resurrection thread i0coin.snel.it) It 'died' because the client used too much memory, people (and exchanges) didn't want to run it. It was kept alive by a small group of people until I fixed the memory issue.

Q: What happened to the pre-mined IXcoins?
A: Around 500,000 coins were pre-mined. The original developer claims that 50% of that was spent on bounties. The rest is unknown.

Q: Who now controls the development of these coins?
A: Rsnel is the i0coin developer and FrictionlessCoin is the iXcoin contact (no official developer.)

Q: What unique security concerns exist for these two coins?
A: IXcoin had (has?) asymmetric difficulty adjustment, which allows 51% attackers to produce more blocks than they should be able to. Also: hashrate is available to attackers without opportunity cost, because they can mine bitcoin and attack IXcoin I0coin at the same time. Large pools can do this attack trivially on I0coin since the hashrate is far behind.

Q: What distinguishes a i0 and iX from new, "immature" altcoins?
A: i0/IX have cloned bitcoin functionality and accelerated the rate of coin production using massive SHA256 hashpower. Many other altcoins utilize scrypt and are vulnerable after their "hype" ends when their hashrate drops.

Q: Are these coins compatible with most bitcoin purchasing hardware, atms, etc.?
A: They should be compatible as long as the device/service is utilizing the i0/IX blockchain.

Q: Will pools drop these coins when rewards are tx fee-only?
A:

Q: What compelling reason do pools have to merge mine the coins if transaction fees, coin activity, and coin value are low?
A: iXcoin has been merged mined most of its life. We have not seen a drop off in  mining. Free extras are always nice. Some pools seem to be afraid that the high blockrate of I0coin damages the efficiency of BTC mining, a good implementation of merged mining can't suffer from the high blockrate.

Q: Why is IXCoin currently worth more than I0Coin?
A: There are more I0coin. I0coin is traded in only one exchange. iXcoin has a massive hash rate that dwarfs I0Coin.

13  Economy / Computer hardware / FS: 3x Reference ATI/AMD HD5770 EFI Flashed for Mac Pro on: July 09, 2013, 08:45:12 PM
I have three efi-flashed 5770s. They are left over from a non-paying bidder in this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-ATI-Radeon-HD-5770-1G-Apple-Mac-Pro-Tested-Reference-Video-Card-/200934340706

There is one ATI reference, and two are reference with the long brackets on the back.

Probably not for mining at this point, but good for resale or mac users.

Asking $80 shipped/ea. paypal, bitcoin, dwolla, litecoin, etc. accepted.

15  Economy / Auctions / [auction] 210 BTC of debt on: July 05, 2013, 04:29:59 AM
I have some debt for AUCTION! I've not had time to pursue this debt and it's now up for auction! Debt is owed in BTC however, collection through the courts would result in a judgement in GBP. From what I know, up to 10k GBP can be awarded with very little cost and would not require legal representation.

This auction entitles the winner to the sole rights to this debt. It also entitles you to my cooperation as required to collect the debt. All lenders have been very helpful and I will provide to you what they provided to me if you purchase (PMs, etc.) To a citizen in the U.K., this could be a very good deal. Likewise, to a saavy researcher elsewhere, there is value here. The Chicko debt is a *bonus.* I am also throwing in BTC0.4899 that is owed to me by tealover for a Radeon 5830. He literally may login at anytime, or he may never come back. Details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=224772

Bids will be in USD and can be paid in BTC, LTC, USD (Amazon, Dwolla, Paypal). Other arrangements will be considered, check with me prior to bidding. Amount due will be quoted based on BTC-E at the end of auction.

Auction ends: Thursday, July 11, 11:30 p.m. CST
Total Debt: BTC210.4699
Starting Bid: $10
Minimum Bid Increment: $5

Some selling points:
  • Both DI and Girlfriend are very active on public facebook pages
  • Digital trail is a mile long with activity on a blog, forums, and other misc. gaming sites
  • Very distinct grammar and term usage that could be searched
  • Identity of some family members is known
  • Multiple aliases are known, and he is perhaps still active on these forums under a different name
  • He is relatively conversant and willing to discuss the matter
  • Admins have IP address that could be creatively used to link DI by location and date
  • He owes others including Goat and Giga and dozens for shirts that were not delivered, they may be willing to help
  • He has been mining on his hardware for over a year and may have a stash of bitcoins

Negatives:
  • He is quick to hide behind a british harassment law that he cited, but Iím unsure if it actually applies to criminal debt
  • Claims someone stole his identity to do this
  • I do not have any phone numbers or addresses, but they could be found easily
  • The kid has no real job
  • Family has money, but he was 19 when he perpetrated the crime, so unsure of liability

18  Economy / Lending / [wanted] USD loan of $600-$900 on: May 25, 2013, 03:39:20 AM
I'm interested in taking out a loan of between $600 and $900 from an established forum member. I have multiple transactions on this board selling/buying hardware, lending/borrowing, buying/selling BTC, etc. and I have a good track record elsewhere, [H]Forums, pcper forums, anandtech, and others. I have scanned bills/identification, etc. The risk for the lender is very low.

Ideally, this would be a 90-day loan with $300 repaid every 30 days at a rate of 8% or less/30 days.

Prefer Capital One P2P payments or Dwolla, secondarily Amazon payments or lastly, Paypal.

If needed, the loan could be partially or fully guaranteed by BTC.

Drop me a PM with an interest quote and terms, be sure to mention if the quote is for a guaranteed loan or non-guaranteed.

Thanks!
19  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS: 5850, 5870, 2x6850, 2x6790 - $600/all on: May 09, 2013, 09:34:29 PM
I have a few cards to sell. They are all used and sold as such. They are sold "bare" without any originial CDs, boxes, or accessories. I have quite a few forum, OTC (eroxors) and Heatware references and my trading history is documented on the boards. I can provide character/trading references if desired as well. Price does not include shipping. I will accept BTC only for international buyers, otherwise Dwolla, Amazon Payments are also accepted with rep (Paypal as a very last resort and only to buyers with significant references.) All MH settings are strictly YMMV. I'm fine with Escrow.

1x Powercolor 5850 - $130
Great shape except for a missing fan blade. I glued it back on, but bumped it and it came off again. I will include the fallen-off blade for you to repair as you wish. Gets 365MH/s with a slight overclock.

1x Dell Reference 5870 2XTG4 - $170
Fair shape. Functionally it works well, but the shroud has been removed one-to-many times and has been superglued (by myself) on for security. See the pics. 450MH/s on stock voltage at ~950mhz.

2x XFX 6850 - $220 for pair
Good condition. Both have been registered by me with XFX. One has a dead fan and currently has an aftermarket cooler, it will come with the original fan/shroud. I will help with RMA if it comes to that. Between 200-250MH/s depending on settings.

2x XFX 6790 - $170 for pair
These have 256-bit bus and are Barts cores with 800 shaders. 225MH/s in BAMT. I've been mining BTC with them, but I suspect they would be better at LTC with the extra mem. bandwidth. Both are like new and only mined for a few weeks. Unsure of registration status, I don't believe they are registered.

I ship quickly via. usps.
20  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / powered pci-e extenders are largely unnecessary on: May 09, 2013, 02:43:54 AM
I see so many topics regarding powered extenders and their importance, but from my experience, they are a waste of time/money.

I only have anecdotal evidence, but I have used dozens of cheap, unpowered extenders with a multitude of platforms/gpus and have never had any issues, even when doubled up (2 extenders chained) or used with a pci to pci-e adapter card (only 35 watts of power.)

Maybe I'm just lucky? Maybe component quality matters? (ps/mobo)

Maybe a smart person can explain why my 30+ card setup has no issues with unpowered risers but others do?

Just my 2 cents.
