Paper: http://eprint.iacr.org/2017/230

Is this a realistic threat or more of a theoretical threat which is incredibly unlikely to happen?
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Do any dev proposals mitigate the centralizing impact of increasing block size? on: March 09, 2017, 05:53:35 PM
I'm wondering about sharding, for example, of the kind being developed for Ethereum.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [New Concept] Replicating the Most Successful Features of Fiat in Crypto on: July 19, 2016, 08:04:59 AM
Following extensive research into the nature of money in the 21st century I have identified the most important characteristic shared by all of the world's most successful currencies, and which is sadly missing from the world of cryptocurrency.

Consumer surveys have revealed that the average 'man in the street' is still wary of 'virtual currencies' which they perceive as not being real and 'not backed by anything'. So after identifying the most popular methods for providing backing for a currency, which are chosen again and again over other options by consumers all over the world, Cryptorials is ready to share an exciting new concept offering ordinary people exactly what they want in a currency and thereby taking cryptocurrency to a whole new level of mainstream adoption.

Our new coin will be 100% backed by violence, just as the modern consumer demands.

Studies have shown that the average global consumer is lightly armed and displays a heavy preference for following the orders of people with guns. The people have spoken, through their actions they have told us what they want...

The initial money taking (IMT) for this exciting new concept coin will follow three stages:

  • Build an intrusive database of personal info a 'community', the members of which will be tracked, monitored and issued with the latest demands kept up to date with the latest offerings
  • 'Ask' for money
  • Kidnap anyone who doesn't pay and demand a ransom impose fines
  • Shoot anyone who resists

In return for their contribution, community members who comply with our demands will be offered 'protection' from other gangs economic blocks. To make this process as easy as possible, credible threats from outside forces will be manufactured highlighted.

The initial distribution of the coins themselves, as well as ongoing coin creation at an inflation rate carefully designed to suit my own personal agenda, will take place using our patented funnel technology, through which anybody who needs money for any purpose must borrow it from me and pay it back with interest, or obtain it from somebody who has done so.

By replicating the most successful features employed by all of the world's most popular currencies we too can offer the discerning 21st century consumer everything that they demand from modern money.

Please join the revolution by posting your name, address and full financial statements below.
4  Economy / Service Discussion / Cloud Mining & Bitcoin Politics on: March 20, 2016, 10:07:25 AM
Miners clearly have a huge amount of control over the future direction of bitcoin development - it is their support for the various node versions out there now which largely determines their success.

But as we all know mining has become divorced from actual use - miners and ordinary users are now largely two separate groups. The vast majority of users therefore have little or no say in the direction Bitcoin takes.

This is a huge opportunity for cloud mining to fulfill an actual useful purpose.

There are loads of cloud mining services out there, but most are either unprofitable or outright scams. Strangely, none of them actually devolves the power that miners have into the hands of the people that use Bitcoin.

I decided to create this thread as a call for somebody to set up a cloud mining service which isn't just a fake way for people to make a profit, but instead provides a way for people to buy a stake in the decision making process for future Bitcoin development (or to find out about any services which do this that I might have missed).

I have never been involved in mining, but I would buy into a cloud mining service like this, even if it was openly unprofitable and even if it was just for a small amount. If there is anybody here who is able to do such a thing, I would also be willing to help with promotion.

Please let me know what you think about whether something like this would be possible. Thanks.
5  Economy / Service Announcements / ANN Bit of Shopping Search Engine on: August 24, 2015, 11:12:45 AM
'Bit of Shopping' is a custom search engine which only returns results from online retailers who accept bitcoin and / or altcoins as payment.

No matter what you want to buy, you can now find a retailer who wants to sell it to you in return for BTC!

Check it out here: http://bitofshopping.com
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Better Incentive for Users to Run Nodes on: August 18, 2015, 02:39:31 PM
I suspect that this conversation must be happening somewhere but I couldn't see where, so if this is a repeat of another thread please just point me in the right direction and close this one.

In the message from someone claiming to be Satoshi it was written "I suspect we need a better incentive for users to run nodes instead of relying solely on altruism."

I like this. How could this work? Anybody working on a proposal for it?
7  Economy / Services / [WTH] PHP Dev for Faucetbox Mod on: August 05, 2015, 09:48:18 PM
I want somebody to modify the basic faucetbox.com script for me to add some kind of pagination.

Please pm me with quotes, and include some info about your experience.
8  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN] Bitcoin Services Comparison from Cryptorials on: July 27, 2015, 04:20:55 PM

Cryptorials.io is proud to announce the launch of a new section of our site dedicated to providing you with a quick and easy way to compare the prices, features and performance of popular Bitcoin services.

Review pages will also be provided for each listed service, where you will be able to read customer reviews or publish your own.

Over time, we aim to include comparison tables for all of the following categories and more:

Bitcoin Web Hosting
Cloud Mining
Crypto Casinos and Poker Sites
Exchanges
Wallets
Hardware

Currently three web hosting sections have been completed:

And one gambling section:

At the moment service providers are listed in no particular order. Eventually I would like to add star ratings for customer reviews and use a combination of that and the number of clicks to each service's website to rank them by popularity, but that probably won't happen for some time. All data will be manually checked and updated on a weekly schedule, and new services will be added whenever possible.

You can suggest additional service providers for inclusion by leaving a comment on the relevant comparison page. I will update this thread as new sections are added - research is currently ongoing for pages on cloud mining, VPS hosting and dedicated server hosting.

Thanks for reading our ANN!!!
