3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Idea: Use Multi Sig to have lost property returned to you. on: March 22, 2013, 09:26:35 PM
Imagine the scenario where you lose your phone, jewellery or even your favourite pet. Often times people will offer a reward for the return  of such items.

What if instead you attached part of a private key to the item  and all a person would have to do is return it to get the other half of the key to claim  a bitcoin reward ?

You could even use it alongside serial numbers on your household items so that if your stuff gets stolen you can prove you own it because you can redeem the bitcoin address attached to it.

Shouldnt this forum have 2 factor auth by now ? Given the amount of people who claim their forum accounts get compromised it would be a good idea.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why we need alternate chains. on: March 08, 2013, 07:47:11 AM
Once you get to a stage where your client is using 15gb bandwidth a week it defeats the purpose of having a p2p currency when you will be forced to use an online wallet which means your coins can be traced.

Donate to wikileaks from blockchain.info and receive a drone attack through your window  Cool

Believe it or not some places have bandwidth caps and you can be shut out of the network if you value controlling your own wallet.

If bitcoin gets to this stage anyone who values financial privacy will not use it. So its good to have alternatives because using a thin client that relies on someone elses server isnt the answer.

13  Other / Politics & Society / Australia's new "unexplained wealth orders" on: March 06, 2013, 06:55:04 AM
http://www.armstronglegal.com.au/criminal-law/asset-forfeiture/nsw-crime-commission/unexplained-wealth-order

How would this affect bitcoin users?

If you get incredibly wealthy from holding bitcoins I would advise never cashing them out in Australia.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coin Mixer currency. on: March 06, 2013, 01:35:02 AM
What if an alternate currency had a large reserve of coins which would be used for a giant coin mixing service for that currency ?

For example opencoin and their 80 billion spare coins could accept "tainted" ripples and swap them out for fresh coins.

Its probably not going to happen for obvious reasons  Cheesy

15  Other / Off-topic / How much is BFL making in interest ? on: March 05, 2013, 08:06:53 AM
If you take BFL at their word and they are not touching customers orders the money could be sitting in a bank or forex account somewhere...

If they have taken millions of dollars worth of preorders thats a lot of interest they are earning off their customers.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / This would be a nice bitcoin collectible. on: March 05, 2013, 07:28:32 AM
If you could get a copy of the times article that satoshi quoted and mount it in a frame to hang on the wall.

Quote
The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks

An actual copy of the newspaper would also be a "bitcoin collectible" item.

On a more serious note, it will have an amd radeon graphics card inside so no doubt someone might hack it to mine an alt coin ?

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Rarecoin on: February 26, 2013, 07:02:13 AM
Why do all the alt coins that now exist have more than 21 million coins , or will when the subsidy finishes ?

Why not bring out an alt coin that has less than 1 million coins as its total ?

Would fees be lower overall since they would be a larger percentage of coins in existence ?
