1  Economy / Speculation / We are now stagnant, which way will we go afterwards? on: November 15, 2013, 02:24:29 AM
After the good rally up to the mid 400s, it appears that we have pulled backwards and are struggling to reach the highs again.

Price is currently holding at around 420-30 for Gox, but how long will this last?

Where will we be short term after we see major movements again? Is it up or down?

Discuss where you think the price of BTC will be during the next major market movement.
2  Economy / Speculation / PANIC BUY!!!! on: November 12, 2013, 02:59:36 AM
This is it. If you're not in yet, buy and get ready for the ride upwards.
China is going crazy, might hit all time highs very VERY soon.

Obviously this is compounded by:
  • Increased confidence upon the correction
  • The endurance of today's MtGox ordeal

1BTC > $500 is my bet once this is all over.
3  Economy / Speculation / So when is it going to blow? on: April 09, 2013, 04:26:23 AM
Is the price really sustainable?

Eventually everyone will get scared and dump their load on the people who come in late  Cheesy
Price will go crashing down and the manipulators will have made their multimillion profits.

I sense a price peak soon.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Normal Litecoin mining reject rates? on: October 16, 2012, 03:04:40 AM
What is everyone getting for their reject rates?

I believe mine is too high, I have 6,818 accepted shares and 832 stales, meaning 10.88% are stale.

However this is not the same as bitcoin mining so I am not sure.
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why is this transacation taking so long to confirm? on: October 07, 2012, 09:56:20 PM
https://blockchain.info/tx/b1630a7faf60e8c93471497ee1b27f5939e24f1c7ee33ca9bc5e0d9ae7a5c5d9

I just noticed I posted this in the wrong section, but it's been a few blocks since the transaction yet it is still unconfirmed.

What causes this to happen, since normally most transactions are confirmed as soon as the next block is solved.

In that sense, what makes a transaction eligible for inclusion in a block?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Which is currently more profitable, Bitcoin or Litecoin mining? on: October 01, 2012, 12:34:49 AM
Title says it all.

From what I've seen bitcoin mining is much easier to set up and get it working, while litecoin mining is much more underdeveloped, especially for GPUs.

Is it still more profitable than bitcoin mining like it once was? Or should I stick with bitcoins?

8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mining indoors during summer on: September 15, 2012, 07:28:07 PM
I currently have my rig in the garage for mining, which is a big problem since whenever I go out there I'm attacked by mosquitoes because I leave a door in the back of my garage open for better ventilation.

However it seems like most people here mine indoors.  For example, when looking at the pictures of your mining rigs page I see people with their rigs almost exclusively indoors.

How do you guys do it? AC will double the amount of energy consumed if I am correct.

Do you just not care about profit and just leave the miners indoors for comfort and the fun of it?

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Hashing question [Litecoin] on: September 15, 2012, 06:16:51 PM
I am mining with a 5850 and 7970 for a total of 850 Mhash/s on bitcoins.

My question is, how would I know how much I will get on litecoins?

Is there a website that details out the specifications for hardware much like bitcoin mining hardware comparisons?
10  Bitcoin / Mining / My mining rig is so lucky on: September 14, 2012, 02:45:15 AM
850 Mhash/s

Solved a block yesterday at a difficulty of 2,694,048.

What an unexpected outcome, considering there's ~23000+ other rigs if all rigs were 850 Mhash.

Just had to share that  Tongue

12  Bitcoin / Mining / What happened to the mystery miner? on: June 12, 2012, 04:52:28 PM
I just checked the blockchain and the one mysterious miner that solved ~20-30 blocks a day is gone.

Was that a botnet that was somehow taken down? I'm curious.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Network Hashrate variations on: June 11, 2012, 07:22:01 PM
Hello,

A trend I have been noticing for quite awhile is how much the total network hashrate varies.  It regularly jumps from ~11 Thash/s to 15 Thash/s and vice versa.

Why would people power off their rigs like that so often? I see no reason for it to vary that much especially since it seems stable over courses of days and then finally takes a sharp increase or drop, indicating that it is not due to "part time" miners.

Or is the reported hashrate simply jumping around due to the luck and variance of the rate of solved blocks, while there is actually a stable constant hashrate for the most part?

Just a question of wonder.

14  Other / Politics & Society / Wtf is the government thinking on: June 03, 2012, 06:51:49 PM
The government, ironically, is supposed to be a government for the people, in the USA at least.  Yet we have constantly seen that people are being controlled by the government, and our freedoms being taken away slowly, and slowly, and slowly,  yet we have allowed this to happen.

Let me list some things:

1. Tobacco Tax
2. Banning smoking in public places
3. Plastic bag ban
4. Ban on drugs (Looks bad, but there is no reason for marijuana to really even be banned)
5. Closure of coal plants (30 closed across the nation, decreasing our electricity generation capacity)

And more...

Unfortunately for me to make things worse, I live in a liberal city full of liberals that want things only their way.  They're increasing electric rates, banning plastic bags soon and making a big stir...

Electric used to be much cheaper $0.03-0.04 and now it's going up to rates such as $0.15/KWh.  They decided to close down a ton of power plants in the city while demand is rising, and decided that stealing more money from our pockets is a viable solution to lower demand and rolling blackouts.

So why don't people stand up to the government?  Our freedoms are slowly being taken away.  The majority politicians only go into government to control people and have power.  Of course that is human nature but we still can limit that from having such slow and devastating impacts on our freedoms.
15  Bitcoin / Mining / Benefits of using BAMT/Linux? on: May 27, 2012, 05:56:55 PM
Hello,

I am currently mining without OC and plan to never OC.  I am currently on Windows with CGMiner.

I would like to know what the benefits of mining in linux is.  My system is also headless without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

How easy is it to administrate from another computer? Currently I am using windows remote desktop since the miner is Win 7.
16  Bitcoin / Mining support / Any Problems with putting rig in car garage? on: May 25, 2012, 10:25:32 PM
Hello,

I currently have my miner already but it heats up the area quite fast, and is a miner that is mining in an open area where the heat can dissipate to the rest of the house.  This is my concern because I don't want to pay extra for AC and therefore reducing my profit from mining.

I would like to ask if the garage will have any bad effects on the cards.  I already have the case fully enclosed so there won't be issues with bugs and whatnot.
Would the garage ambient temperature be bad or not?

Thanks,

Aqrulesms
17  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Ati HD 7970 + 5850 on: May 21, 2012, 09:18:37 PM
Hello,

I have ordered a 7970 and I am currently awaiting for it to arrive. I also have a 5850 that I currently have already.

My simple question is, will there be any compatibility issues?

18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Good time to order BFL Single? on: May 20, 2012, 04:05:04 PM
Hello,

I am attempting to start a true mining investment in bitcoins.  Currently I am mining with a single 5850 and would like to start out with a real money making model to make some small cash.

With the 25 BTC halving coming in December 2013, or possible market crashes/fluctuations, is there any concern to the failure to recoup my investment?

The wait time for these units is quite long, at 60 days, so this is something I am worried about.

Or should I go ahead and borrow money from my parents(Yes they are lending me some, I have all my money deposited for College) and go ahead with the mining?

Maybe I am worrying too much?

Thank you,

Aqrulesms
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Buying another 5850 for crossfireX, want advice. on: February 26, 2012, 10:57:06 PM
Hello,

I currently have a converted gaming rig that I am currently using for mining. It is currently running a 5850 at 300 mh/s at stock speed without OC, as I want to make sure my card has a fair longevity.

I am deciding whether or not to add another 5850 to this rig. The most concern I have is for the slowly increasing difficulty rate and was wondering if I could make back my $150 on this to later increase on my mining endeavors.

At the moment HD 5850s cost $150 each, as you may know. In total I am simply wondering that with the combined power of 600 mh/s, can I make back my money fast enough?

Power is not a concern, and it costs about 3 cents per kilowatt, totaling at 6 cents due to fuel cost.

Thanks for your opinions and advice.  Smiley
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Is it a good time to jump into mining? on: February 26, 2012, 02:24:52 AM
Hello,

I have recently found out about bitcoins and I would like to start mining. From what I heard, the difficulty of getting BTC is going up exponentially.

With only an HD 5850 churning out 370mh/s, is it a viable and profitable opportunity?

All tips and advice are welcome.
