101  Economy / Trading Discussion / Are there any good portfolio trackers? on: June 15, 2019, 06:41:16 PM
I'm trading crypto and currently use trading view because I keep everything in cold storage and don't move it until it reaches a point. I am experiment with coinbase but don't trust them with much, is there a way to track a portfolio from an app and see the whole btc value at that time?

It would require something like a watch only wallet or something similar... I might get into real estate and stocks trading for the capital I don't want to risk as much so if there's anything that encorporates them then I'd be interested to know of it too but just bitcoin and alts to start with is fine...
102  Other / Meta / The bitcoin wiki board could do with some attention on: June 10, 2019, 07:12:25 PM
I'm looking at the bitcoin wiki and it looks like there aren't many responses there recently. A lot of threads there seem to have 0 responses and it seems to be fairly empty a lot of the time but could do with being noticed by moderators of the wiki every so often (once a week maybe enough just to check if there's anything new).
103  Economy / Speculation / When money is inflated, where does it go? on: June 07, 2019, 03:09:50 PM
I'm missing a link here and things don't seem to add up.

Most places say that a bank gets the money for inflation and has to pay it back, but if this is the case the system would topple much faster than it does when it's just with its fractional reserve ponzi shit.

Is the government given this money? I'm talking about the UK but if there's the same or different elsewhere then feel free to discuss thst too.
104  Economy / Exchanges / Is there a bitcoin contactless debit card app? on: June 06, 2019, 06:02:51 PM
I'm thinking of putting some fund aside in bitocin for daily spending and am wondering if there's an app that I can use for this (I used to take out a certain amount of cash at the start of the month and carry that on me but that seems a bit more risky and I'm starting to like using the contactless feature on my phone). I see a lot of companies seem to be offering this but I can't seem to find one that is simple (I want to use GBP for payments if that's possible yet).
105  Other / Meta / Has anyone suggested adding an autolock feature to advanced options? on: May 27, 2019, 12:18:34 AM
Similar to how you can make a topic self moderated, it would be interesting if you can toggle an autolock function so a thread locks after a certain number of responses.

I.E if you know it's a bit of a simple question, you could set autolock to 5 and then wait for those responses and the thread will automatically lock itself to new replies once the 5th reply has been made. There could be a way to toggle this once it's set to increase or disable the autolock if the topic becomes more interesting.

It happens a lot in this and other parts of the forum where a question gets answered and then someone picks up on something that has been said and just keeps going on about it even though it isn't related... Some memebers, like me will write about things just before bed or before going out in order to get a reply once we come back online so we can't sit patrollling the topics all the time. The alternativve to this is making everything selfmod but you can't do that in meta.
106  Other / Politics & Society / What's wrong with huawei? on: May 27, 2019, 12:03:17 AM
I'm confused about the huawei, US government, Chinese government and US corporations stances towards the company.

To be honest, the Chinese government probably have a lot of control over Huawei but no more than the NSA have over microsoft, intel, google and facebook. Look at the wannacry virus and how quickly that spread to notice how the US government fund flaws in Microsoft's Windows OS.

The 5G debate is an interesting one too. I don't see why we actually need it for starters, 50mbps is fast enough for virtually everything you want to do (I travel between capital cities and my phone loads in an instant when connected to data, why chase milliseconds - the server on the other end is still going to be pretty slow)? Anyway, even if huawei do provide 5G networks to places like the UK, I still don't see how they'll get very much power... This could all just be part of the trade war between Trump and the rest of the world, spreading random fud in order to ensure the US government can remain one of the strongest economies and  be able to keep track of everyone. Can huawei really do worse than Google or have I missed something?
107  Other / Meta / [new rule] stop people giving the mean and interquartile range without box plot on: May 26, 2019, 04:12:08 PM
I have noticed recently a lot of people make references to means and interquartile ranges and then don't go on to make a blox plot about it. The least they could do is make a nice box and whisker diagram of the data they have in order to show the range in a much nicer way. There are times when it's really appropriate but for some reasons users don't do this, can we make it a rule?

An image says a thousand words after all... And two images next to each other say three thousand.
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / [Resolved] Bitcoin Core assertion failed error? on: May 26, 2019, 04:07:59 PM
Jump to solution

I'm getting an on the startup screen of an error that says there's an issue at line 102 of bitcoin-qt "pindexWalk->pprev" I just downloaded the latest version v0.18.0.

In the debug log, everything goes as normal and it gets to the point where it uses the obfuscation key, the key used is zero though which seems odd.

I'm on windows 7 sp1.
109  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Update pool stats on: May 26, 2019, 10:36:04 AM
I stumbled across here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools

Why don't we have viabtc and the bitfury/ckpool solo mining pools listed there too?

Also I'm not sure if the fees are up to date but they could do with being checked periodically to check if they are. The fees have certainly gone up recently from the old 0% and 1% they used to be...
110  Other / Off-topic / Is there any way to hide a word in an Internet browser? on: May 25, 2019, 04:17:36 AM
I'm going to meet a group of people and they always latch on to what I'm doing on the Internet when they've had something to drink and try to discuss it with me.

I'm on a hauwei phone running firefox, is there a way to completely replace every instance of "bitcoin" with "cryptography" or "the art of cryptographically signing something with a public and private key" in order for no one to know what I'm doing and for me to still know what stuff means?
111  Economy / Securities / [idea] An altcoin investment service with a twist. on: May 21, 2019, 10:14:38 PM
I've been looking at what LoyceV did and I feel it can be improved upon somewhat. I sent these improvements but I think they're somewhat difficult to pull off for what he was tryting to make (it being fixed to 10 months).

Instead I want to propose the following:
• Everyone in the group participates 1 altcoin they have in mind.
• The coin must have fallen or be set to rise soon (if the coin generally doesn't go below a certain value then this is it).
• There must be a target for how much the coin is set to rise and it must be over 50% (for a lot of coins there's usually a good chance of this happening) - by this I mean there should be proof it has done it before.
• A stoploss could be put in place that will be around 10% of the value of the coin.
• Thre could be a potential expiration period as I see no reason in keeping the coins held forever, once the expiration has passed, anything over 10% should be what the coins are sold for.

Have I overcomplicated this or should this work? I'm thinking it would be a good idea more for experience traders so that we are able to diversify our assets a bit more as it's easier to watch over 1-3 coins as it is to watch over 10?
Most long standing coins bought strategically should profit this way.
112  Economy / Exchanges / Getting rid of the pop up boxes on bitmex. on: May 17, 2019, 11:39:15 PM
I like the confirmation boxes as I can check that I've clicked the right button however, the ones that show up on the bottom right hand cornder are really annoying as they get in the way.

Just now I bought something to sell, it shot up to the price I wanted to sell it at and the box got in the way and the price fell while I was waiting for it to disappear. Is there a way to get rid of the box or am I better off setting a stop initially and then changing it once the box is gone?
113  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / What cable does my new trezor ONE take? on: May 16, 2019, 07:12:53 PM
I bought three trezors (because I thought they looked cool and because my multisig started to stop working on transactions larger than 1kb).

I want to connect my trezor one to my phone but I'm stuck as to which cable to use.

Is it a micro USB A or a micro USB B? My phone uses usb C and it would be great if I can use it directly on my phone.
114  Economy / Economics / Why can't we have a good cryptocurrency exchange? on: May 14, 2019, 01:28:40 AM
Ima be blunt, based on the fact that loads of people are still without exchanging trade pairs because the likes of binance and such have decided to close deposits indefinitely (gcse computer science and business for us teaches how to develop disaster recovery regimes) so the fact that high profit exchanges can't do it is just off.

Most of these exchanges do stuff with customers money too while on there especially if they haven't withdrawn for a long time. Coinbase, poloniex, bitmex and binance I believe will all be susceptible to this, as well as bitfinex who have already proven how great their money management strategies are (I luckily only had a dollar on there at the time of that hack)...
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / [h] 120 dcr [w] eth on: May 12, 2019, 11:28:50 AM
As stated in the subject, I want eth in exchange for my 120 decred. If I get someone interested I'll probably want to do this in about 4 chunks. I'm looking for about 18.1-19 eth for this.
116  Other / Meta / [suggestion] a button that turns negative to neutral on: May 10, 2019, 04:28:18 PM
Some of the negative trusts I've left are retaliatory feedback, while that user doesn't remove their initial feedback the retaliation is important however I feel that the date should stay the same and the description so is there a way to make a button that turns neg trust into neutral?

This came up in a thread yesterday but it wasn't the main topic of discussion so I thought I'd make a thread where it is.
117  Economy / Service Discussion / Do bitmex make a load of profit when you're liquidated on: May 06, 2019, 11:19:04 AM
I'm talking about a forced liquidation using a high leverage. I was using 100x leverage and it seemed to only be leveraged at 52x so I assumed that half of my capital might get returned at the bottom but it didn't... This means that bitmex are making a huge profit on this (and you should set a stop loss $1 above the forced liquidation price (I'm not sure if I'm completely wrong but this seems right to me).
118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Full support of native segwit in the app has been released. on: April 27, 2019, 10:06:29 PM
I'm finding this very interesting as I only just noticed this now but my old wallet got updated to have a native segwit receiving address)(beginning bc1) which I think is a great step for this app. With its notifications too it might even be the best out there for android now. (I'm referring to the Andrea's schildbach bitcoin wallet app)...
119  Economy / Trading Discussion / Has anyone successfully used really high leverage or is that just gambling? on: April 22, 2019, 11:24:11 AM
By really high leverage I mean anything that's over 100x. Is it possible to be successful doing that. I have short term profits with 10x leverage but I'm wondering about experimenting with higher. Also I'm guessing it's safer to make a 100x bet for and against yourself just as a bit of insurance so you don't lose too much (obviously using the api as I'm not that fast).
120  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Anyone running AB core? (android full node)? on: April 15, 2019, 09:12:49 PM
This seems interesting app as it apparels that you run your own pruned nose on an android phone. I was actually thinking of making a similar thing myself as you can just switch a few things round in vs (in the way I'd do it, they've probably done sonehhing more productive and reasonable).

I've downloaded and run it. I'll give an update as to how well it works.
