Squares -- A thread to gamble your favorite altcoins on sports

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1478307.0

I don't really know if I'm allowed to link my thread on this section of the forum, but it seemed like it would be OK. Mods, if this isn't allowed, you can delete this thread; I just wanted to get the word out on the main gambling section and since there will be gambling of Bitcoin too on this thread, I felt it can be considered for both marketplace sections.

As of right now, luigi1111 will be helping to escrow and hold the funds for this; from what I know he is pretty reliable and I think he will do a great job. This will be used as a future template for future upcoming tournaments that I will try to hold. *Still trying to work out the details with a good provably fair mechanism for the drawings*

Hello Everyone!

I will be trying out something (if we get enough people) on this thread to get people together and enjoy a relatively cheap way to gamble on sports games with the potential to win big.

How this will work:

- People will propose a sports game that they would like to bet on and whoever gets the "highest votes" for the week will be chosen as the game of the week

- An escrow (luigi1111) will receive your bets... YOU CAN BET IN WHATEVER DENOMINATION YOU'D LIKE, but you will need to shapeshift your funds into BTC.

- (Until further notice) Each "square" on the table will be worth BTC.001, and you can buy as many "squares" as you'd like.  You just need to make sure that you are sending funds through shapeshift to the escrow's BTC wallet.

- We (luigi1111 or I) will keep a log under the table in play about who is in and how many squares were purchased.  When you submit your transaction, you can let us know on here and tell us what denomination you are "playing for"... Meaning, that when you win, the jackpot (in this case .1 BTC's worth) will go to you in your preferred cryptocurrency of choice.  This way, when someone wins, we can easily send the funds straight to whatever wallet you desire and in any cryptocurrency you desire.  We'll keep these things logged in beside your name and how many squares you have purchased.

- The game is played in a very simple format:  Let's say that in this case we're betting on one of the NBA finals games.  The top and side row with numbers will be designated with whatever team is playing that night.  Let's say it's GSW vs. CLE... GSW is at the top and CLE is on the side.  The score is 103 to 97, GSW is the winner.  So, if you look at the 3 on the top row and go down to the column where 7 is located, whoever is in that "square" is a winner.  Simple, right?? Cool

- As of right now, I'm still working on a way to have a reliable, open, provably fair way to go about assigning people each of their bought squares... I'll update this thread later with how I will be doing that.

** UPDATE **: I am buying out the board and setting the pot to BTC.05 to maybe spark interest in the game and to have a lower "buy-in" for players to play.  We still need people to state their interest and what game they want to pick... NOTE: this pool can be used for any game/sport... idk how fair it would be with a sport like hockey or soccer where the scores are generally low, but we'll figure it out and maybe come up with a provably fair way to assign people to squares.

** UPDATE #2 **: The matches for right now are at 0.0002 BTC a square, which comes out to be a mere $0.11 ... so if you want to try it out, or need a reason to make sports just a little more interesting, let me know here or a PM if you'd like to play!
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Monero Madness on: March 16, 2016, 06:54:52 PM
MONERO MADNESS

Hey guys, decided it might be fun for some of us who would like to try our luck in picking out our own brackets for March Madness this year!  Since probably everyone on here (including my self) doesn't really keep up with college basketball (in the U.S.), I decided it would be equally as fair to win some Monero and will make it somewhat enjoyable/interesting to watch a game if someone has it on their T.V. at a friends house or out to eat at some bar.

So here's what I'm thinking:

- 1 entry per user
- 10 XMR to play  ... ?? up for discussion ?? (somewhere around 5-25 XMR)
- Figured going through ESPN.com would be easiest to set up our brackets (very simple to sign up a username)

Since ESPN doesn't allow gambling, I figured we will just trust each other to pay up at the end of the bracket.  If you would like to play, sign up on ESPN and message me on either of the ANN or speculation threads or PM me.  Since this is gambling that's based on trust of the individual to pay up if he/she loses, then we as a group need to approve the user wanting to join.  Obviously, this is the best way to avoid trolls and/or people who have valid marks of negative trust.  Preferably, users on here need to be above a jr. member to join the group.  If there are people who join the group who are not accepted to participate, and they win, then the person with the highest points earned on their bracket will win.  When signing up to ESPN, I would prefer that you use your bitcointalk name for your ESPN username to keep things simple on determining who is who.

IF THERE IS SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO PLAY WITH OTHER ALT COINS:  I'm open to accepting you, but if you lose you are required to shapeshift your altcoin to XMR and pay it out toward the winners address.

List of "approved" participants as of right now:

1) phishead (floam412)
2) tifozi
3) jwinterm (jwinterm113)

---------------------------------------------------

Group Name: Monero
Password: blockchain  ... (didn't know what else to put)

Let me know if you guys are interested or not! Should be fun if we get a couple players to throw in 10 (or so) XMR.  May the best dudero win  Grin
64  Economy / Goods / Entertaining the idea of selling my Ollandoc hollow body guitar on: November 13, 2015, 09:02:53 PM
Just seeing if there were any people on here would be interested in purchasing an "Ollandoc" full hollow body electric guitar. These are produced by Robert M. Olson, a guitar maker out in Arkansas. This is a well done replica of a very famous guitar, the Languedoc, which was made famous by the guitar player for the band Phish, Trey Anastasio. To my knowledge, Paul Languedoc doesn't make these guitars anymore for just anyone who wants to purchase them, and his guitars get extremely pricey. Comes with Seymour Duncan pickups and plays wonderfully, I'm just thinking about getting a better acoustic guitar instead of keeping this one. Also comes with a hard shell case for it, and you would have to pay for shipping on top of what we agree on the price. If you'd like to make an offer feel free to shoot me a PM or post in the thread. Escrow is definitely encouraged.

65  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Fender Strat guitar w/ amp on: October 24, 2015, 05:55:58 AM
Selling an old guitar start up kit I got as a kid... Now that I'm older, I got a lot better guitars; so now that I won't be needing this one I figured I might as well get some kind of cash for it  Smiley . It comes with a power cord and 1 aux cord, will use escrow if necessary, and looking for roughly $120 in bitcoin for everything (not including shipping).

Plays wonderfully and is a good start up kit for anybody wanting to learn how to play... There are also around 20 background tracks pre loaded on the amp.  These kits go for about $140 used on amazon, but I figured someone might would want to purchase one of these with bitcoins instead.  Shipping is preferably for the US only.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is the argument for increasing the block size? on: October 15, 2015, 02:08:29 AM
Excuse my newbness...  but I've never really understood the arguments for increasing the block size.

What would that do to help the bitcoin economy grow?

What problems does it pose?

Do miners want this? Do users want this?

I don't really know if there is an ongoing thread about this topic or not on this subforum, but I was just curious to what everyone had to say about this.  I'm not a very computer savvy guy, so please keep it ELI5.  Thanks.

67  Other / Beginners & Help / What was the Mt. Gox bitcoin bubble? on: October 12, 2015, 03:52:02 AM
So ever since I just started learning more on this forum, I keep on seeing people posting about remembrance of the Mt. Gox scam and the bubble they created... So how did they create it in the first place? What led to people getting scammed out of so much money/bitcoin?
68  Economy / Exchanges / Where do exchange sites buy BTC to sell to their users? on: October 11, 2015, 09:24:17 PM
I was thinking about this the other day... Where do bitcoin exchange site like Circle, coinbase, gemini and others get the amount of bitcoins they need to sell to other users at a small fee? How can they get access to the direct market price with no middle man? How could I purchase bitcoins with no other middle man like these exchange sites? I know the only real way to get your own bitcoins would be to mine them, but I don't think these exchange sites could mine all of the bitcoins they steadily sell to people.
69  Economy / Investor-based games / Transparent Doubler: WTF happened thread on: September 30, 2015, 12:50:38 AM
So the site is apparently renovating, but at the same time I saw this on blockchain.info:

https://blockchain.info/address/1DqSnsFKioLiGy36DE1xed7MaLAMBhYWCu

He took out the 2 bitcoin net profit from the site and placed it in another wallet.  Is there anyway to start tracking this?  The site has put in a FAQ, ToS, and TxID finder which is new and said that the new FAQ's and ToS's is coming up in the new up coming days.  Not to mention that the Transparent doubler thread is now locked.

So what's going on?
70  Economy / Services / Willing to buy anything here in America and sell to you on: September 29, 2015, 12:23:05 AM
So I live in America, and better yet, live in the south were taxes are low.  So I will be willing to buy anything from any tobacco products (marlboro, grizzly, etc.) in bulk and sell to you. Or I could buy anything else you can think of that's prominent in the south (cheerwine, charleston chews, etc.) in bulk and sell it to you. If anyone would be interested I would negotiate a price for the cost of buying and shipping.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cold storage/physical bitcoin wallets killing bitcoin economy? on: September 24, 2015, 08:57:41 PM
I was just thinking about this the other day... if more and more people are buying bitcoin wallets to store their bitcoins in, and spend a lot of money to buy cold wallets in general to hoard their bitcoins, wouldn't this kill the bitcoin economy?  I would think over a period of time the more people will do this, the more bitcoins will not be regarded as a legit currency... just more as a commodity.
72  Other / Beginners & Help / Most reliable way to start increasing your trust rankings? on: September 20, 2015, 11:03:08 PM
So, how can I start earning trust on here when it seems to me that most people who deal stuff on bitcointalk only deal with people with green trust rankings and are more than just a newbie/new member.  I would prefer to deal with people with green trust ranking myself, but that just validates my point.  So what ways are there to increase my trust? It seems to be very hard to gain the trust of people when you have a low membership status  Undecided
73  Economy / Goods / [WTS] $50 Dick's sporting good gift card on: September 04, 2015, 02:12:43 AM
Hey so I got this for my birthday a while back, and I really don't have any use for it  Undecided

So I was thinking maybe one of you guys would want to use it for the right price! Willing to go through escrow and hopefully provide a speedy transaction. Looking to get around .18 BTC ... but if you give me another offer I'll look into it. Grin
74  Other / Beginners & Help / Question about different investment other than Ponzi schemes. on: September 03, 2015, 07:23:12 PM
I'm looking at buying a Sr/Hero/Legendary account and use signature campaigns to make money. Question is, what are good accounts going for now and days? What sig campaigns pay the most money as of right now? Do you think sig campaigns are going to last for a long time?

Everything related to this topic is most certainly welcome and appreciated  Smiley
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Newb question... need help! on: August 27, 2015, 06:22:15 PM
Hey guys! So I've been lurking here for a while and I'm pretty new to mining cryptonotes/cryptocurrencies and needed some advice as to how to go about mining profitable coins.  As of right now I'm really liking the potential future of Monero (XMR) and would preferably like to mine that, but am open to other coins.  I have tried mining with minergate, eobot, and other sites but with no avail.

Here are my desktop specs:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
2.00 GHz, 960 MB of RAM

Is my computer too old/does it have enough processing power? I've read multiple forums and posts that say that NVIDIA mining is useless, and then I would read somewhere else that certain coins allow miners with old computers the chance to mine and make a profit. So as of right now I'm a little confused as to what miner/wallet to download and where to download it, If I should use Linux or Ubuntu (and how to use them, where to download), if cloud mining is worth the money to not worry about mining on my own computer, etc.

So any opinions on what I should do would be much appreciated.  Grin
