1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why won't my transaction confirm when my fee is higher than others? on: May 05, 2017, 08:35:39 AM
Can someone please explain where I have gone wrong with my fee? Bare in mind that when I broadcasted this transaction the avergage fee was 60 sat/B. My fee is 100 sat/B which totals 0.00244634 but it's been stuck for like a day and a half or something.

Where am I going wrong?

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / First Ethereum mining rig and my take on the Rosewill build on: April 07, 2017, 01:03:38 PM
I have finally dived into Ethereum mining and was really inspired by the Rosewill server rack builds I see here.
I built 3 rigs,

FrankenRig1

Biostar TB85
EVGA 1200w
6x MSI RX 470 Armor OC

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 142mhs

FrankenRig 2

Asrock Z97 Extreme4
EVGA 1300w
6x Sapphire RX 480

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 135mhs

FrankenRigPrime

Asrock Z97 Extreme4
EVGA 1300w
6x Sapphire RX 480

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 155mhs

What I can't understand is how FrankenRig2 is the exact same build as FrankenRigPrime, everything is exactly the same from the memory, cpu, hdd's etc but I can't get a decent hashrate out of it at all and then FrankenRigPrime is built and the first overclock I put into it (999 core, 2200 memory) and it loves it.

For those who are wondering, yes that is a hacksaw blade.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Question about how much power to give a powered riser on: March 24, 2017, 09:50:37 AM
Hi everyone,

I bought these risers,

http://holybitcoin.com/product/pci-e-1x-16x-6-pin-powered-usb-riser-card/

I want to know if I can power them with these, but only using one of the two 4 pin molex's.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dual-4-Pin-Molex-to-6-Pin-PCI-E-Graphic-Card-Power-Adaptor-Cable-/172409234482?hash=item2824642432:g:LesAAOSwrklVMOKz

In hindsight I should have bought the 4 pin molex risers instead of these 6 pin ones. 6 pins seems a bit overkill to me.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Building a few rigs and need advice on all this custom GPU bios stuff on: March 16, 2017, 11:17:40 AM
I am building 3 rigs soon and it's only a matter of time before I want to tweak them to get the best hash rate that I can. I have never built a GPU rig before and all this custom bios stuff is a bit daunting to me.

What is the purpose of a custom bios? What can you do with a custom bios that you can't do in an overclocking tool?

How will this affect my cards when it comes time to re sell them?

How do I find out which type of memory my cards have?

MSI Radeon Armor RX 470 4GB

and

SAPPHIRE NITRO Radeon RX 480 4GB

I intend to use SimpleMining OS to run all of my rigs

Thanks everyone
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / S7's keep dying on: November 25, 2015, 05:04:53 AM
I have been having nothing but dramas with my antminer s7's. For the most part it's just been heat sinks falling off.

The current problem I am having with them is that one by one over time they just die. It starts with a miner mining for a few days and then randomly it will just stop mining.

I restart it, then it will happen the next day again. The the day after that it will happen about 3 times. Then the day after that I am lucky to get it to mine maybe 2 times for an hr or 2 and then after that it's dead for good.

I have lossed a total of 5 hashing boards this way.

It seems like I am the only on having this trouble.

I have tried the hashing boards on another controller with the same result. I have tried a different PSU. The temperatures are fine.

When I attempt to start the miner after this, this is what it looks like.

6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Advice needed from people who own APW3-12-1600 PSU on: September 14, 2015, 06:41:42 AM
I intended to power all 3 S7 hashing boards with one APW3-12-1600 PSU
But bitmain says it comes with only 6 pcie connectors. If I power all 3 boards with one psu it will only have 2 connectors per board (separate psu for controllers).

Bitmain says 3 connectors are needed per hashing board.

I need to figure out if this is right. Because it doesn't add up... On one hand bitmain says one psu can power 2 S5's
At 1180w but can't power a 1250w S7.

To cut this post short, can someone please tell me the awg of the cables that come with the APW3-12-1600 PSU
Please?
7  Economy / Speculation / Think the price of Bitcoin to be what it will be in 30 years when securing coin on: September 10, 2015, 02:21:59 AM
I am a very private bitcoin miner. I don't "believe" bitcoin will be worth a lot of money one day. I feel more that I "know" it will.

I truly believe that one day people will scour the internet forums and anywhere else where they can short list people who have been involved in the bitcoin community for a long time and are likely to be holding a stash of bitcoin.

People could physically threaten you or your family, attack your house, or perhaps hack you.

Maybe someone you know in the physical world may try to rob you?

I welcome any discussion of how you think it best to secure your wallet/s.

I currently have 2 thumb drives which I consider my "bank" wallet. Which is empty, but still, it's there for when I need to send to it. I have them encrypted in a winrar file, then the wallet itself encrypted with something near impossible to find, then that wallet is then broken up into fragments and embedded into a bunch of wedding photos. Probably overkill, but still, why not... I think I should also make a copy of this to a microsd and a small cd.

Hardware failure worries me.

Does anyone have any experience with the purpose made encrypted thumb drives?

How do you secure your bitcoins? or plan to in the future? Am I just overreacting?

Cheers
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Brainstorming Mining room cooling - Need advice on: September 04, 2015, 12:11:52 PM
I will have 5 Antminer S7's and they will already overheat due to the weather warming up here leading up to summer.

I have gone over a few methods of cooling, A/C, evaporative cooling etc. Evaporative cooling scares me because of the water in close proximity issue, drips getting sucked into miners as well as the odd 40C, 104F high humidity day. We get many storms here in summer and sometimes the humidity can get high for a day or two and I am concerned that there will be no cooling factor once that happens.

So this is my current scenario:

A insulated space panel box divided into 2 compartments (chambers on picture)

Outside air will get drawn in through both chambers separately as to draw cool air over the outside of the miners and the PSU's, and to draw the very hot air from the miners out and away from contact with electrical components.

My issue is that the summers get very hot here. Days over 45C, 113F are normal for periods of time, a week or more before a break in the weather.

Without knowing how well the S7 dissipates heat I have just estimated a reasonable amount of heat to be expected. If I could meet these numbers I would consider this a big success.  Obviously I would not want my miners to run above 60C, 140F but for this setup I may very well have to accept up to 70. Hopefully not.
