1  Other / MultiBit / Where can I verify that my MultiBit HD download has not been corrupted? on: September 14, 2016, 02:06:46 AM
When looking on https://multibit.org/ I don't see any gpg signatures or hashes I can verify with to see if the download I have hasn't been corrupted with any malware or something like that.

I know it's more of just parnoia/OCD; but that's just how I am, lol.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / OPHION signature campaign halt ... on: May 20, 2016, 08:25:30 PM
So I want this thread open to talk about the developments about this campaign, and to see if we are just screwed out of a week's worth of advertising for the devs or not...

Both the coin's [ANN] thread and the campaign thread has been locked so far.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is your favorite Bitcoin podcast? Or just tech related podcasts in general? on: May 19, 2016, 06:45:31 AM
I've been recently delving into listening to some podcasts lately and have wondered what is the general consensus on what is the best podcast to follow up on regarding on developing news in the crypto-sphere.

I would love to hear some input.

-- as of right now the only podcasts I've listened to so far that talk about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general is Bitcoin Uncensored... and to be honest, those guys get on my nerves a little bit.
4  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Does anyone know of a good mobile wallet that can sign/verify messages? on: December 07, 2015, 03:50:27 AM
So I was looking through the types of wallets I could have on my iOS here and didn't come across a wallet that has the ability to sign and verify messages. Since I'm always away from home it seems like, it would be nice to find a way to be able to get me own wallet on my phone that I could prove I have the private keys too on my phone. Does anyone know of any good wallets that could do this? Maybe an online wallet would have to do?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So... what really happened to Satoshi? Who was this person? on: October 26, 2015, 07:41:37 PM
Hey guys... so I'm still relevantly pretty new here and love learning here about the new current stuff that's going on in cryptocurrency world and slowly but surely gathering bitcoins and other cryptos.  But I have yet to found the real answer to this question.

What really happened to Satoshi?

I have yet to read anywhere a definitive answer to this question.  Did he/she just get tired with dealing with everyone and the devs and decided to keep his thousands/probably millions of bitcoins and run away?  Is he/she in Cuba smoking joints with Tupac?  What could have possibly lead him to leave the crypto world completely?  Do you think he/she is going by a different alias now and doing other projects with his time?

I would like to have a speculation thread about the whereabouts/who is Satoshi thread where I can learn all about the man, the myth, the legend.
6  Economy / Gambling / How to start a gambling website with just an idea, and no coding experience? on: October 20, 2015, 03:57:33 AM
So I've posted in this thread many times already and have yet to found any answers:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1036655.0

My question is this:
How would one go about starting a partnership with someone if we think we have a really really good idea for a new site that, I personally think, would make a lot of profit and people would love?  The idea is a new sports gambling website that has never been tried before.  I'm confident in that... because I've looked everywhere and no one has come up with this game yet.

Please, if anyone knows anybody who would like to form a partnership... let me know.  I couldn't just pay someone to code a website for me neither, because I currently live in the U.S. and legally the government won't allow me to host a site like that.
7  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Ti-Nspire or Ti-84+ silver edition calculators for BTC on: October 14, 2015, 08:15:47 PM
Looked up the prices that these calculators are going for on amazon, and it looks like the 84+ silver edition is going for somewhere around $65 used and the Nspire is going for $55 used... I'll take $10 off each price ($55 = 84+ ; $45 = Nspire) in BTC.

Ti-Nspire

Ti-84+ silver edition

Since I'm about to graduate, I won't have any need for these any more and am looking to go ahead and get rid of them (for the right price that is Grin ). I can post pictures tomorrow, I'm just seeing if there's any interest among people around here before I take the time and to take quality pictures of them.  I can also use any escrow you'd like.  Doesn't include shipping costs, and I will prefer to only ship it in the U.S.

Thanks!

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Need help mining with a 10 year old XP CPU: Cryptonite on: October 13, 2015, 05:40:09 PM
So the desktop computer I have is a Windows XP with an Athlon AMD CPU. I have tried following instructions posted on sites like getmonero.org and asked several people, but I seem to lost as hell when trying to get everything up and running.  I've tried using Minergate, and the miner it tells me to download (Windows 64-bit miner) won't open correctly when I try running it.  Could anyone please explain like I'm a toddler on how to get things up and running? I wouldn't mind mining boolberry, monero, Aeon, or whatever... I'd just like to put my computer to work, since it's already plugged in and sitting there doing nothing.
10  Bitcoin / Legal / VPS hosting and legalities of hosting gambling site made in U.S. on: October 12, 2015, 04:36:22 PM
So I was really wanting to try and open up my own gambling site, because I think I have come up with a great new idea for games to be created.  I was thinking that would it be possible to by pass some laws by purchasing a VPS server from, say, Switzerland and be ok hosting the site through there?  I don't know what I should do, all I know is that I have a pretty unique idea for a game.. and just don't know how to make it into a reality while earning some profit from my idea...

Any suggestions on what I should do to remain under the Fed's radar? Or should I just go ahead and try and apply for a gambling license... I don't know if that would be possible, where I'm located, because I don't live anywhere close to Nevada or New Jersey..
11  Other / Beginners & Help / My girlfriend has questions for the forum... on: October 11, 2015, 12:11:43 AM
Ok, so my girlfriend has recently asked me why I have been online for a while, and told her about the forum and why I invest my time and money into bitcoin/cryptos and it's forum.  She had a list of questions for me which I couldn't seem to give her the best answer to and found myself stumbling to come up with a short and direct answer.  She has asked the questions below and I would like to get an answer for each so I could tell her in a very easy way for me and her to understand.  I reworded her questions into away in which it would make the most sense.

Quote

1) How do people think that bitcoin is actually anonymous? You would have to buy them with your debit card/credit card in which banks have your information... why would you think that this stuff is actually anonymous and could be used in such a way?

2) How many people develop bitcoin? If it's a decentralized currency then if these people control how the currency works, how would that make it decentralized?

3) If it is a currency that can be used in a sort of anonymous way, then how can governments regulate it in a way to make sure that people aren't funding bad organizations like ISIS and drug lords?  "Harpua" has told me about what silk road was and the way the darknet markets work, but how can this be prevented?

4) My dad works in a government facility where he deals with high clearance documents in a high security facility.  His organization has just been recently hacked by the Chinese government and lost dozens of top secret information including SS#'s, locations of the homes of workers, basically any personal information about the workers of his business and his families (which includes me). How can cryptocurrencies ever be a secure enough form of transactions where governments and top notch hackers can't just find a way to hack into the blockchain database?

I found myself trying to sell her on why this form of currency is important and why it should be used.  But I couldn't find a reason why it is important without getting to sketchy businesses that need a sort of anonymous payment; like darknet sites.  Any simple explanations would be of real help, and she'll probably have more questions for you guys in the long run... we've been drinking and I'm trying to introduce her into the world of crypto which I have just been introduced to myself...

Thanks.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / What makes/what kind of physical coins valuable. Good investment idea? on: September 18, 2015, 10:16:38 PM
So I've been browsing the marketplace in my spare time when I have nothing else better to do, and I see people selling physical btc, ltc, xmr, et cetera ... and pricing them at a pretty high price.  Why is this?  Are physical coins going to steadily increase in value over time if cryptocurrencies value increases along with it?  The whole concept of physical coins has me a little confused...

Edit: Also, I see that some of these coins are made in valuable metals like gold, silver, copper... then you have some physical coins made with something like plastic... so if you think physical coins are going to be big in the future, does the potential value of the actual make up of the coin like a X2 factor in value?
13  Bitcoin / Project Development / seeking web developers/investors/graphic designers for new btc gambling game on: September 15, 2015, 05:15:21 PM
Hey guys,

So I made a thread in the newbie section about what to do if I had an idea to make a new type of btc gambling game.  I would like to invest in this idea and would like to have partners go in with me to make this website a success; and I think the best way for everyone to be happy with the results is to have an escrow to help stock funds and give developers their share of money (at a price we all agree on) and investors their share of money (again, what we agree on).  So here's the general concept, without going into much detail because I don't want anyone to steal the idea and create it for themselves... I would like to be the first to put this out.

It would be a gambling site that has a list of every sport out there (football, american football, baseball, nascar, etc. etc.) and have more than a handful of people bet into a pool for a particular game in a particular sport; whatever game they choose.  Once the limit hits for the amount of people required to play (and before the game starts, obviously); there will be a provably fair drawing for each "slot" each gambler holds.  Each "slot" that gambler gets, in it's self, will predict a certain outcome of the game and needs to be that prediction for the gambler to win.  This drawing must be made proven that it's completely random to people wanting to gamble on the site, I want to ensure there is no scheme that takes place to picking. There is no limit how many times one person can enter the match to play.

The site will not pick which games will be chosen or at what cost each "slot" is worth (and total pool amount); the site will just host every game on there that users create and take a small percentage of the pool (still don't know what that percentage should be yet, though I want to make it as small as possible for people to want to keep betting there).

I know this is a very vague description of the site I want to make, but again, I don't want anyone taking the idea for their own.  Just know that it needs to be a gambling site for sports and a provably fair system will be needed to create a pooled money game.  I play this type of game with people that go to a local bar of mine a lot and it's quite fun, and I would like to see it grow into a gambling site online for everyone to enjoy.  If anyone is interested in developing this and/or would like to invest with me, PM me or message me on this thread.

Thanks.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Question about starting new type of btc gambling game on: September 09, 2015, 10:00:31 AM
So I didn't know where else to post this topic, mods if this isn't the right place to talk about this PM me and I'll gladly move the discussion from this section of the forum.

So when I was trying to get some sleep last night, a light bulb went off in my head about a possible new type of btc gambling game that a large majority of sports lovers would enjoy. I've already visited multiple btc gambling websites, and I have yet seen this type of game being promoted. Because of the fact I don't want anyone taking my idea, I won't go into much detail. Just know that I would need to run a provably fair scrypt, and I don't know the slightest thing about coding, so I'm out of luck there.

Question is this though, what can I do to either start my own website with other investors who would like to participate in this experiment? Or should I pitch this game to an already established btc gambling website and invest my btc in their website. It's really hard to ask the right questions, because I would have no idea where to begin on this new found project of mine.

Any suggestions are welcome in this thread or you can PM me if you'd like as well. Thanks.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Core Help on: September 05, 2015, 03:37:39 PM
So I've been trying to download bitcoin core for the last two days and it still is synchronizing.  I know it takes a long time to synchronize, but it's been stuck in the same place like the 1/8th done spot for like the past 12 hours.

I should also let you know I take my laptop everywhere with me to and from work, and over at the girlfriends house, so could it be that wifi changes make it stop synchronizing until I get back home?  Or does it restart up once I connect to any wifi again?

I had a little over 20 GB to start with and that's what it said to have in your computer for it to download correctly, but now my computer is really starting to slow up, so I'm deleting a lot of files off my computer.  Does any one have any suggestions for me as to what I should do?  Huh

Thanks.
