14  Other / Politics & Society / USA vs CHINA in Consumer Marketing. on: October 31, 2015, 01:10:02 PM
In today’s world, all companies dream of winning in both the USA and China. These two countries are the top two economic powerhouses, and they represent two distinctive kinds of markets: developed Western markets and developing Eastern markets. My clients often have asked me what the main differences are between these two markets. What are the causes of these differences?

Here I’d like to share three insights on what the key consumer market differences are and provide some tips for global brands to quickly adapt to these two markets.

1. Personal Appeal vs. “Desire to Be Seen”
If I ask you, “Bill Gates and Guo jingming , a young Chinese new rich, attend the same conference. Which one of them will dress in a more flashy style, and more likely will dress in luxury brands?” It’s highly likely that Guo will wear the latest season’s Prada, but Gates will come in a low-key shirt. As the richest guy in the world, Gates doesn’t need to prove himself or get attention with brand labels. He just needs to buy what he really likes and feels comfortable with. However, Guo, a “new rich” from a small town, still needs external confirmation of his success. He not only needs first tier brands, but he also needs people to notice that he is wearing them.
The USA today, as a developed market, is more like Gates. Most consumer goods are within an affordable range. Consumers choose products more for their advantages to themselves rather than their reputations. Americans care more about how well things work than what image they project. China, a developing market, is more like Guo. People use brands not only for their functionality but also to project social status. That’s why some international brands changed their brand positioning in China. Häagen-Dazs, an ice-cream brand sold in American supermarkets, successfully reinvented itself as a luxury ice cream brand sold in boutique stores. Its absolute price in China is more than twice that in the USA. Americans treat Häagen-Dazs as ice cream, but Chinese see it as part of a high-end lifestyle.

2. Innovation vs. Brand Credibility
According to a consumer research study, the most important reason to choose a brand is “innovation” in the USA, but “brand credibility” in China.
China is in a crisis of trust. The crisis is not only between the people and the government, but also between consumers and manufacturers. Especially in the recent decade, China has faced deep consumer product quality problems. If food and other consumer products were really compared against the official standards, nearly 50% would be judged substandard. In this context, when buying products, Chinese consumers dearly need assurance. For them, a big brand, a well-known brand, or a word of mouth endorsement is a proof of quality. Thus, the advertising of Chinese brands tends to emphasize brand history or product formula history. For example, all local Chinese cosmetic brands, even some just founded day ago, either like to claim that they are partnering with a Western brand having a long history, or claim their product formulations are from some ancient Chinese recipe.

3. Regional Differences vs. Ethnicity Differences
These two big countries both are multifaceted, because they both have huge populations and large geographical size. There is no one size that can fit all of China, and the same for the USA.
In the past twenty years, China has undergone a vast transformation. Due to the inequality of the government’s open door policy, there are huge incomes gaps between city and countryside, west and east, and coast and inland. The metropolitan cities and the coastal provinces are very developed, similarly to those of developed countries like the USA.

16  Other / Off-topic / Addiction is treatable. on: October 30, 2015, 11:34:45 PM
Here are some important facts that you should know
                                                                                                             Addiction
Addiction is treatable. Helping yourself or someone through recovery takes a lot of effort, but it can be done. It is important not to give up and to realize that, you are not alone. Your hope that you or someone you know can return to a healthy, drug free life can make all the difference.

Addiction is a disease and a health problem that does not happen because someone is "bad."
Addiction runs in families, just like cancer or heart disease. If your family has a history of alcoholism or drug addiction, explain to your child that they are at a higher risk for addiction.
Many other people are facing the same problems. Substance misuse is common among teens and adults. Addiction doesn’t discriminate. It cuts across race, gender, and economic lines.
Know the warning signs and act early.

If you suspect that you or someone you know has a problem, find out now.

...if you use drugs at a high enough dose, frequently enough, and for long enough, you literally change the way the brain works.

You change the way nerve cells communicate in such a way that you develop this compulsive, out of control use despite knowing that all kinds of terrible things can happen to you, and despite even experiencing many of those things.

DO NOT USE DRUGS FOR LIFE.
17  Other / Off-topic / MCdonalds or Burger King? on: October 30, 2015, 11:50:12 AM
The company just posted its biggest quarterly sales gain in two years. While Burger King boosted North American sales by 3.6%, McDonald's plunged 3.3%

                                                                  1. Promotions and discounting.
Cash-strapped Americans are increasingly unwilling to shell out for fast food.
Burger King has lured in customers with promotions like the two for $5 sandwich deal, Businessweek writes. The brand also started selling 10 chicken nuggets for $1.49.
To help offset the discounts, Burger King raised the prices of some items.
While McDonald's offered a promotion on free coffee, the higher price of burgers is a turnoff for consumers.

                                                                         2. Simplified menu.
Burger King decided to focus on "fewer and more impactful products," chief executive Daniel Schwartz told analysts.
This strategy benefits Burger King because it simplifies operations in the kitchen, making service faster. It also means that franchisees aren't shelling out for a variety of products that potentially go to waste.
"Some products are just new permutations of things already in the kitchen," Wong writes. "The Rodeo Burger, for instance, is basically a standard burger with onion rings and barbecue sauce."
McDonald's, meanwhile is struggling with a menu that has become too complicated.
                                                                          3. Fast renovations.
Burger King is on-track to remodel 40% of its restaurants by the end of 2015, boosting sales by as much as 10%, executives say.
McDonald's, which has a larger store footprint, "appears to be undergoing renovation at a slower rate," Wong writes.
By renovating stores with a modern feel, Burger King is able to better compete with fast-casual competitors like Chipotle.
While McDonald's has fallen on hard times, the average store still makes twice as much as Burger King restaurants.
18  Other / Politics & Society / USA have found the cure of CANCER? on: October 29, 2015, 07:13:06 PM
DRUGS OF CURE CANCER EXIST MAYBE
Terminally, cancer patients have been “effectively cured” by a game-changing new class of drugs.
In one trial, more than half of patients who had just months to live saw deadly tumours shrink or completely disappear.

In recent days, the results of trials of a number of treatments which harness the body’s immune system have been announced at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s annual conference in Chicago. They show promise in the fight against skin cancer and lung disease.
But results from a slew of trials released last night at the conference showed “spectacular” effects against a multitude of cancers.

Experts said the advances suggest terminally ill patients with common cancers – including lung, bowel, ovarian and womb – could in future be cured by the therapies.
The evidence in favour of the radical drugs is so overwhelming that they could save tens of thousands of lives in the UK within a decade, it is claimed.

Cancers develop because they manage to hide from the immune system and disguise the danger they pose. Immunotherapy works by making the cancer visible again and alerting the body’s immune system to the danger,” Prof Johnston said. Patients who began some of the earliest trials 10 years ago appeared to have been cured, he added.
19  Other / Off-topic / PC or PS? on: October 29, 2015, 03:52:06 PM
PC is the way to go for the best gaming experience in my opinion.

But, Buying consoles is actually the cheapest and easiest route to take.
if you want more overall capabillity, then you shuld just get a pc. Although building your own pc gives you more choice and can potentially save you money, you can still buy a decent pre built pc setup for $1200 if you dont have pc building skills.

If you prefer sitting at your desk hunched over the keyboard, then you want a PC.
But if you prefer sitting on the couch or in the chair with a control on your hand, then you want a PS.
