41  Economy / Scam Accusations / [README] Read before making any transactions! on: July 14, 2013, 02:48:57 PM
To save there being multiple stickies at the top of the Scam Accusations forum, here's one big one.

Before you make the transaction
Read Tomatocage's guide on spotting scammers.

While making the transaction
Use an escrow (a middleman who makes sure that each party fulfilles their promise).
Popular escrows:
John K's Escrow

After you've been scammed or the transaction completed
Make sure to leave a trust rating, and make sure to make it negative if the person scammed you.
Also, if you've been scammed, make a post right here, in the Scam Accusations forum!

If you have any problems, errors or information, please make a post below and I'll be sure to take a look!
42  Other / Meta / New rank for donators of less than 10 BTC on: July 14, 2013, 02:37:36 PM
There should be a Supporter rank for those who donate any amount to the forum.
Optionally (if it isn't hard to add) it could display the amount donated, so it would read something like: Supporter [1]
43  Economy / Service Discussion / My unban appeal to TradeFortress and the users of CoinChat. on: July 13, 2013, 04:25:58 PM
If you don't know what CoinChat is and/or what my story is, this explains it in detail.
This topic is self-moderated to prevent spam and advertising of referral links. I will not use this to shine on myself in a good light.

I'm posting this here so other members of CoinChat can see it, and because TradeFortress blocked PMs from me.

I would like to be unbanned from CoinChat. Now I know I've said this 7 or so times, but please hear me out, and reply, instead of not responding like every other time.

I'm sorry for ban evading about 16 times, and for all the inconvenience I have caused.
I honestly believe that I am not a bad person, just I go a little crazy sometimes, and do things which are stupid and reckless.
However, think long term. I've contributed to CoinChat. I made bots, helped fix bugs and vulnerabilities, and provided help and support.
Give me one last chance to prove that I'm not whatever you may think I am (negatively, that is).

Thanks,
-whiskers75

Edit TradeFortress hasn't responded yet?!

44  Economy / Service Discussion / (old coinchat unban appeal, for reference) on: July 09, 2013, 04:26:07 PM
Edit: I should mention that I've found a lot of bugs with this site. In fact, I've even found one now. (Can't PM TF about it!)
My reasons for being unbanned: (edit2)
  • Yes, I was annoying, but I didn't cause any long-term harm.
  • I've done the most things for CoinChat: creating bots, reporting bugs, etc.
  • TradeFortress hasn't even bothered responding to anything I've said.
  • I've never scammed anyone, DDoS'd CoinChat, or done anything of the sort.

This post is about CoinChat.
CoinChat is a chatroom with rewards for chatting, made by TradeFortress.

The story of whiskers75, CoinChat, WhiskChat, WhiskDiceBot and all his alts
Our story starts back in the old days when CoinChat was just starting.
I was trying to make it run without crashing, and ended up learning a lot.
In my experiments, I found I could spawn in mBTC, and reported this to TradeFortress, who fixed the bug.
TradeFortress had the idea of someone coding a bot, and I liked it.
So WhiskDiceBot (a clone of SatoshiDice) was born.
Note! The incredibly-popular bot, moobot, was NOT the first bot on the scene. Mine was!
Later, I had the idea of making a fun little custom client, which was named WhiskChat.
The bot and client grew and grew.
Let's fast forward to why I was banned.
I was first demodded (I had become a moderator) for muting everyone on the chat for 30 seconds because it was too crowded.
Then, I was banned for discovering a vulnerability and using it a few times to prove that I had indeed found it.
After some thought, TradeFortress sent me a PM saying I could be unbanned if I did not do this again.
I agreed, and hopped on the chat with an alternative account. Note that TradeFortress had not woken up yet, so did not unban me!
The moderators banned me.
Again, and again. (I ban evaded A LOT)
When TradeFortress FINALLY woke up, he was mad about me "ban" evading. As such, I was not unbanned.
So, I then continued to ban evade a lot, and finally I gave up.

Weeks later, I started ban evading again.
TradeFortress decided to unban me (again) and my bot.
Later, because I was hated by the community, I was banned again.

Now? I'm still ban evading, and still going strong, especially since the release of CoinChat v2.
TradeFortress has grown tired of my constant pleading via PM to get unbanned, and so I decided to release this to the public so you can decide on what I have done.

(Edit) Why am I banned again?

All my stuff is open source.
Here are the links:

CoinChat official client with my referral link: http://coinchat.org/r:whiskers75
The horrible MooChat client: http://chromaticcreative.net/bitcoin/moobot/flatapp.php (don't use this)
I don't have source code for moobot or the MooChat client, because there is none.

46  Economy / Service Discussion / [CoinChat] whiskers75's Confessions, and Accusations [RESOLVED] on: June 28, 2013, 08:34:44 PM
I got unbanned. Topic locked.

What's this?
This is a story of how I got, and evaded, a ban on the site CoinChat.
Here it is: (This is my custom client link) http://whiskers75.github.io/whiskchat/index.html
Why post this here? Because I am not banned here, and the users of this site can congregate and discuss in this thread.
CoinChat is owned by TradeFortress.

I am banned on CoinChat, and should be..

HOW I GOT BANNED

I am banned for a number of reasons:
  • MAIN REASON: Because I used a script to mute everyone in the chat for 30 seconds to stop the spam of random talk.
  • Using a vulnerability 5 times (to prove I had found it!  Angry) not waiting for it to be fixed
  • Ban evading. REAL ban evading. Like I can just spawn new accounts out of thin air.

WHY SO MUCH EVADING?

Well, the first few reasons were to seek an audience with the moderators, which I did not get.
The other few reasons - well - I have no idea, frankly. I'm just a stupid person.7

DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD BE UNBANNED, AND WHY?

Yes, I do, because I know the system more than anyone except TradeFortress, and have made various things, including a bot and custom client.

THINGS COINCHAT DID THAT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE

  • Banning my bot because it wasn't paying out gambling wins (because they muted it, preventing it from doing so)
  • Banning me altogether. (Yes, sounds selfish, probably is)

WHO IS RIGHT?

TradeFortress, he's the most responsible admin out there.
I'm in the wrong for being a(n) [insert insult here]

End of confession.

52  Other / Beginners & Help / [Free BTC] CoinChat - Earn free bitcoins while chatting! on: May 12, 2013, 08:07:14 AM
Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with this site, just an avid user and modder of it. Smiley

In the words of the author:
Quote from: TradeFortress
CoinChat is an ad sponsored chatroom where you can earn free BTC by just chatting. Every time you say something, you have a chance to roll for up to 1 mBTC (0.001 BTC) - the chance takes in account a variety of quality and anti-gaming factors.

Create your own rooms and chat about what you like! (As long as it's not spam)

Chat to your friends in private and still earn free bitcoins! IRC style.

Non intrusive advertisements! Occasional text ads, plus text/image ads on the main room & PMs.

Tip anyone bitcoins! Hilarious comment? Helped you with a problem? Tip them a mBTC (or more!)

Of course, free BTC! It's not a day job, but if you'd do it anyways, why not earn some mBTC?

I present to you newbies CoinChat, a fun chatroom which gives out free Bitcoins. I am not the owner of this site, TradeFortress is, but I have created a very nice client for it, which can be found at whiskers75.github.io/whiskchat/index.html. And no, this is NOT a man-in-the-middle attack, as reddit and others have yelled, it's a CUSTOM CLIENT. Improved for a better chat experience.

54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / My (and many others') rant about Bitcoin-QT on: April 23, 2013, 05:24:44 PM
TLDR: Bitcoin-QT needs to make addresses and their uses clearer if it wants to be widely adopted.

How many panic posts do we get on here with a person confused with addresses thinking "they've been hacked!!!!111!!"? Quite a lot. Bitcoin-QT's "keypool" was not a good idea, and it should either be disabled by default, removed, or given a way to be managed easily, as this leads to the question: "I thought 1whiskrpGeZVd5ormX2ihifc9uB2YSz82 was my bitcoin address, but I sent BTC to it and it's gone! Why?" Bitcoin-QT does not let me see (if I wanted to) ALL my bitcoin addresses (+ keys) plus every other address I ever received BTC to or sent BTC from. More control is needed, and this leaves me firmly in the hands of Electrum and blockchain info (plus every other easy-to-manage wallet out there.)

55  Other / Beginners & Help / Watch out for Link Phishers! on: April 21, 2013, 08:47:01 AM
Before you click on ANY link on these forums, mouse over it to see where it leads. I got lead to a site demanding my mt.gox password once, luckily I spied the misshapen URL. For example, this link leads to mt.gox... or does it? (you can click that, the real URL behind that link is https://www.google.com/search?q=some%20spam%20site)
If you see any sort of link phishing like this, hit the Report to Moderator button or PM a moderator to get it removed. Also post something like "PHISHING" so people will not click on the link.

Stay safe out there. Wink
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Stop Making Altcoins - instead... on: April 20, 2013, 05:40:59 PM
There are SO MANY altcoins being created right now, it's amazing. It's almost as if we need a website to create a new coin!
Seriously though, there isn't really much point in making Litecoin forks just to get the happy warm and fuzzy of seeing 50 WhateverCoins in your wallet. Go to skude.se/BTC, the Coin Love Chest or some other free bitcoin site and maybe you'll actually earn something instead of getting worthless amounts of your new altcoin. And if that doesn't please you? Change the bitcoin source code to show BTC in mBTC and change "BTC" to "Whiskcoin" or whatever. Now you can get that warm 'n' fuzzy and still have something of value, without tiring out your poor processor. Smiley

(Side note: If you haven't already, post your bitcoin address in your signature, maybe you'll get something from a kind forum member!)
57  Other / Meta / [DENIED] Discourse! (Ruby Open Source Forum) on: April 19, 2013, 04:16:23 PM

I've seen a few people liking the idea of the Discourse forum software...
It would surely beat SMF, and be easier to write extensions for (uses Ruby).
Also, this forum looks pants.  Tongue (well, that is, compared to Discourse)

Quote from: Discourse.org
The Problem
The state of forums has been unchanged for so long that forums are considered unworkable and undesirable; few sites want forums any more because the software is so poor. The idea of free, unfettered online forums that anyone can “fork” and install is actually under threat. The dystopian future of company towns for all human discussion is all too real, because forum software is its own worst enemy at this point.

Most people, if pressured, can name at least one blog platform. But can they name even one single forum platform? Forums have had no champion that we know of. Even the better forum software is almost exclusively 100% for-pay closed source (although a rare few offer crippled open source versions), and all based on ancient, legacy PHP/MySQL code bases. (see, theymos? Wink)

The freedom to easily one-click install and run a decent forum software for a topic you love is an essential part of the wild, chaotic, vibrant “let your freak flag fly” formula of the Internet that we've always known and loved.

Forums may not be sexy, but they are a fundamental building block of all online community, and they reliably produce useful search artifacts even today. It is a testament to the power of these communities that they are thriving despite the primitive state of forum software.

Today's forums are smart people trapped in bad software.

ADVANTAGES:

- Working search  Cool
- Flowing discussion
- Looks great!

Please add any and all comments/+1's/criticisms, and hopefully we can replace this old dinosaur and get some easier, prettier forum software for a better future.  Wink Oh, and DON'T QUOTE THIS - that picture will clog the postlog (another reason to get Discourse Tongue)

58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Confirmation Request Thread on: April 17, 2013, 03:36:50 PM
Let's make a thread for people to submit unconfirmed tx's with no fee for miners to include in a block.
Please include:
  • Tx hash (linked to blockchain.info)
  • Network propagation
  • IP of relayer

59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [IDEA] What about mining on CPUs again? on: April 16, 2013, 01:18:55 PM
To give non-early adopters a chance, why not create a fork of p2pool that goes like this:
I have a pathetic amount of khash/sec. Now, some other miner has 1GHash/sec.
The system generates new blockchains - like p2pool - every day or so, and the pathetic people mine on the low difficulty blocks, and the powerful people mine the higher ones - until eventually we hit bitcoin difficulty level, and everyone is rewarded. Rinse and repeat with a new blockchain. This way, much more people can mine and power the network, get something out of it, and everybody's happy! Smiley

What do you think?
