With mining hitting new lows that we haven't seen in 6 months, at which point will you give it up?

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Dragonfly miner (256 mh eth) on: September 26, 2016, 06:08:18 AM
I came across this miner tonight in a slack channel.

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://www.cryptonyka.com/tech/8-dragonfly-ethereum-miner-d1-256mh.html&prev=search

It's called the dragonfly miner and it basically looks like they pulled 8 rx 480 chip and plugged it into a board then did some optimization.  So it seems it is not an asic but just a really huge gpu that can mine most altcoins.

Price looks to be in the range of ~$3300

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / [Warning] ETC Pool mining pays out HALF what it should on: August 03, 2016, 05:51:52 AM
I discovered unusually low payout mining ETC and did some investigation on the matter.

From what I can see if you mine ETC you will be earning roughly HALF of what you should on average against the difficulty.  I will provide some examples

--------------

Nano is reputable pool so they should be a good benchmark to use.

using this account as example http://etc.nanopool.org/account/0x77b5f7633313bec7dba42c63ca2f22afd179791a#workersTab

1558 MH for the average over 6 hours (time of this writing)

23.25 ETC per day shown

but if you calculate against the difficulty of 15.059 TH you should earn 44.69 ETC per day average

You can check it at https://www.whattomine.com/coins/162-etc-ethash?utf8=%E2%9C%93&hr=1558&br=5.0&d=15051273568360.0&p=220.0&fee=0.0&er=0.00501003&cost=0.1&hcost=0.0&btc=537.002&commit=Calculate

---------------

The stats on nano appear to be accurate, at first I ignored them as I thought it was just incorrect.  But after some payouts they matched up to the charts they predict you will earn over a certain amount of time.  So I went back to mining ETH and I earn as I should, given the difficulty.

So what do you guys think is happening here?  Is a 51% attack making blocks invalid or is it some other issue?  I doubt the pools are doing something shady as nano has been reliable.

Edit: Only nano was affected, they have resolved the issue and made back payments for the missing funds.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [Help!] Ether miner freezes computer and graphics on close on: May 25, 2016, 03:22:20 PM
EDIT: Solved.  unplugged dvi and used remote by teamviewer, I can only view the screen 640x480 but I can close the app without hangups now.

-------------------
I just put together a small rig and the miner works fine running it but if I go to close the miner it locks the computer up and I have to force a shutdown.  I think it is a graphical issue of some sort.  I have 2 R9 290 reference card hooked up to pci-e x1 powered risers and it is older lga 775 hardware with win 8.1.  On my other 775 machine with 2x hd 7950's I do not have the issue and works flawlessly.

I have the machine using video from one of the cards, I think the issue goes away if I force video through integrated hardware but I have no control over the cards, so I cant see temps, change fan speed, or undervolt in msi afterburner.

Hardware specs

Intel E7500 cpu
4 gm ddr 2 ram
250 gb hdd
Intel DQ45CD

R9 290 reference cards 4gb

powered usb risers 16x to 1x

amd 15.12 drivers

--------

Hopefully someone has experience with this kind of issue, I would be happy enough to just use integrated graphics but gain control of the gpu cards if someone knows how to do that.
