1  Bitcoin / Mining / Starting a Lan pool mining compared to using bitcoind on: May 02, 2011, 11:26:02 AM
Hi I am curious, does running a local pool server distributing out 'shares' more efficient compared to using the standard bitcoind? I noticed the increase shares generation per gpu worker in a mining pool compared to solo mining using bitcoind. I was wondering if this idea of breaking the work into smaller shares like what mining pools are doing could be applied to solo mining if let say I have 6 gpu and more running. Would using normal bitcoind in solo mining cause the same work to be processed redundantly? For example, I recalled slush mentioned the need to register each gpu into individual workers on the website.

Could using remote mining server tool like that developed by puddinpop be the way to go?
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Solo Mining Question (bitcoin -server) on: April 21, 2011, 02:21:58 AM
I have a question about running bitcoin in server mode. I have about 3 computers running as miner and currently I have allocated 1 to be the server. Would running this be the same as running 3 individual bitcoin in server mode for each computers? Reason being that they remain independent and should anyone go down ie. the server, the rest will still be able to mine. I am more concern about the robustness of the setup rather then the convenience of check 3 separate wallets.

Cheers!
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Help dual 6990 card not able to run with poclbm on: April 16, 2011, 12:08:20 PM
Hi I just bought 2 6990 cards and installed on windows 7 with catalyst 11.4 preview. Running the gui poclbm latest version, the speed shown in the summary page remains connected. I have tried 11.3 and still the same. It works when 1 card is installed and doesn't for all gpu cores when 2 cards are installed. Anyone having the same issue?

Cheers!
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Multiple instance of bitcoin with the same wallet on: April 02, 2011, 05:49:20 PM
Hi is it possible for multiple instance of bitcoin with the same wallet connected to the nextwork? The purpose is for the mining rig to run and once in a while spend the bitcoin on another workstation.
5  Bitcoin / Mining / MSI 790Fx-GD70 Mining Rig issue on: March 30, 2011, 01:13:28 AM
Hi I recently just acquired a 2nd hand MSI 790Fx-GD70 with a 550be and 2 x 5970 for the purpose of a dedicated mining rig. The setting up process got me confused, reason being that both poclbcm and the gui version doesn't load completely after I set up the windows 7 OS and ati drivers. I tested both 11.2 and 11.3 and the issue is both miners will refuse to mine, the poclbcm will show a blank cmd prompt even with the correct arguments used previously, and the gui version will load to the sys tray and not respond to both left or right click. I also reformatted the OS 3 times and remounted the hardware everytime before I reformat. I disabled xfire and ensured that I got both cards initialized by connecting them to my LCD panel. As a last resort I connected the xfire cable, activated xfire in CCC and unplug the monitor cable from the slave card. It mysteriously worked, the performance wasn't that good as the hash/s will fluctuate wildly.

Does anyone have the same issue? Is it cuz I missed out any AMD drivers ? My main working rig has no issue running intel and I haven't touched AMD for almost 3 chip generations. I was wondering if I missed out any chipset drivers that I should have installed. Also is it a 790fx chipset issue? I plugged the cards into the 1st and 3rd slot to ensure air flow, I also wanted to acquire more 2nd hand 5970 but will have to put it on hold before this issue is solved.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I spent the entire night on this issue and only had 2 hrs of rest before work. o.o

Rig details as follows:
AMD 550BE + MSI 790Fx-GD70
4 gb ram team xtreme
some WD blue hdd
antec HCP 1200 psu
2 x 5970
6  Bitcoin / Mining / How to monitor bitcoin client remotely on: March 21, 2011, 06:16:31 AM
Hi,

I am wondering how do you guys monitor the mining process over the internet (from work or school) of the computer mining at home?

Pool Mining gives a friendly web interface to check on the progression, however how about solo mining?

I have tried teamviewer but it didn't respond and now I am worried at work that my mining rig has hung at home.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of tweetmypc, however the latest version does not support screenshots
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Is mining still profitable? on: March 11, 2011, 06:16:26 AM
Hi fellow miners,

I bought a HD 5970 recently and was waiting for this weekend to get the rest of the hardware needed to complete a mining platform. However with the increase of 37% difficulty recently, I am hesitant now if I should continue with the project. My worries are bounded by the following considerations:

Electric Bill: 0.1903 usd/kwh
Hashing power: 5970 + 5850 = 600Mhash/s + 240 Mhash/s = 840 Mhash/s
Cost of Rig: 680 usd

Note that I am living in Singapore and the above rates are based on current exchange rates.

Please advice if I should proceed. Based on using the online bitcoin calculator. I will hit negative income on the 5/12/11. Will that be accurate?
