21  Economy / Service Discussion / FrozenCPU accepts BTC on: March 11, 2014, 01:34:55 AM
Not sure if this is the correct subforum or not. I also searched but didnt see a thread on it.

Looks like FrozenCPU.com now accepts bitcoin! I just bought a crimp tool from them and paid in BTC through bitpay.

Just thought Id share Smiley

Note: I am not affiliated in anyway with FrozenCPU.
22  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin in a storefront on: January 07, 2014, 05:32:32 PM
How can Bitcoin be used in a standard, 'brick and mortar' storefront? Are there any services available for this yet, other than a laptop/smartphone with a bitcoin wallet on it?

A friend of mine who is a software developer recently mentioned to me that he would like to build a cheap point-of-sale system for local merchants in our area. A number of places here are cash only because they cant afford to process credit cards. I told him about Bitcoin but I dont know of any existing services that could be used for this.

Thoughts?
23  Economy / Computer hardware / [END] [WTS] (3) 5850s (1) 5770 on: January 05, 2014, 12:45:34 AM
Ive got some video cards Id like to part with. They were bought used and were used to mine Bitcoins and now Litecoins. Im tired of the noise and am selling one of my rigs. The cards are 3 Sapphire 5850 reference cards and 1 5770 reference. One of the cards has had its fan replaced and one is held together with tape. The screw posts broke from me opening the card to clean out dust so many times. Temps have been kept at 70C or less for the entire time Ive owned them.

Looks like 5850s are going for ~$40ish on ebay, not sure about the 5770. Im also not sure what shipping would be yet. If there is interest I can get pics.

Make me an offer in BTC, LTC, FTC, or XMP, otherwise they will go to ebay.

thanks
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Supporting the network with multiple wallets on: December 16, 2013, 06:39:44 PM
So running the bitcoin wallet 24/7 is good for the network, right? It makes since because this is a P2P network and if all users closed their wallets the network would not exist.

My question is, is there much point in having multiple computers on the same local network all running a wallet?
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is Bitcoin video on: December 16, 2013, 03:13:19 PM
Im looking for a video I can show to people new to Bitcoin that will explain what it is and how to use it on a very simple level. Most videos I see online are how to mine or the technical side of crypto's.
Id like to find something more like whats on the Bitcoin.org website but that answers more questions (how, why, purpose, etc)

Does anyone have a video in mind that you have used in the past with good results? Not everyone who uses Bitcoin needs to be technical and thats key to getting it accepted everywhere.

Thanks in advance!
26  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS D-Link 7 Port USB 2.0 hub on: September 08, 2013, 04:44:47 PM
I bought three D-Link usb hubs for use with USB miners but have since decided to go another route so Im selling 2 (possibly all 3) here. I can post up some pics if requested.
The hubs are brand new, never opened and can run 6 Block Erupters each. Ive seen some people run 7 but I think thats pulling too much current.
These hubs also work fine with a raspberry pi.

Im asking .3BTC each, shipped to cont US.

Escrow is an option if you set it up and pay any/all fees.
27  Bitcoin / Mining support / 7950 will not overclock with more than 2 cards installed on: August 10, 2013, 08:44:58 PM
I'm actually mining litecoins before you ask why I'm still mining on GPUs.
I have 2 identical rigs that have been running for months with few issues. For some reason one will not allow my 7950s to overclock above the '2d clock speed' of like 150mhz core and 300mhz mem. I get no error or problems other than a very low hash speed.
Specs are 4 Sapphire 7950s per rig, cgminer on windows 7. 12.8 drivers

After messing with it some today it seems like as long as I only have 2 cards all is well (any 2 using any riser in any slot) but as soon as a third or fourth card is plugged in the extras will not overclock.

I asked this on the litecoin forum but there is more traffic here and I'm hoping for a better response.

Any ideas?
28  Bitcoin / Mining support / Mining internet bandwidth usage? on: August 06, 2013, 01:04:40 AM
I know there was talk in the past about internet bandwidth while mining, hence the reason for new protocols. How much bandwidth does, say 1TH/s require even with Stratum/GBT? 1MB/s enough? 5MB/s? 20MB/s? etc....

On a slightly different note, how much data is transferred on a monthly basis for say 1TH/s?

1TH/s is just because its a nice round number on the high end of most users. Basically the max a user would use at this point...
29  Bitcoin / Group buys / [OPEN] Group Buy Bitfury 400GH/s Miner Oct Delivery - US Hosted on: August 05, 2013, 11:57:48 PM
Hey all!

Im a share holder of Coinhoarder's 7 Avalon group buy and am trying to model this after his professional/transparent approach. (I Hope he doesnt mind Smiley) After hearing about Bitfury's working prototype and seeing the August delivery machines sell out in 24 hours I decided to start this group buy and get on board!

Im putting this group buy together for the Bitfury 400GH/s mining hardware. The units for August delivery are already sold out so this buy will be for October delivery. As soon as enough is collected I will place an order. If there is enough interest/capital a second unit can be purchased and then a third and so forth until either there is not enough funds for a final unit or I decide the power/space requirements are too much for me to handle. Any left over funds will be refunded.

All units ordered will be hosted in my home/and or in a secondary location if need be, however this has its drawbacks as it is 30+min away. The advantage I have over some others is my electricity is cheaper (around $0.06-0.07/kw). I also live in an area that does not experience extreme summer heat. Today reached a high of 81F with last nights low being 53F. This means A/C will not be needed as much to keep temps under control which also means less electrical cost. I estimate electrical cost to be about $20/month per 400GH/s unit. (note: this also is calculated based on Bitfury's estimate of 400watts per unit)

Each Bitfury is currently listed at $8000 for October delivery (https://megabigpower.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=53) so at the current rate of about $100/BTC we need about 80BTC for our first unit.

Terms
What you're buying:
You are buying shares of one or more 400GH/s Bitfury miners.
1 BTC invested = 1/X portion of the profits from all mining units combined
(X being the total amount invested on all units)
Minimum investment of 3BTC at this time. (I may lower this later.)

Electrical cost will be subtracted from the months end dividend payments using the latest Mt Gox rate. Electrical cost includes the cost to run any mining units bought by the group as well as the use of A/C and/or fans to regulate heat.

I will charge a 3% hosting fee that will be deducted at month end as well as a 2% pool fee, unless an alternative is decided on by the group (P2pool is an option)

I can not and will not be held responsible for things out of my control. This includes such things as difficulty increase, BTC prices, Bitfury delays or failing to produce anything at all, etc. I will do anything in my power to make this successful for all involved but realize that things can happen. I plan on being a share holder as well and want this to ROI as much as the rest of you. This is risky, there are lots of new and powerful ASIC devices coming on the market, its very hard to get a reading on them all and guess what the difficulty might be. Bitcoin price is also an unknown and can not be accurately predicted. Do your own calculations and invest appropriately.

Dividends will be paid monthly but can possibly be done on a bi-weekly bases depending on the total number of investors. Realize that I have a full-time job outside of the Bitcoin world so my time must be split.

You have the option to sell your shares to anyone at anytime, however I reserve the right to remove this option and or modify it as needed.

Who am I?
Ive been a member of this community since July 2012. I might not post as much as some but I like to think my posts have some value rather than "I agree!", "BTC PWNS!!!!", etc. I do spend a lot of time reading and tweaking my mining rigs. I started out with a single HD4850 mining and quickly bought some 5850's to convert my existing HTPC and main desktop both to dedicated mining rigs. Those both paid for themselves in a few months time and allowed me to buy some FPGAs. From there my ASIC adventure started... I traded my FPGAs in for bASIC's which ended badly. I have since switched my two rigs over to Litecoin, built two additional Litecoin rigs, and ordered ASICMiner USB Block Erupters from groupbuys here in the forum as well as shares of some Avalons. I wanted to buy BitFury did not see many options and thought I might be able to do better. So here I am... Im willing to answer questions as I know this is my first group buy.

30  Bitcoin / Mining / bad video cards on: July 29, 2013, 11:31:45 PM
Ive got two video cards that have stopped working correctly. They lock up the system nearly as soon as cgminer starts. The cards are only a few months old, whats the process to return them under warranty? Im sure others have been down this road, im just looking for advice. The cards are Sapphire and were purchased from newegg.com.

EDIT: cards are Sapphire 7950's. Also I have replaced the stock thermal paste with AS5, will this void the warranty?
31  Bitcoin / Pools / P2Pool Question on: May 08, 2013, 07:36:37 PM
Quick simple question here...

The idea of P2Pool is that each miner is his own 'pool' correct? I know that may not be the correct terms, but each miner runs its own p2pool software and bitcoin client, right?

Other miners can then also connect to this p2pool you setup and mine like any other pool, correct? Or am I way off base here?
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / can mine BTC but issues with LTC on: April 07, 2013, 08:26:31 PM
I have a computer thats having problems with litecoin mining on one GPU. The specs are as follows

GPU0: 5850 connected via riser
GPU1: 5850 connected via riser
GPU2: 5770 connected via riser
GPU3: 5850 plugged directly into motherboard
1050watt PSU
OS: BAMT setup to mine litecoins with CGMiner

I can mine bitcoins 24/7 for weeks on end with zero issues with this system, however when mining litecoin GPU3 dies within the first hour after starting to mine. Ive tried reducing intensity and the overclock to stock speeds, neither helped.

Any ideas?
33  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Rigs run on 220v on: April 05, 2013, 03:20:23 PM
Those of you who run your rigs on 220v, how do you do it? I know some servers are run on 220v and use a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) which is like a power strip. These however are very expensive!

Do you create your own cables/outlets? or am I missing something?
34  Economy / Digital goods / Ingress Activation Code on: March 06, 2013, 10:26:54 PM

36  Bitcoin / Mining support / Moved GPUs rig, now unstable on: November 19, 2012, 12:45:26 AM
I moved one of my mining rigs to better heat the house and now it will lockup all the time. Before the move I never had a single issue with this rig but now it locks up a few times a day. The only change I made was I moved it from a mess of GPUs laying out of a half open case into a plastic milk crate. Nothing else changed.
Running bamt 0.5 from a USB drive.
3 5850s .

Any thoughts?
37  Economy / Digital goods / SOLD [FS] Tribes Ascend Game Coupon on: November 08, 2012, 07:44:13 PM
Ive got a game coupon for Tribes Ascend, it came with a recent purchase. I dont plan on ever playing the game and would like to sell it for BTC. Newegg claims its worth $60 but Im willing to take much less. Anyone willing to give me 2BTC for it?

38  Economy / Service Discussion / Can I use my own Yubikey on Mt Gox? on: October 12, 2012, 10:13:53 PM
I just bought a Yubikey from www.yubikey.com and tried to add it to my Mt Gox account but I cant seem to figure out how. It looks like they want you to buy a key from them... Am I missing something?
39  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Horsepower for ASIC on: September 13, 2012, 11:53:12 PM
I read a comment https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=109297.msg1188865#msg1188865 that made me think...

How much computer power is an ASIC going to require? My thought is your internet will be the bottleneck, as fast as it can download your computer should be able to feed to to the miner... I would think. Is the data from pools compressed any and therefor require the cpu to uncompress before sending to a miner (GPU, FPGA, ASIC)

Thoughts?
40  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Raspberry Pi FPGA mining, how to compile BFGMiner? on: September 11, 2012, 12:35:54 AM
I recently got a raspberry pi and would like to run my ModMiner Quad from it. It is recommended to run the MMQ with the latest BFGMiner, however it has not been compiled for the pi. Can someone post a simple howto on this? I have never compiled anything in linux before and am newish to the command line in general. I tried google and failed.... I cant imagine its too hard to do, I just need some help.
