1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Generate Bitcoin address from Ethereum address via Metamask on: February 21, 2024, 08:09:50 PM
Hey guys,

Long time since I have posted. I'm stuck here with the fact that last year, I connected my Metamask wallet (on Ethereum) with a web-3 website that used the Ethereum address (or its private key) to create a Bitcoin address. That way, I could use MM on Bitcoin.
Now, today you can use these so called "snaps" on MM but that wasn't what I used. It was in the beginning of the Ordinals, think early last year.
Appreciate if anyone can remember that website, even if it doesn't exist anymore  Shocked
2  Economy / Web Wallets / Sweeping private key - blockchain.info on: March 09, 2017, 02:41:37 PM
Hi everyone,

I thought I could sweep a private key (encrypted or not) into a blockchain.info wallet. I've been trying to find this feature today but the only thing I can do is importing. Could anyone guide me please?

Thanks  Wink

Edit: I found this: "If you import a private key with funds, you'll be asked to sweep the address and transfer them to the default category in your wallet" - so I guess it depends when there are bitcoins linked to the private key or not.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cryptocurrency spreadsheet on: February 02, 2017, 07:29:43 PM
Hi all,

Sorry if this was posted in the wrong subforum.
I'm looking for some help with my cryptocurrency spreadsheet. I have made a few columns (cryptocurrency/price/number) and I like to have the "live" price of the currency or token via API calls.

I already found this for bitcoin: =importdata("https://api.bitcoinaverage.com/ticker/EUR/last")
Now I want to find API calls for the other crypto's in my bag. I tried coinmarketcap, polo, kraken, but I don't understand much as I'm not a coder.
Many thanks  Wink

Hi all,

As a test, I would like to mine coins on Testnet via the QT wallet. However, I can't seem to find the correct command to start mining via the console. Anyone has an idea?

I also update my conf file like:
testnet=1
GEN=1
rpcuser=test
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=30200

Many thanks!

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Wallets and (un)compressed keys on: December 04, 2015, 10:51:42 AM
Hello everyone,

Can someone list me what (desktop) wallets use uncompressed private keys (and which ones use compressed pk's)?
If I'm correct, a client that uses uncompressed keys (Electrum) can't import compressed keys, right? because you will end up with a different bitcoin address.

Thanks ;-)

I'm testing Bitmessage with Thunderbird at the moment but I can't find out if my messages are encrypted or not when sending to another BM address. Does anyone have experience with this?

12  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Testnet wallets for classroom on: August 19, 2015, 02:19:34 PM
Hi all,

Can I copy some contents of my Appdata folder /bitcoin/testnet and paste it in the directories of other pc's that have a fresh install of Bitcoin Core (Testnet)? It's just that I want to avoid waiting the whole day before the blockchain has been downloaded.

Many thanks  Wink

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Changing file name wallet.dat on: July 21, 2015, 10:44:54 AM
Hi all,

Is there a way to change the filename of wallet.dat? I'm worried about some new malware that's designed to steal wallet files. There's a script (bitcoin wallet stealer) I noticed on a forum that is looking for that specific file:

Code:
// Check if wallet has been already stolen (to avoid duplicates)
  if not(RegCurrentValue = RegValue) then
  begin
    try
      // Generate path to Bitcoin wallet file
      if Win32MajorVersion >= 6 then
        // Microsoft Windows Vista and newer
        Path := ExpandFileName(AppDataPath + '\..\Roaming\Bitcoin\wallet.dat')
      else

Hey guys,

I just saw a darknet vendor at TheRealDeal that sells the btcTalk DB. His post is dated June 15nd 2015:

Guess it's time change your passwords? Are the admins aware of this?
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / "cannot open wallet dump file" on: June 08, 2015, 11:54:29 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm on Testnet and trying the dumpwallet command.

When I type:

dumpwallet wallet.txt

I get this error: "cannot open wallet dump file (code -8)"

Any ideas why?  Huh

Thanks!

Edit: It worked when I type: dumpwallet "C:\Users\myusername\Documents\Bitcoin\dumpwallet.txt"   Cheesy
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / private keys + listaddressgroupings on: June 02, 2015, 11:50:14 AM
Hi guys,

I have a question about an alternative backup or cold storage method:

Is it correct that the command "listaddressgroupings" lists all bitcoin addresses that have UTXO in the wallet?

When I perform a "dumpprivkey" for each address that's listed after doing "listaddressgroupings", can I use that privkey as a back-up? (e.g. write it down on a note and put it in a safe). And delete without any risk the wallet itself? I suppose yes...

ps: I know I can export a wallet backup too but I'm looking for several backup possibilities.

Thanks  Wink
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Does this exist? BTC wallet type bank card (no usb) on: May 13, 2015, 12:57:18 PM
Hi folks,

I just read an article that using apps on your smartphone takes 20 seconds more time then just use your bank card to pay in a store. I was wondering if there are any developers that are working on a hardware wallet with smartcard with exact the same size of a bank card that could be used in a ATM or terminal at the store. So no USB wallets.
20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Transaction type on: March 25, 2015, 03:22:08 PM
What type of transaction is this?

e.g.

bitcoin addres 1 (1 BTC - Output)
bitcoin addres 1 (2 BTC - Output)
bitcoin addres 1 (3 BTC - Output)   >>>>> bitcoin address 2 (receiver) (Spent)   7,9999 BTC
bitcoin addres 1 (1 BTC - Output)
bitcoin addres 1 (2 BTC - Output)

I've seen on the left side many different addresses sending to one addresses but I've seen never the same addresses at the sender side.
ps: I'm not a blockchain pro  Shocked
