2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Coming back to mining - Dual 5970 + GTX280 on: October 02, 2011, 09:17:20 AM
So at £0.1849 (GBP) (18.49 pence) per Kw/h, is it going to be worth mining again?

I stopped a few months back when the fan on a 5970 literally exploded in the housing, but I'd like to start again. I'm estimating usage at around 830watts (Very rough approx of 700Watts for 2 5970's and 130 watts for a 280).
3  Economy / Marketplace / 5970 - Looking for offers (still awaiting RMA proceedings) on: April 24, 2011, 08:11:15 PM

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / 5970 - Extremely loud fan rattle on: March 31, 2011, 10:25:43 PM
So, I've been mining for a few weeks solid now and I think it just took it's toll on one of my 5970's. The fan is making a god awful noise (I can hear it downstairs, through closed doors) at all speeds: 100% actually hurts my ears and is comparable to a hammer drill.

Is there anyway of fixing this or is it going to be a warrant claim?
5  Bitcoin / Mining / Afterburner - 5970 - Memory clocks lower than 500Mhz? on: March 30, 2011, 12:04:48 AM
Can't seem to get afterburner to allow me to clock my memory lower than 500Mhz, although in CCC I can clock it down to 300Mhz (And shave 6c off my VDDC temps too).

Any info greatly appreciated, and just to clarigy my config file is set to allow custom overclocking:

UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Direct pool payout to paypal..... on: March 29, 2011, 11:35:02 PM

7  Economy / Marketplace / [s]To any audiophiles - Grado GS1000i Phones for sale[/s] - SOLD on: March 26, 2011, 02:31:24 PM
Howdy,

So I take it if your reading this your serious about audio. Well, I have a pair of Grado GS1000i Statement Series headphones for sale but they need a minor repair: The right ear cup has quite literally fallen off the the headband, and I do not want to attempt a repair. This has in no way affected the audio characteristics of these phones, and except for this they are in immaculate condition. They shoule be easy to repair with a Metal-Metal Epoxy Resin, but I am not the neatest of persons when it comes to making something look as good as new which is the reason I have not repaired them myself.

Right now I have not put a price on them so I am open to any offers, but please refrain from offering stupidly low values (I'm more than certain you know how much these are worth  Cool). I will be taking pictures as soon as I get access to a high res camera (Next few hours) so please expect them at some point today. For now please view this video I took a while back to wet your appetite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9wx_uXlrCs

I am more than happy to post anywhere in the UK for free (Or you can collect, I live in Hull), I will consider posting to the EU too via DHL or a similar courier but postage costs will need to be paid for by you. Now I have never shipped anything to the USA but I can't imagine it to be spectacularly hard so please contact me (In here or by PM: My private email is seddonj@hotmail.co.uk) if you are interested.

Well that's it for now folks, and as I say I will post up pictures ASAP.  Cheesy

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Cleaning up Market on: March 19, 2011, 01:01:23 PM
Over the past week there has been a rather large influx of Chinese "Students" trying to hawk their crap in Market, with 90% of the posts now consisting of "Want perfect figure - We show you" or "Sucky sucky five dollar". Okay maybe that was a little racist right there but how are us genuine users supposed to sell/buy things amidst all these bull crap posts?

I'll make a poll at some point to get people's opinions. I think at a minimum we need to enforce some kind of "rule" that limits people posting things like "Please donate us money for me to explain what I ate this morning".

This thread has created some valuable discussion towards the "Moderation"/"Management" of the Market section. Please feel free to give your two cents towards if and how Market should be changed, or why it should remain as it is. As it stands the poll is quite limiting, so please expand your opinion in the comments if you think more than one option applies (Is there a way to allow multi-choice in the poll?).

If it turns out that there is a demand for change, then it may be good to move this onto a higher power in the forums to see what they have to say (If your reading this, let us know what you think to restructuring Market).
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / No email updates from the forum? on: March 16, 2011, 09:03:31 PM
Does this forum not send updates for topic replies at the current moment in time? I have it set to do so in my account settings, but I cannot see a link to subscribe to a thread. Any help appreciated.

13  Bitcoin / Mining / Dual 5970 - Unstable Hash rate - Was stable for 27 hours on: March 14, 2011, 06:02:48 PM
So my system overheated this afternoon whilst I was out and shut itself down. Now when I start mining, the display driver will crash and then recover but my miner will happily chug along. However, the stability has now decreased and the amount of load on the GPU's is varying quite a bit.

Now I know what your thinking, it's probably still overheating. Well it's not any more, I have a desk fan drawing air from an open window directly into the side of my case and onto the cards. I have quite litterally shaved off 20c from my previous temps.

I can't find a reason for this behaviour, I've attached some screen shots for you to look at. Maybe one of you will spot something.

Thanks  Grin
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin-GBP - How to? on: March 14, 2011, 04:00:13 AM
Anyone know of a good way to convert directly between BTC and BGP (Aka Sterling)?

Any non direct methods very much appreciated too, such as converting to USD and over to GBP? I understand there is something in the works along these lines, info of which can be found here:

15  Bitcoin / Mining / High Hash Rigs - Solo or Pool? on: March 14, 2011, 02:16:34 AM
What's the general consensus on solo vs pooled mining in regards to rigs that have a high hashing capacity?

I've been mining as part of Slush's pool for 26 hours now and I'm currently £1.90 above the cost of electricity (£4.10), but if my machine stands a good chance of regularly hitting the 50BTC jackpot every day or two, wouldn't this be a much better way to mine?

I'm very new to mining so any insights you have a very much appreciated  Roll Eyes
16  Bitcoin / Mining / 5970 users - Avg Mhash/s on: March 13, 2011, 07:54:54 PM
Just looking to get some figures on the performance people are seeing with the 5970. I have two in crossfire (Should I take them out of xfire seen as the miner's can use the cores directly) and I'm getting around 800Mhash/s to 1100Mhash/s.

I have my cards overclocked from 725Mhz to 770Mhz, with the fans at 80% temps are in the mid 80's (c). I think I could probably push them quite a bit further without voltage tweaks, so if any one has done this any info you have would be great. Also any special tweaks for the poclbm miner when used on the 5970 would be nice, if there are any.
17  Bitcoin / Mining / Solo Mining - How do I know when I stirke gold? on: March 13, 2011, 05:00:35 AM
Howdy,

So I've just got into bit mining and up to now have only participated in group mining. I can't seem to find much info on solo mining however and would like to get any info/tips that you guys might have.

Thanks
18  Bitcoin / Mining / Starting out in bitcoin - Dual 5970... on: March 12, 2011, 08:58:43 PM
So I'm just starting out in the Bitcoin mining adventure, and I just need a little help starting. I have a dual 5970 system and I have a couple of questions:

)From what I have seen, most people like to use Ubuntu for the Bitcoin OS. Is there a windows option? I am comfortable with Ubuntu but a windows version would be more suitable for me.
)Is there an x64 GPU application? I run an x64 windows OS and as such it will not load the generic client (Invalid executable).

Any other basic starting info is greatly appreciated.
