I think I have a simple question.  My bitcoin client seems to be able to create bitcoin addresses.  Do those addresses my client creates correspond to addresses on the blockchain, or do they only exist on my computer?  And if my own addresses do correspond with addresses on the blockchain, how does the blockchain "know" when my bitcoin client creates an address?

Hello All, I am new to bitcoin and trying to understand it better.  I had been reading a five-part article called, (I think), Bitcoin Explained which was offered on a blog named Onus Probandy.  I really felt my understanding progress thanks to that article, but before I could finish it both the article and the blog seemed to disappear from the Internet.   Hopefully that article still exists somewhere, can any kind person point me toward it?
