1  Economy / Speculation / New bitcoin nodes popping up in Asia on: January 02, 2012, 05:40:50 PM
I've been keeping my eye on this site http://www.blockchain.info/nodes-globe?series=48hrs where they show the active nodes in the past 48hrs for a few months now.

What I've been seeing is that there are many new nodes appearing in Asia in the past two months where it was nearly completely dark.

Will 2012 be the year that the giants like China and India among other countries start embracing bitcoin? One thing for sure is that the news of bitcoin is definitely spreading into these area.
The bars at Beijing, Seoul, and Taipei have been growing fast and small bars have been appearing all over the Southeast Asia as well as India.

It will be really exciting to see new exchanges and services appear in these area in 2012.

4  Other / Meta / Allowing alt chains to leverage forum readership @ bitcointalk? on: August 26, 2011, 06:43:28 PM
Why are we allowing this?  Huh

Seems like the same logic as Ixcoin wanting a booth at bitcoin conf, yet we even have created a dedicated section to ease the gathering of initial mining network power by using our forum traffic as a leverage.

Just doesn't seem right to me. Alt blockchains are fine and all, but should the bitcoin community really accomodate them with such openess when they are aiming directly to compete for the same hashing power from miners that support bitcoin network? Afterall, the true value of bitcoin comes from the size of it's network and it's participants imo.

It's one thing to be open to ideas of new competing blockchains, but another to give them a forum for discussion under our own roof and letting them leverage our readership for release. I'm curious how the community feels about this.

6  Other / Politics & Society / Wikileaks. A chance for your Bitcoin to shine. on: June 29, 2011, 03:32:31 AM
Wikileaks posted this page up on their website today to bring more awareness to their ongoing payment processor problem. They have been under the scrutiny from the payment processors for 6 months now and I think bitcoin community can step up and answer the call and show support for Wikileaks. No matter what political background you are, I'm sure most can agree that more transparency in government activity in current times is for the benefit of everyone.

Wikileaks put themselves in the firing lane to be the eyes, ears, and voice of the common people and it's important that we show them that we appreciate and need their service now more than ever through our donations. I cannot think of a better place to donate your discretionary coins and it's great way to show that in truly FREE economy, money will go where they provide the services that people demand.

9  Bitcoin / Mining / I wish I never started mining on: June 04, 2011, 09:50:50 AM
So another huge price jump today. I really really really wish I had not spent all the extra money in mining equip and just bought btc instead straight up early this year. The difference is painful to think about. Not to mention that each difficulty jump is another step towards the end of mining altogether.

This is just me spending my dollar on btc equipment for mining only also. Imagine if you cashed out and reinvested mined bitcoins to buy equipment along the way, you would have lost out on much bigger chunk of your profit and more.

I was making amends with my decisions in the past, but I'm thinking now that this mistake will someday be realized in millions lost 20 years down the line and maybe more. I'm also kickin myself in the ass for not buying when it was at $7 with everything I had liquid. I wish I did it when it was at $.5, but I didn't have the balls or the vision.

It's does makes me happy the price is up, but I know that the difficulty will jump and my equipment will be making that much less btc very shortly reducing it's effectiveness once again in btc production. Sure it might be bringing in same dollar amount if price goes up keeping it in the profit range a bit longer, but you will never make as many btc as you would have if you just bought outright at this pace. I would rather have more btc for my money for the long haul rather than get a trickles of it which still will amount to less at the end. Had I known that buying btc outright will net me more btc overall, I would have just purchased instead as btc is an investment for me anyways.

Ok I'm done ranting. I guess it sucks how I can't just be 100% happy about the price going up without knowing my mining equipment will become less effective proportionally because of it for btc production. YAY to breaking the $10, $15 barrier though!
