Hi everyone,

just thought I'd share my experience I had with my setup. Running 6 Powercolor 270X PCS+ on two PSUs (700W coolermaster each, single rail) I was running out of pci-e plugs. I power 6 of them through the h61 pro btc board, no need for poweerd risers here. 2 cards + mainboard + cpu on psu1 (roughly 5xx watt) and 4 cards on the 2nd psu (<600W).

here is my rig (I added the brown cable after this for less load on the molex string)



I used one molex-y-cable to split one molex so i can have 4 molex-to-pci-e adapters for my two leftover cards. Turned out this y-cable is that poor that it melted. I was lucky to find it before it burnt further. This is how I found it while running:





It literally melted onto my bed.

This setup was for testing purpose - I don't run my rigs usually in my bed. I like to sleep there  

PS: how can I rescale that imagesize? [ img=200x200 ] didn't work

This cable has a thinner 12V diameter than my psu has (like half of it), so it runs hotter on with same Ampere. Anyone can advise me some good molex-y-cables?

Hi folks,

I found many threads and subreddits where people came across my kind of errors, but none of the fixes applied so far to me. Thats where I come to ask the pros  

Hardware:

Litecoin BAMT 1.5 (right now running with vertminer instead of cgminer, didnt change my problems..)
Asrock H61 BTC PRO
G1610 Celeron dual core
corsair 4GB cms3
6x 270X Powercolor PCS+
2x PSU Coolermaster B700
AData 16GB USB
LAN connection

GPU connections:

I have 1 GPU 16x-16x risered (non powered) and 4 GPUs with 1x-16x powered risers (although "not needed as advertised"   )

Power connections:

5 cards:
PSU1: mobo (24pin, 8pin, 2x 4pin molex), gpu 1+2, + all powered risers.
PSU2: gpu 2+3+4

Made a ground connection to be safe. The 2nd PSU poweres on via a pin shortage (green and black, PSU_ON and GROUND). Works perfectly so far.

awkward:
When not using powered risers (but connecting the two molex pins on the mobo) all the cards with 1x risers won't be recognized by the OS/BIOS. When turning the machine on the one working card will spin its fan, stop the fan, spin it up again and boot. It will hash. But the other fans just sit spinning from the beginning, not bein recognized.
When connecting the powered risers to the PSU they will behave like card 1, get recognized and start hashing.

My problem:

Not running stable. SGminer or Cgminer (both) freeze within hours, sometimes minutes. The OS is still responsive, but cgminer freezes, I can log in and watch the screen etc. When lookin in htop ("taskmanager") one of two CPU cores is running 100%. I cannot kill the process (even sudo kill -9 cgminer won't work) and cannot reboot. I need to hardreset at this point (psu). Best I made was a 10hours run.

What I tried:

disconnection card after card.
I had a double riser (riser into riser) and eliminated that error, can't tell the results yet.
connected each card with PCI-E AND riser to their PSU, no difference so far. I found on another rig that when powering each cards riser with its PSU it won't run (restart when starting to hash).
I disconnected the onboard molex - no changes.
All the hardware is brand new. Don't have any temperature issues - it's cool (mostly <75°C no matter how high I overclock, usually running <70 °C).
Cgminer won't report any errors - it just freezes. (on my 2nd rig I sometimes get a error with 511°C and 0 RPM on one card, but that's another problem.. for another time)

hashrate

My hashrate (scrypt, cgminer) has been lower than other people report. I tried many settings where people reported 470khash+ (up to 500). The best I ended up on was 435 (not stable). Here my last settings as I remember:

I should also note that my vertmining hashrate is lower than others get (185 vs 220). I can't find what is wrong, but I know other people are having the same issues. Gather, unlucky miners!  

On a serious note: this has cost me too much money on stupid risers, fans, cable extensions, psus.. and a lot, a lot of time. Please give a miner some advice! This is not the first rig I've built, but the most fucked-up one, yet.

This thread will soon look like a log because I'll try anything. This way others can see what I tried and what the effects were. Maybe someone can find a clue to why he has this error - and maybe, maybe I'll find the error myself.

[HD 5830 HD Xtreme]

hi,

ich habe meinen BTC-Server abgebaut und meinen Alltags-PC unteranderm damit aufgerüstet. Nun stehen einige Teile zum Verkauf:

2x HD 5830 HD Xtreme (1GB RAM) die ich gebraucht gekauft hab. Liefen bei mir nun etwa 5 Monate stabil bei 72-74°C.
60€ je Karte.

1x HD 4850 von Gainward (1GB RAM) aus meinem PC. Lief bis zum Ausbau einwandfrei.

1x AMD Sempron 140 (lässt sich auf 2 Kerne freischalten, jedoch hab ich ihn nur mit einem Kern betrieben, war als BTC-Server nicht nötig) inkl. Boxed Kühler oder Arctic Cooling Kühler (deutlich leiser).

Dazu gäbs dann noch eine Lian Li T60 Bench (offenes Gehäuse/Workbench).

Ich hätte auch noch ein HTC-Desire, RMA (wurde erst im Oktober getauscht), jedoch nach einer Woche im Betrieb schon im Bootloader/Ladescreen hängen bleibt. Anschließend ist die Garantie abgelaufen. Vielleicht hat ja jemand Verwendung dafür. Optisch wie neu.

Alles Ware aus einem Nichtraucherhaushalt ohne Tiere.
Die andern beiden HD 5830 laufen zur Zeit in meinem PC als Crossfire Version, ich tausche diese beiden auch gerne gegen eine einzelne Karte.

i just looked into my rig (i bought private on this forum) and it appears that one of my 4 Hd 5830 (sapphire xtreme) does look a little different.
i did research on this but i didnt find any case where a hd 5850 was sold as a 5830, if this is the case. All four cards have written "HD 5830" on it, but one card is about 1 or 2cm longer, has this round shape "printed" on the board, a different adapter and the plastic part of the cooler is shaped a little different on the sides.

thats the same adapter this card has.

Anybody knows if there were 2 different versions? Could this be a HD 5850?

ich bin noch blutiger Anfänger mit den bitcoins - was PCs antrifft aber geübt.
Allerdings kann ich in anderen Foren hier keinen Thread eröffnen? Würde gern auf englisch posten, da es vermutlich mehr Leute lesen, habe aber nicht die Möglichkeit einen Thread zu eröffnen?

Ich habe mittlerweile Win7 und BAMT(aktuellste Version, 0.5) probiert. Auf Win7 konnte ich per remote control nicht overclocken, egal welche Treiber. Ohne Treiber ging es. Irgendwann gings dann auch ohne Remote nicht mehr - fürs erste Win7 aufgegeben.

Erst zu meinem Rig:

MSI 790FX GD70
4x HD 5830 (bzw gerade nur 2)
2gb Ram
amd sempron 140 freigeschalten auf athlon X2 4400e
900Watt  netzteil
16gb usb stick (BAMT)
250gb hdd (win7 64bit)
überall ein dummy plug bzw monitor angeschlossen

Die Win7 Version ist legal, beziehe ich als Student kostenlos

Nun mein Problem/Fragen, hoffentlich gibt es hier jemand der sich mit BAMT/linux auskennt:

wenn ich die bamt.conf benutze (mit overclock werten), kriege ich den fehler "inconsistent identation on line 91" bzw line 80.

Die bamt.conf sieht folgendermaßen aus:

selbiges für gpu2. Das Problem tritt schon in der Zeile core_speed_0: 300 auf. mit dem mitgeliefertem ATI tool kann ich overclocken auf 900, alles läuft, aber auch nicht drüber hinaus.
Habe probiert als pre_oc command "aticonfig --od-enable" (overdrive enable) auszuführen, dann kommt der fehler eben schon bei diesem command.


Frage am Rande: warum muss ich immer mein Passwort fürs wlan neu eingeben bei jedem Start? Ich habs abgespeichert, er will sich aber nicht dran erinnern.
Bamt hängt auch zwischendurch (manchmal ohne minen) und ist sehr träge, liegt das am usb stick?

Ich hoffe jemand kann mir helfen oder mich an die richtige Stelle verweisen. Scheint niemand sonst so einen Fehler zu haben..

ist es möglich verschiedene HD Radeon miteinander zu kombinieren? Ich habe 4 Slots auf einem Board frei, 3 davon belegt durch HD 5830, kann ich beispielsweise eine HD 5970 hinzuschalten?

ich hab das forum abgesucht und google benutzt, komm aber auf keinen grünen zweig

Spielt es eine Rolle ob ich die selbe Karte benutz, jedoch von verschiedenen Herstellern? Beispielsweise 3x Sapphire HD 5830 Xtreme und 1x XFX 5830?
