1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Namecoin importprivkey "Method now found" on: July 27, 2013, 01:12:40 PM
If your read the title, it is obvious what this thread is about.
So I have a Namecoin client and I want to use addresses generated by Vanitygen. I see that importprivkey does not work ... is there any alternative? Why did the namecoiners throw this method out of the official client?
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Do not use Coinbase on: September 15, 2012, 10:53:44 AM
Ok... I guess maybe there are some people who have good experiences with Coinbase, but I seriously wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

First the only reason I joined was the bonus program... And the only reason 90% people joined is the promised 0.01 bonus that you can withdraw any time. Now you can see many complains on their support site from people who did everything and just didn't receive the bonus. An example:
http://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/questions/455288-no-bonus-bitcoin

I think the goal of this kind of website would be flexibility, credibility and instant payments. Fast and simple money transfers are the point of Bitcoin.

On coinbase any transaction you make, stays "Pending". They say for an hour, but that is not completly true. After waiting for few hours people will just lose their patience. Very interesting thing happened to me: yesterday I sent some amount to my local wallet. Today when I woke up I checked and money did not arive, and the "Pending" transaction on coinbase was just gone and the money was still in my coinbase wallet. Like I never sent it. When I get this 3BTC out of there I'll never use coinbase again.

So again: I don't recomment using Coinbase at all.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / BAMT distro won't boot on: July 24, 2012, 11:11:14 AM
I'm trying to boot this BAMT distro.

It's funny 'cause I made a USB key with exactly the same command they provided on their download page:

Code:
dd if=/path/to/bamt.img of=/dev/yourUSBkey

When I try to boot I get this error:

Code:
Missing operating system.
Missing operating system.

Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v11.0.9
Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Broadcom corporation

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM

Operating system not found.

So am I doing something wrong or is my computer some kind of exception!?!?!?Huh
And why don't they make a standard iso file (like all other Linux distros), so it can be done with unetbootin or something?
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Need help installing CGMiner on Ubuntu 12.04 on: July 21, 2012, 12:00:02 PM

configure: error: No mining configured in

I have Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit and GeForce 8400 GS graphics card. CGMiner version is 2.5.0.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Help me... I'm a noob and I don't know how to start with LinuxCoin on: July 17, 2012, 11:19:22 AM
All this looks even harder on windows...so I decided to use LinuxCoin.

When I try to start GUIMiner I always get this message(just like on Windows):

Code:
No openCL devices were found.
If you only want to mine using CPU or CUDA, you can ignore this message. If you want to mine on ATI graphics cards, you may need to install the ATI Stream SDK, or your GPU may not support OpenCL.

So then I downloaded this: http[Suspicious link removed]cutables/atistream-1.4.0_beta-lnx64.tar.gzip

When I extract it there are two .run files. I executed them both and agreed with the licence (or something). So both were successfully installed I guess...

The problem is when I run GUIMiner again I get the same message... So I guess GUIMiner does not recognize that ATI Stream SDK is installed (or is it?).

OK there's also an option to ignore this message and just try to mine with the CPU unit. But that also doesn't work. The error message is: pyopencl.LogicError: clGetPlatformIDs failed> platform not found khr

This is just another universe for me... What can I do???
