1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Parts to fix faulty A2 Terminator board on: December 31, 2014, 04:23:26 AM
Specifically, I'm after a capacitor that inconveniently detached itself from one of the boards on my A2 Terminator. As a result, I can't resolder it onto the board because its legs have broken off down to the base and it's literally impossible to solder on new legs. I've been looking around for a while now and although there are similar capacitors, there appear to be none (at least from my searching) that I could find. Moreover, could I use a similar brand capacitor rated the same as the one I'm searching for?

The capacitor which broke off has the text "A 45X 330 16V" printed on it but none of the searches I've been led to have the A 45X stamp. The ones I've found all have 330 16V stamped on them from what I can see but none appear to be an exact match. I'm not worried about exact matches tbh, I'm just after a replacement that will do the job unless an exact match is required... I've attached a link to the image below of the capacitor in question. Any help is appreciated.

2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / CGMiner 3.2.2 reporting wrong temp for 5770? on: June 22, 2013, 12:38:46 PM
So, I decided to slap in my old 5770 (flashed to 6770) along side my 2 7970's and after some mucking about having to hook up external power to one of the powered risers hosting one of the 7970's, I have the 7970's hashing away at full speed. A voltage drop caused the primary card to slow to a crawl, 2 cards with no power to the risers is fine but add another card in and I definitely needed more power than the board was giving...

Anyway, getting off track a little.. I'm using the latest version of CGMiner (3.2.2) and whilst tuning clocks on the 5770, I noticed that CGMiner was reporting a different temperature reading than what HWiNFO was reporting, a discrepancy of 12C! The GPU core seems hotter than what CGMiner is reporting. CGMiner is reporting correctly for the 2 7970's but not for the 5770... I'm wondering if this is a bug?

See for yourself. Check out the 5770 (marked out in a RED box) and compare it to the value reported for the Thermal Diode in HWiNFO... Disregard the fan speed, I dropped it to a low enough value so I could compare the temperatures easily. I have the fan on 85% atm and the temperature in HWiNFO dropped to 73C but there was no drop in CGMiner.

3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 1Kw PSU apparently not enough juice for 2x7970's Ghz Editions... on: May 30, 2013, 10:33:33 AM
Recently built a mining rig and slapped in 2x7970's Ghz editions with the 1100/6000 clocks backed by what I thought would be ample power with a bargain buy Powercooler 1050w PSU. I almost shit myself when I fired up cgminer and seeing the top card's temp rocket within seconds to 99C before a loud pop and massive bright spark spewed it's way out of the exhaust of the PSU. The system switched off and isn't turning back on anymore. I'm worried that I might have fried something else aside from the PSU namely a card or two.... I tried the paper clip test on the PSU and yep she's dead as a door nail, wont turn on. Problem is my current desktop rig's PSU only has 2x6pin power plugs so I can't test the cards on it to see if they are still ok as they are 1x6pin and 1x8pin plugs each.

Definitely need another PSU that's for sure but what I failed to read was the correct wattage specification for these cards.. I stupidly led myself to believe I'd be looking at between 250-300w per card when in actual fact it's 600w per card! I really hope they are ok, they're only 2 days old, heck I could have even blown the mobo for all I know at this point - Woe Is Me! Sad
