2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Full node and LN into RPi 3 on: May 10, 2019, 01:02:57 PM
HI! I'm trying to run bitcoind in a full node way into a RPi3.

I mounted an external disk with enough space, and started the bitcoind service, but after a day syncing the chain, everything crashed, I suppose is because a global out of memory problem.

This is my bitcoin.conf file, do you know how to run the process with low memory consumption?

5  Economy / Securities / [GYM] [Colored Coins Asset] Gym Aholic LXS Mexico on: September 18, 2015, 11:31:53 PM
Hello everyone!

I'm writing this post to announce that I'm in talks with the owner of a gym in Mexico City to enter to the Bitcoin & Crypto world.

He actually has a running gym, with very good numbers both in cash and customers, and it is growing at a steady pace. I has been doing my workout with them since May, and thought about introducing them to Bitcoin until last week, that I talked with the owner.

I will be taking note of the numbers, the net asset value (machines, weights and those things), the 12 months sales and expenses (or more if possible) and the projected sales.

Also I will be asking him to post here (he doesn't speak English very well), maybe do an interview (subbed), and show the videos that are actually in the facebook page.

I will be managing also his website, that is a customer of Optical Cube (OPCU).

My estimate for NAV is about 250k MXN, so I created a token on colored coins for 250k shares. I will talk to him about the purpose of the additional shares to decide the total amount of shares, and to give you an estimate of sales.

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to ask here!

6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Dynamic MAX_BLOCK_SIZE using SMA or EMA + 1 StdDev on: August 24, 2015, 08:39:20 PM
Hello! I want to suggest to set an automatic MAX_BLOCK_SIZE using Simple Moving Average or Exponential Moving Average of the latest 1440 blocks (10 days) plus 1 standard deviation.

With the minimum value of it equal to 1,000,000 bytes. This way it can grow indefinitely but it will adapt to the market demands and the adaptation is not so fast to be used for spam, but fast enough to adapt to the moves of the market.

For example, if the latest 1440 block's sizes average is let say 900KB, and the standard deviation is +/- 200KB, then the resulting MAX_BLOCK_SIZE will be 900KB+200KB=1100KB

One standard deviation addition to the average should be enough to cover about 85% the blocks, and because the average is dynamic, if the block sizes starts growing, then the average also grow, and in less than 10 days about 85% of new bigger blocks will fit inside the max_block_size.

The 1 standard deviation could be 2 devs that covers 98% of all the blocks.

EMA is faster in response than SMA, but more difficult to calculate, and I don't think the bitcoin market is moving and will be moving as fast as it left SMA behind.

7  Economy / Securities / [OPCU] [CounterParty] Stock IPO Optical Cube on: May 31, 2015, 06:53:11 PM
Hello there!

As you should notice, we started paying dividends again, because we are now profitable and our cash balance is increasing. We have now about 6 months of rent in cash and will be saving more until we have 1 year of rent in cash. Meanwhile we are going to pay a small dividend by month!

But the question here is what is best for all, in terms of security of the shares, and liquidity of the market.

I think Litecoin now is not a very good coin to continue with, because it seems to be lost when compared to other altcoins. The principal advantage, ASIC-resistant, is now gone. Also, its speed is now gone infront other coins with 60 seconds confirmations.

This render us to move to Bitcoin instead of Litecoin. And thus this opens new options for markets. We think that is best for all of us to use decentralized exchanges, something as solid as the blockchain, and that is the question I'm making.

I know about Colored Coins, because I developed some proof of concept with it. Also know about the protocol of Counterparty, that is some type of colored coin, using also the blockchain. Both are good options, but Counterparty has somewhat more development and it has a exchange ready.

So the question is, should we stay in LCI, move to Colored Coins (with coinprism) or move to Counterparty?

I already create the tokens in coinprism and counterparty with same settings, just to be ready.

I think the best way to go is use Counterparty, and that is the preferred path.

9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Proof of Hash proposal on: June 16, 2014, 08:13:41 PM
Looking at two major issues with current block validation (51% attacks and huge amount of energy required, that will tend to grow in the future) I designed this hashing system, that I called Proof of Hash

For one to be able to sign a block, he needs to:

  • Use all the transactions in memory that has enough fee, are valid, does not contains previously spent transactions to form a block.
  • Generate a hash of the block
  • Look for the binary version of the addresses with coins that:
  • Have at least max(4383,number of blocks since genesis block) confirmations (365.25/12 days, about 1 month), and get the arithmetic difference between the number represented by that address and with the block hash.
  • Have at least an amount of coins that is the same size as current block reward.

  • Divide by the coin age (number of coins in that address multiplied by the number of confirmations).
  • Coin age could not be zero nor negative.
  • The smallest result is the best one. That is, one that has great coin age in an address that is the most similar to the block hash is who can sign the block. Every miner in the network can know this in a deterministic way. This is the Best Ratio.

Once a miner knows that he can mint a block it groups all the transactions, sign them and broadcast them. The other minters knows that this is the one that should do the task previously, so they accept it.

If more than one address has the same Best Ratio, then first block is accepted.

If a block is broadcasted at the same time of another different block, and both are valid, the block that has more transactions wins.

If for some reason like split brain issues the chain forks, the largest chain in means of transactions wins. But if merging can be done without double spending, then the possible blocks are added the the winner chain.

Use combined mining and minting. Whoever signs the block first, wins. This way current miners can still mine, but difficulty will make it harder to reach the 10 minute target with PoW, while PoH will mint every 10 minutes, because it is based on luck, not on computer power.

The signing window for PoH starts 10 seconds before the 600 seconds target, and ends 10 seconds after that. One of the 10 best matches of PoH can sign the block. After the 610 second since last block, the signed block that is the greatest in match with the block hash will win.

If no block is sent with PoH, then it will be mined by regular PoW.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [TUM][PoH] Tumin, ASIC immune introducing Proof of Hash (PoH) on: June 13, 2014, 11:14:20 PM
Tumin, from native Mexican language Totonaca, means Money.

Tumin is a crypto currency with a new paradigm and introducing Proof of Hash mechanism.

Benefits of Proof of Hash

  • Avoids 51% attacks.
  • Rewards everyone, not only most powerful or rich participants.
  • Encourages minting.
  • Environmentally friendly, almost not power consumption.
  • Keeps away double spending.
  • Permits 1 minute blocks without chain forks.
  • Allow fast consensus because every other miner can know who can mint the block in a deterministic way.
  • ASIC resistant.
Benefits of Tumin [TUM]

  • Fixed coins amount. It is proposed to set the limit to 10 billion coins (10,000,000,000)
  • Fixed reward, not changing over time, rewarding equally one that starts in the economy at the beginning and one that starts years later. A reward of 100 coins per block is proposed. It is about 1915.7 years to mint all the coins.
  • Fast block minting. A 1 minute target is proposed.
  • Fees are paid to block minter.
  • Starts with up to 8 decimals.
  • Optional auto fee discovery, using the average cost of bandwidth and the purchase power of the coin
  • Optional minimum fee required to add a transaction in the client
  • No charge backs. Because all the network participants can know deterministically who are the best to sign a block, it is impossible to create another branch in the block chain once a block is signed by the best of the best
  • Uses 512 bit keys that gives a lot more security and possible addresses
At this time PoH is a conceptual idea, nothing has been developed.

What is Poor of Hash?

For one to be able to sign a block, he needs to:

  • Use all the transactions in memory that has enough fee, are valid, does not contains previously spent transactions to form a block.
  • Transactions must have 1 minute or more since they were broadcasted
  • Generate a hash of the block
  • Look for the binary version of the addresses with coins that have at least max(40830,number of blocks since genesis block) confirmations (365.25/12 days, about 1 month), and get the arithmetic difference between the number represented by that address and with the block hash.
The other miners knows that this is the one that should do the task previously, so they accept it.

If before sending the block other transactions is accepted as valid to include in the block then all the process must be redone.

11  Bitcoin / Mining / Cloud mining that allows me use my own pool on: January 03, 2014, 07:48:57 AM
Hi! I want to know if there is a cloud mining service that allows me to write my own mining pool url user and password.

Currently all that I see in the market uses their own pool, and I want to choose my own pool, and only use their hashing power.

Thank you

13  Bitcoin / Project Development / P2P [block/video/audio/whatever] storage on: January 08, 2013, 11:02:13 PM
This is an idea I had a week ago when I was trying to sleep after a couple of cups of espresso coffee Smiley

The P2P Block Storage system is a storage service based on Namecoin network for metadata and Bitcoin/Litecoin for payment system.

It can allow uploading any type of digital information, including files, images, sound and video. The information is protected on at least 1 group of nodes and anyone can upload and download information from/to the network.

The information is stored as blocks of bits, not bytes, so that one node can handle only one bit per each byte of each block, making it impossible to say what is that information. This protects the nodes from being charged by authorities, like the RIAA or another one.

The initial focus of this network is to share video, like movies and trailers, but because the blocks are any type of data, they can be DRM protected movies.

The cost of the services is paid by Bitcoins (or litecoins maybe); each time a client downloads a block of data, it must pay some amount of bitcoins to the node that is serving that data.

The actors of the system are the nodes, the issuer and the customers or viewers.

The issuer is the computer that uploads the block for first time to the network.
The nodes are the computers that replicate that block and distribute it to viewers.
The viewers are the computers that downloads and uses the information from nodes.

The nodes must pay a fee to other nodes (called root nodes) when they download a block for first time. The nodes can be configured to store full blocks or only bit blocks. In case of full blocks they expose themselves to legal action in case they are storing illegal content. The nodes can vary their fee per block manually by the node operator.

A viewer can ask for a list of blocks to a node, and the node then answer which blocks does it has and the cost per block. Then, the viewer can select which blocks are going to be retrieved from which node based on a rating system and the cost per block. To know which blocks does it needs to download it ask to the Namecoin network about one content, and its associated list of blocks.

When a viewer ask a node to serve a list of blocks, the node will answer with the total cost, transaction number and bitcoin/litecoin addresses which must be used to pay for that transaction. After the viewer paid the transaction, then it can start retrieving that blocks from that node. It can retrieve the node in full once, and must save it on local storage (like temp memory or cache).

After a block is retrieved and verified by the viewer (or another nodes) they will send to the Namecoin network a rating upgrade of that node and block, allowing other viewers/nodes to know that the root node that served that block is a valid one. This increase of rating serve the root nodes to gain more viewers, and because they can adjust their cost per block, they can compete between other nodes.

A viewer can be also a node; because it already downloaded a block, it can then serve that block to other viewers or nodes, charging them for it. This way the system encourages viewers to be also nodes, helping with the network.

A node is identified by an unique ID, like UUID. When it signs to the network must send a message to the Namecoin network indicating that it is online and which are the IPs and ports are listening. They can also share a list of blocks that they are holding allowing other nodes to ask for them, just in case they are behind a NAT and cannot be contacted directly.

The stream of data obtained from nodes then can be transferred to an application like VLC or another one. If it is DRM protected it could require a special application or plugin.

A DRM protected content can include in the metadata the necessary data to allow the players to contact the original issuer and ask for a view code and pay the fees to be allowed to do that.

If a viewer don’t know anything about bitcoin/litecoin/namecoin and it is not interested on learning, it can use third party services that accept credit cards or another payment method. That services can charge the viewer for an amount of money, and the convert part of it to bitcoins and deposit it on the customer’s address.

The proposal is that each block is about 1MB, and only contain one string of bits.
The cost per block could be 0.000001 BTC, making a DVD movie (4.5GB) cost of 0.036 BTC or about 0.50 USD
The metadata stored on namecoin network must be of type blockmeta/sha256(of barcode or unique media identifier), and contain the unique media identifier, the title, meta tags, duration, format, description and number of blocks. Optionally it can contain the issuer identifier. That identifier is also stored on namecoin network.
The block metadata stored on namecoin network must be of type blockdata/sha256(same as the blockmeta)-number of block and contain the sha256 of each bit block and of the full block and optionally a GPG signature of the full block issued with the issuer GPG key.
The issuer metadata must be of blockissuer/gpg key identifier and can contain name, description, contact information, btc/ltc payment addresses, link to webservices like DRMALLOW or another one and the public GPG key.
The block-node information must be of blocknode/sha256(block id) concat uuid of the node and contain the vote: -1, 0 or 1. Also it must include the payment transaction ID used to download that block, the public address used to pay for that block and sign with that address the vote.
Every Time that a node or viewer downloads and verifies a block from one node, it must send its vote on the namecoin network.
The blockmeta must have an expiration of 1 month. If they expire, then one point of their rating is removed, if there is no more points to remove, then the block metadata is removed.
Every time that a node or viewer finish downloading of all the blocks from a blockmeta, it must tell the network that it just finish it, increasing 1 point the rating of that blockmeta.

One also can use the network as a cloud storage service. Just need to upload a block of data, and depending of which level of replication does one needs, one can download the block again and again until it has the required rating. One can also use a “markdownload” method or something like that to increase the rate, pay for that increase as if it was downloaded the block but without all the bandwidth.

Why am I including support or information about DRM here?
Well, if we want to have BTC/LTC as a supported currency we require that the existing companies participate. I don’t think that the movies producers are going to collaborate with us if they can protect their content from unauthorized usage. But that don’t restrict other persons to upload their own movies.

Please tell me what do you think about this, and if there is another project like this. Thanks
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / P2P Stock Market on: December 17, 2012, 08:48:43 AM
I think I have a wonderful idea!

I'm looking for a way to have p2p stock market, that is secure, fast, open and have all the good characteristics that bitcoin/litecoin have.

So I looked on namecoin protocol, did you know it?

I made a OPCU stock (you can find me in litecoinglobal) TEST release on that protocol. You can check it on the namecoin chain

{
    "name" : "stock/opcu",
    "value" : "{\"symbol\":\"OPCU\", \"shares\": \"400000\", \"authorizedSigners\": {\"signer1\": \"GPG:5684C839\"}, \"issuedBy\": \"BitcoinMKT.com\"}",
    "txid" : "a7af10b1133d5925a8c5402d154152ed97cbe8fba6e27cab8bdf74da5db5d4f1",
    "address" : "MwGruWW7rnr3dTQcMaohrkKp5uGqpzHSTr",
    "expires_in" : 36000
}

i registered a new message with name stock/opcu, and in the value i declared the ticket symbol OPCU, the number of shares and the PGP public key of the authorized signer to give shares to another signature, and obviously the issuedBy from my own stock/currency exchange for mexican people.

I think this is the best way to have property of the shares. namecoin can be merged mined with bitcoin, so the network is secured by all the bitcoin hashing power, sending a message is pretty cheap, and the chain is public. On this message you can see that I issued 400k shares (the same as on litecoinglobal) and my public gpg key is defined there. You can check that signature on public key servers, and also on bitcoin-otc.

I placed the string with the capability of having 1 or more signers, so I can give shares to other people without an exchange, but I could also allow a signer2 that has the public key of one exchange, like ltc-global, and then ltc-global could be authorized to change the authorizedsigners of the shares, or simply I could give only 50k to the gpg public key of ltc-global, another 50k to btct.co and other 50k to cryptoexchange and keep 50k to me.

What do you think about this idea, and the possible implementation on ltc-global/btct.co?

The signature can be from GPG or another system like the bitcoin system. That's the reason the signature has the prefix GPG:, but it could be BTC: or LTC: and place the public key of BTC or LTC that is allowed to sign changes on the authorizedSignatures to that amount of shares.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [CLC] Cloud Coin Idea on: September 13, 2012, 06:22:58 AM
Hi! This is my first idea of this type.

I'm very happy with crypto currencies, I like the idea, the development and the working.

What I dislike is the usage of the energy (I think it is a waste of energy to do only hashing) AND the problem with ASIC and other speciallized devices.

So I'm proposing this new currency, called Cloud Coin (maybe a cuter name, easy to pronounce in various languages will be better)

The basic idea is to make a currency with the same characteristics of BTC, except the proof of work.

It could use the same proof of work as BTC and LTC combined to start, but it must allow a proof of work that is different from simple hashing, like computing work.

It is basically the mix of BTC&LTC proof of work with the idea of BOINC projects.

A person, institution or whatever should be able to create a block to solve, with the code (some type of kernel, with a predefined set of instructions that don't put at risk the miner's computer) to solve that block.

That individual could add a new block to solve to the block chain paying some amount of CLCs, that the miners win when the block is solved. The solution of the block is then added to the block chain so the indivudal that placed the problem can retrive the result, and add a new block to the chain.

This way, if someone  wants to do a heavy computing work can use the CLC network paying a price for it. Because the individual requires to pay with CLC, he/she must have enough CLC on his account (address) to pay for inclusion of a block. Miners can chose which block to solve, based on the premium of solving that block.

And the individual that includes the block to solve can buy CLC from miners or a CLC market paying with whatever he has, like other coins (BTC or other) or trading for centralized and closed currencies like USD/GBP or another thing.

If no project is available, the CLC network can add blocks from boinc projects like SETI, to contribute to science.

Also, the network should provide a reward in addition to the premium that the individual paid for the work.

This way no speciallized device could be easily made that works with so generic type of proof of work, while at the same time providing the miners a better return on their GPU and CPU and maybe FPGAs, and also providing to the individual that ask for Computing time the solution of his problem on a very big cloud computing environment, and also providing to the world a better usage of the energy solving science projects.

Do you think this is viable?
