2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Forbes' ‘Good for Nothing' Blockchains on: May 01, 2024, 05:41:13 PM
since there is no thread about this yet in the forum. i'd like to post it just so it will be documented here and see what the community has to say about the Forbes list of ‘Good for Nothing' Blockchains which they deemed no real-world use.

they could be right about what they are saying but they are still top coins in the list and with a large trading volume every day. check out the reason why they say the project is good for nothing in the left-hand column.

i found some posts of it on twitter https://twitter.com/tryPluid/status/1784240971204473032

Bitcoin: A Trojan Horse for CBDCs

Lynette Zang, Founder & CEO of Zang Enterprises thinks Bitcoin is the Trojan Horse and said that it wasn't a coincidence that it came out in January of 2009 when QE started in March. And because of the timing of when it came out which was after the 2008 financial crisis, she suspects the NSA has something to do with this.
their conversation led Michelle Makori to be neutral in her view but would like to present a panel to debate with Zang about this.

here's one question that pops up in their discussion.
do you agree with what Zang is saying that because Bitcoin was brought into the traditional system through ETFs mean Bitcoin is not outside the system?

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / UK regulators drive demands to BTC due to ETNs on: March 12, 2024, 03:40:31 PM
since the ETFs were approved in the US, the BTC demand has been driving the price up since the start of the year.

Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is also up to allow traders to have access to crypto-backed exchange-traded notes which will surely drive more demands not just to BTC but some other crypto projects. this is apart from the looming approval of ETH ETF in the US which is just a matter of when it will be approved but it's speculated to be approved this May 2024. BTC to $100K before June is probably possible.

LONDON, March 11 (Reuters) - Britain's financial watchdog on Monday approved the launch of crypto-backed exchange-traded notes for professional investors, becoming the latest regulator to allow digital asset products while trying to shield retail investors.
Such products - bonds issued by financial institutions that track the performance of underlying assets - will only be available to investment firms and credit institutions approved to operate in financial markets, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said in a statement.

8  Economy / Economics / strange indicators to know economy is bad on: November 23, 2023, 08:50:50 PM
we know the economy is bad when gas prices have already gone up and all the rest of the stuff we usually buy in the grocery store is up 15%. and because your salary is just what it was the last 2 years, your situation is just as bad as the rest of us. we are in a recession. one reason more economists wanna be think we are in a recession is because we hear it on the news too.

but here are indicators to confirm we really are in an economic downturn.

1. butter popcorn index - people go to movies regardless of how bad the movie is. they just go see movies to just get away from their problems. but when the economy is bad, just sit and watch netflix.

2. diaper rash - parents wouldn't mind if their kid's diapers are already full during an economic crisis and are not neglectful when it comes to the diaper turning yellow during an economic upturn.

3. plastic surgery index - plastic surgery index is generally down during rough times as women wouldn't mind how small their boobs are than when the economy is booming.

4. lipstick index -  women wouldn't spend much on expensive lipsticks so sales are gonna be bad for lipsticks compared to the times when economy is great.

5. japanese haircut index - during a good economy, more people in japan will take care of themselves and get their looks neat and they're not doing this during bad times. women don't go to beauty parlors.

6. bike fatality index - during an economic crisis, people use bikes often or can't afford cars so more bike accidents happen.

7. men underwear index - men especially singles don't mind wearing underwear with a couple of holes in it, no one sees it anyway. men buy less underwear during economic downturns.

8. garbage index - less garbage because people buy less when the economy is bad and buy more when times are good so more garbage everywhere.

9. unclaimed body index - during a bad economy, dead people are not claimed in the morgue. horrible index to look at how bad the economy is.
i'm sure people take care of their family when they die. can't believe this is happening.

i'm sure there are some more, there is also a "beer index" where people prefer to just buy 6 packs and go drink at home rather than a bar.
a few months ago, i bought my kid a secondhand laptop rather than a new one because it's expensive, i think this is also an indicator. and i know he'd break it sooner.

9  Economy / Gambling discussion / at which point of a boxing match you consider cashingout? on: November 06, 2023, 06:57:23 PM
assuming you risk your money to an underdog Prograis 3.75 vs Devin 1.22 and then Prograis luckily landed a snap punch resulting in a flash knockdown in the 1st round and the referee counts to 8. of course, you will be seeing the cashout option makes you win probably more than 30% if you'll cash out. would you do it or would you wait to find out if Prograis wins?  and what will you do if the fight goes the distance while Devin is also gaining?

let's say you compare this to Fury vs Ngannou which Ngannou knock down Fury and then goes the distance. will you cashout because it's already a sure profit or will you wait for the decision which is very uncertain?
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Not a casual fan but want to participate in sportsbetting on: October 27, 2023, 06:39:26 PM
once an NBA fan somewhat like a casual fan of NBA and wants to bet on matches.

being a fan but not going to do some research about the players and team conditions, how am i going to participate in sports betting specifically on the NBA?
i wouldn't want to just keep following based on the odds. seemingly as a bettor, it requires ramping up on lots of updates and knowledge of the sport and how the team players are doing. how am i to do it?
11  Other / Off-topic / Any one buys in the auctions on Fragment? on: September 04, 2023, 04:05:46 PM

12  Economy / Gambling discussion / would you play more on casino when your country plans to ban BTC? on: June 06, 2023, 08:49:35 PM
while your country plans to ban crypto trading but online gambling legal, you'll gonna to decide what to do with coins.  would you go play your coins to accumulate or just withdraw and wait for the government to change stance?  no other option.
13  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / SIM Registration: Anong Dapat Ipag-alala? on: December 14, 2022, 03:10:23 AM

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 12) — Old and new mobile phone users must register their SIM or subscriber identification module beginning Dec. 27 under new rules issued in line with the law.
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) released the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 11934 or the SIM Registration Act on Monday.

Existing users have six months to register the SIM or it will be deactivated. Owners of deactivated SIM have only five days to register and reactivate.
New SIMs sold will remain deactivated until end-users complete the process of registration.
The registration must be done electronically through a secure platform or website to be provided by the telecommunication companies to their subscribers.

Users will be asked to give some personal information like complete name, birthdate, sex, and address. They must also provide a copy of an identification card.
The IRR also states that any information and data obtained in the registration must be treated as absolutely confidential and shall not be disclosed to any person.

Telcos may disclose the full name and address of an end-user only in four instances:

*in compliance with any law obligating the telcos to disclose such information in accordance with the Data Privacy Act;
*in compliance with a court order or legal process upon finding of probable cause;
*in compliance with a subpoena issued by a competent authority pursuant to an investigation that a specific mobile number, was or is being used in the commission of a crime; and
*with the written consent of the subscriber.

"The confidentiality clause in the SIM registration shall take effect at the point of activation and shall continue even after deactivation of the SIM and for as long as the end-user's data is still retained by the PTEs (public telecommunication entity),” the IRR stated.

“For this purpose, the point of activation shall mean the time when the concerned PTE receives the required data or information from the registering subscriber/end-user," it added.

Fines and jail time await violators of the law.

15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Does MMA Have A Gambling Problem? on: November 23, 2022, 06:17:24 PM
Does MMA Have A Gambling Problem?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK2zv1DjkAQ

in every broadcast of the fight, MMA experts the likes of Jon Anik and DC provides analysis of what happen and who they thought won the round while odds are also flashed sponsored by sportsbookie like Draftkings.  the video take a closer look at the relationship between gambling and combat sports to see what lies ahead for mixed martial arts while MMA sports becomes popular like boxing.

a lot of things said including the histoy how boxing and MMA started. i actually learn fighters, the team and even their family members are not allowed to bet on UFC bouts, i think was part of the code of conduct. because the general public now trust the system where there are no mafia or corruptions like rigged fights. will MMA have a gambling problem?

18  Other / Politics & Society / Massive Rallies Held across Europe on: October 12, 2022, 03:13:00 PM

People in the cities of Europe are feeling the high cost of living which they are on the streets shouting:

Prague: "Five Minutes to Midnight"
Berlin: "I want Russian gas and oil."
Vienna: "Prices Down!"

https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2022/10/09/2785435/massive-rallies-held-across-europe-over-soaring-prices-living-costs-videos

in Germany alone there were several protest going on due to the problem they see from high tax, energy cost, unemployment and inflation.
In France, there are already anti NATO protest. The people are protesting to exit NATO and demanding to stop supplying arms to Ukraine.

if these two Germany and France will confront energy and economic crisis this coming winter, what more could the smaller countries in EU face?
All these problems began when the Ukraine-Russia war started. if you are in Olaf's position in the German government and caught in the middle, will you listen to the people or to NATO?

as of now, they are relying to Norway gas pipeline that only produces 5-7 Million cubic meter of gas while Nordstream can produce 170M cubic meter to Germany.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / EOS is surging due to Antelope on: August 25, 2022, 02:40:03 AM

the mandel fork for Antelope protocol for EOS will happen this Sept. 21 and this is backed by EOS Network, Telos, WAX and UX Network coalition to develop the Antelope protocol which is community based for the Web3 Framework unlike before which is only developed by blockone.

this rebranding is waking up to token surge. i'm shilling of course after all there is thread for this one yet. not really sure if this could just be a brief rally or not. but i'm hoping this will bring more adoption to these altcoins. the development could probably put the project on the top 20 again on CMC.

for anyone interested here is an introduction to Antelope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3PNP2O4TB4

20  Economy / Gambling discussion / Chinese version of Metaverse will be great for meta casinos. on: June 19, 2022, 05:26:51 AM

just saw this video published today by Cyrus Janssen.  although he isn't providing link to what he is actually talking about. I did some googling which i found these:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-29/alibaba-makes-metaverse-bet-in-china-s-magic-leap-rival
https://www.alibabacloud.com/solutions/metaverse

i didn't know how AR differs to VR. Alibaba will be creating the worlds shopping center where you can use the headset and just literally going to experience this metaverse.

In the future i think its not so far fetch after all to play and travel around the world while at home. the way its been described by Cyrus will actually work best for metaverse casinos than what Zuckerberg have in mind.  i think this is where we can chat on the poker table and make bluffs.
