3  Economy / Service Announcements / [PRE-ANNOUNCE] CoinStax - A Precious Metals Retailer on: October 07, 2013, 04:43:46 AM
Greetings Bitcoiners!

It is a great relief to see the return of BitcoinTalk, for which there is no replacement in terms of Bitcoin development and education, and also my favorite place to watch for new projects.

On that note, I am excited to announce that CoinStax will be launching soon! Work remains, but CoinStax will offer physical precious metals products (gold, silver, and platinum bullion), accepting primarily (only?) Bitcoin as payment.

We have a twitter account which will soon release periodic updates. You can follow us @coinstax

Leading up to launch, we will also utilize BitcoinTalk for news on the project, so please check back now and then. And feel free to offer your thoughts on our new endeavor.

5  Bitcoin / Project Development / [ANNOUNCE] The Bit Pages - A Bitcoin directory for merchants and individuals on: August 12, 2013, 03:58:57 PM
Announcing The Bit Pages!

www.TheBitPages.com

The Bit Pages is a directory of both merchants and individuals with the aim of becoming a comprehensive resource for the Bitcoin economy. We want to facilitate new relationships between Bitcoin merchants and users, and help solve the problem of locating Bitcoin businesses.

As BitcoinTalk represents an essential piece of the Bitcoin community, we are inviting members of these forums to be the first set of users to sign up. Your feedback is highly valued, and we are eager to hear your thoughts during these early stages of development. So please take a moment to establish your own page, and we'd really appreciate you forwarding the link as an invitation to a few friends or merchants. With this project, we hope to strengthen the Bitcoin economy, and with your help of getting others involved, we are certain to succeed.

We are excited to begin a dialogue, so if you have any suggestions for the site, want to help out in any way, or are interested in a partnership, we are all ears!

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / First Rig - LTC - Seeking Input on: March 29, 2013, 11:16:10 PM
Hello Fellow Visionaries,

I am planning my first mining rig build, for Litecoin, and I would like to get some input.

==============
Here is my current plan:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/N6Fk
==============
Updated:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NLCo
==============

How does it look?

I have done my best to research this build for the past week. Information is very scattered, and the scene is changing so quickly that it's difficult to tell what is obsolete.

A case will be added because I don't have the time to build a custom open-air rig, and I rather not have a Frankenstein experiment in plain sight. Should I go for a full tower? Anything specific to consider?

Your help is very appreciated!
7  Economy / Speculation / The First Gorvernmental Cryptocurrency on: March 23, 2013, 04:56:41 AM
As a preface to my question below:

Recently I had the realization that if Bitcoin goes viral, it will eventually draw competition from governments.

If this is the case, governments might create Altcoins which benefit themselves by involving some sort of tax within the code. Of course, these versions of cryptocurrency would not be open-source, and the client would be designed and distributed centrally.

But to compete with Bitcoin, the State may design a more ergonomic system than Bitcoin. This is made possible by taxing its paper currency holders so that it may divert enough resources to outpace Bitcoin's private development.

The government designed coin, Govcoin, could then be touted as the answer to the economic problems, as Bitcoin had, but with the endorsement of political powers. "Look, here is a coin just like that Bitcoin thing, but it's better because it is backed up by us, the State."

Those unconvinced by Bitcoin's free market approach would likely turn to authority figures for answers - Ta Da! Govcoin!

So here is my question to you:

When will we see the first government designed cryptocurrency, and could it succeed, even if only temporarily?
