7  Bitcoin / Project Development / ANNOUNCEMENT: Vulnerability Bounty Program on: February 20, 2014, 02:09:26 PM
Since our last bounty announcement on September 18, 2013, we are pleased to announce that only one actual vulnerability has been reported on PikaPay. We nevertheless want to acknowledge all of the following security investigators who have sent in findings that we found especially interesting and useful. We have paid out rewards for each of these cases because we value the time, attention and insights that these particular contributors have submitted.

PikaPay says thanks for the following:

* The lone XSS vulnerability was discovered by Michael Blake.

* A low-impact _xsrf cookie-related issue involving a web framework we use submitted by a security researcher who has not yet requested acknowledgement. Unless we hear from him we will make a donation on behalf of his security submission to Project Pika.

* A report that certain server header information had been revealed was sent in by Sahil Saif.

* A minor Javascript bug that caused a page to continue loading longer than needed was found by Ben Holden-Crowther.

* The implementation of HSTS headers was suggested by Anand Prakash.

We appreciate the effort these security experts have contributed and thank them for their participation in our vulnerability bounty program.
8  Economy / Service Announcements / Free Bitcoins For Every Man, Woman and Child on: January 31, 2014, 02:01:00 PM

Help us send free Bitcoin to as many new users as possible!

Our mission to distribute free Bitcoin to every man, woman and child on the planet is now officially underway.

We've developed a new style of Bitcoin Fountain:

You can use it to help us in our goal to distribute as many bits as possible -- quickly and freely -- to everyone in the world.  Use it to get some free bits for yourself or to send to as many other people as you want.

The bitcoins are sent and received within seconds.  Our only restriction is that you only send free bitcoin to both senders and recipients who are real, established Twitter IDs.

To use PikaPay's Magic Bitcoin Fountain at just follow these steps:

  • Just fill in the recipient's Twitter ID where it says, "Enter Twitter ID Here,"
  • Then select "REWARD,"
  • Then sign in, and then
  • Press "DONATE."

* The technology behind the Fountain is completely customizable.

* Sponsorship opportunities are available.

* Please spread the word about it wherever you can.

If you like this idea and want to contribute to the Bitcoin sponsorship pool or to the development of new features, here is the Fountain's Bitcoin address:

9  Bitcoin / Legal / Amex Files Patent for "Transferring Value via a Social Network" on: January 06, 2014, 07:37:31 PM
We're curious about what others here think of this patent application.

I know they can't do anything about Bitcoin itself, but it does sound like Amex is trying to file a patent for our service. What should we do?

US Patent Request 20140006297 filed on July 2, 2013

An integrated, end-to-end, automated system that
enables a first social networking user to seamlessly
transfer value to a second social networking user, even if
the second user is not registered with the money transfer
service from which the first user initiates the transfer...

Our service:

Send Bitcoins to anyone on Twitter, as easy as a Tweet!

PikaPay is a Bitcoin wallet integrated with the Twitter API and is one of the easiest ways to use Bitcoin. Just like in the Amex patent, with PikaPay the recipient doesn't need to have a PikaPay account to receive bitcoins.

We were the first to start sending bitcoins on Twitter back in 2011. But we're sure that scores of other companies have been doing "value transfer via social networks" even earlier.
Do we have to take that Amex patent application seriously in any way, and is there anything specific we should do?

We Tweeted AmEx a little while ago.

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / One Country at a Time on: October 30, 2013, 12:03:58 PM
The Netherlands is an interesting small country with advantages for Bitcoin.  For the latest news see:

The Hacker News discussion about the article is also worth a look:

The fact that the penetration level is already high makes it a good test case.  What will happen when we establish a lot more Bitcoin activity there?

16  Bitcoin / Meetups / The Bitcoin Europe Conference After Party This Wednesday on: September 30, 2013, 12:50:54 PM
If you're still in town, join the rest of us.

The 4th Bitcoin Wednesday in Amsterdam will have a new location:

Cafe Brandstof, Marnixstraat 431 on the corner of the Rozengracht and right down the street from the Rosentheater -- where Bitcoin Europe was held.

We meet on 2 October, Wednesday night at 20:00

This time we'll have a semi-official After Party for the Bitcoin Europe Conference.  Some of us are still hanging around Amsterdam, and we'll get together.

Time: 20:00, Wednesday Night, 2 October

Location: Cafe Brandstof, Marnixstraat 431 (corner of Rozengracht, across from the Fire Station)

Thanks to the dedicated work of some Bitcoiners, Amsterdam now has its (I think first) restaurant that accepts Bitcoin.  A small Thai restaurant called Warie's, right across the street from Cafe Brandstof.  Food there is both delicious and affordable.  See

Register for Bitcoin Wednesday here ( and we'll know you're joining us.
17  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / PikaPay op on: September 11, 2013, 06:02:16 AM

18  Bitcoin / Project Development / [BOUNTY] PikaPay Special Announcements on: September 08, 2013, 11:08:03 AM

We are very grateful to the security researchers who spotted them.

We see security as a project that requires continuous improvement above  almost every other priority, and we appreciate the ongoing attention
received from the security community.

PikaPay thanks everyone who contributed so far.  We launched this program on March 18 (one of the first Bitcoin services to do this).  We intend to keep this program running and to disclose the results to make the community safer.

19  Bitcoin / Meetups / Bitcoin Wednesday - First Wednesday of the Month - Worldwide on: July 02, 2013, 01:37:31 PM

Call it a just coincidence or take part in one of the world's most exciting global tech revolutions.

Tomorrow, the first Wednesday of the Month, there will (by last count) Bitcoin Meetings in the following 9 cities:

    Buenos Aires

... and add your city here.

I'm posting this on the main board, because I think it's time to show worldwide solidarity and do whatever's needed to make this into a popular global movement.

Recent market research shows a quarter of U.S. consumers have heard of Bitcoin and the majority of them trust it. In some countries these numbers are even higher.

Join us and help spread the word: First Wednesday of the month is Bitcoin Wednesday.
