1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [TRC] terracoin update 0.1.3-36 on: April 15, 2013, 11:04:56 PM

FYI, new email received from trc mailing list this morning :

Re: [Terracoin-announce] terracoin update 0.1.3-36
From: TerraCoin <terracoin76@gm...> - 2013-04-15 12:51

Terracoin update 0.1.3-36 is now available for download at our
sourceforge and github repositories.

This build addresses some issues in the difficulty adjustment algorithm,
recently revealed by the massive adoption on the live blockchain.

The detailed change log will be published here once the patch is fully
applied on the network, here is a summary :

- overall network difficulty will respond slightly slower to big
variations in hashrate power

- averaged data used to compute targets will now be capped and adjusted
symmetrically, lowering the effect of malformed/erroneous inputs

- target will be capped in a symmetrical way

Once fully deployed, this build will provide more resilience to hashing
spikes and narrow down the difficulty variations.

Due to the impacted features, this build will be *MANDATORY* on block
_110322_.
This should occur in 2.5 to 6 days from now.

Sorry for the 3 mandatory updates in a row, the huge hashing variations
have to be contained so the whole blocks generation rate gets close to a
sane value.
Again, the full, detailed changelog will be exposed here once users
upgraded.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [TRC] [p2pool] terracoin update and p2pool orphans problem? on: April 12, 2013, 01:14:39 AM
is that me, or is p2pool generating 80% or more orphan blocks ?

Not just when the difficulty goes crazy, my installation just can't submit any non-orphan block :-)

anyone else having the same issue ?

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [TRC] new 0.1.3-30 mandatory update on: April 09, 2013, 08:24:37 PM

received 30 mins ago from trc mailing list:

Hi,

Urgent, mandatory build 0.1.3-30 is now available at our github
repository, windows builds were uploaded to sourceforge.

This build will be mandatory at block 101631. You may update your
terracoin installation now, the new algorithm will not be applied until
block 101631 is created.

This update provide a new difficulty computation mechanism, in order to
prevent the huge difficulty variations we saw the last few days, and
return to normal operations.

This algorithm uses a type of finite impulse response filter
(exponential moving average or EMA), to smooth out short-term
fluctuations in delay between blocks.

The last 2160 blocks are used to compute this ema (roughly 3 days worth
of blocks).

Some code was also added to speedup the return to normal operations, by
providing one-shot lower difficulties on blocks taking more than 20
minutes during the first 3 days following the update.

All branches are updated and available at our github & sourceforge
repositories.
Windows binaries are also available at our sourceforge.net mirror.

Will we finally get out of this ? Smiley
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ripple <-> TRC gateway on: March 05, 2013, 09:53:22 AM
Experimenting with ripple, i managed to successfully send TRC in and out of the system (using gateway from http://www.bitcoinreactor.com/ ) now i'm curious about TRC exchanges within Ripple : have anyone successfully trade those (custom currencies) on ripple ?

I've just sent really small amounts in here, because of the big beta warning, any tips/thought on this ?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [CANCELED] Buying XRP for BTC on: March 03, 2013, 06:30:33 PM

market mis a jour immediatement

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Terracoin - not too low ? on: October 31, 2012, 01:31:32 PM
Hi here,

i'm currently beeing quite interested in those new bitcoin alternate currencies appearing on github, and recently felt on this one : terracoin.org

This one have some pretty low internal "settings", similar to LiteCoin in some ways, but until now, i can't decide if those parameters may be good or not...

The two major "parameters" i'm talking about here are :

- 2 minutes per block

- difficulty adjustment every 30 blocks (1 hour)

While looking interesting at first, i don't really know what effect those will have on pools, and especially p2pool.
With such a small delay between two blocks, do you think p2pool can deal with this currency ?

Do you think pools may "just work" with that small 2 minutes timing ?

I guess i'll have to wait and see, dunno...
10  Other / Beginners & Help / cross-compiling bitcoin iwndows binaries under linux on: October 28, 2012, 11:38:23 AM
I can't post this in any developper-related forum (still a noob here :p) but for those interested in cross-compiling bitcoin windows binaries from your linux box, it appears that the new "TerraCoin" thing (i felt on that bitcoin fork, by wasting time on github this morning) published a highly detailed procedure today ( http://www.terracoin.org/ ).

makefile.linux-mingw was apparently slightly altered, but other files (excepting src/leveldb/port/port_win.cc which they also altered) looks quite identical to bitcoin current files.

I think i'll give a try to the whole thing tonight or in the next days, so i can give a try to that leveldb thing Smiley

[just wanted to share the info, it looks like many bitcoin users get troubles compiling windows bitcoin clients]
