62  Economy / Service Discussion / Which exchange is most robust, trustworthy? [POLL] on: April 12, 2013, 07:59:02 AM
I'm interested in BTC/anything as I'm mostly interested in selling and buying BTC and never intend to take fiat out, so it doesn't matter if its USD/EUR/CAD/etc.

Take all factors into consideration: security, scalability, usability.

EDIT: Since I made this poll, two important developments:

Bitcoin-24.com shutdown on Friday. Funds seem to be stuck.

Btc-e.com users are having trouble withdrawing coins.

Please read the entire thread before choosing an exchange.
63  Economy / Service Discussion / MtGox having many issues..lags, lost funds. Which exchange is next best? on: April 12, 2013, 06:16:23 AM
Ok so there are a lot of stories popping up that bitcoins dont show up on MtGox even after many confirmations.

Which is a decent functioning exchange? (no Nigerian exchanges please Smiley)
I just want to dump a few bitcoins and buy when they are low. Can't be sure I can do this on MtGox as of now.
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Thinking outside the Gox on: April 11, 2013, 01:49:32 PM
Its time we figured out a truly decentralized way to exchange btc for fiat. Title is not typo.

67  Economy / Speculation / Request to the players on: April 08, 2013, 09:36:03 PM
To whoever that is playing with the market.

Please hold off a big dump until we cross $1820, preferably this year... I need to pay off some loans.. Let me know a day or so before dumping.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Market depth of BTC vs LTC? on: April 03, 2013, 12:56:19 PM
Would like some data about market depths of the two currencies with USD or even each other?
How much volume of LTC would it take to move the market significantly, and same with BTC.

One of my friends want to buy BTC worth 1000 USD. The payment can be in INR and/or USD, and also via meetup in Bangalore. Please respond or pm me to discuss.
70  Economy / Speculation / How does it feel to have sold at X price the previous day? on: April 03, 2013, 08:56:54 AM
Title says it all. Just adding to the pool of recent "how does it feel" threads.
71  Local / India / How to make a failsafe wallet? on: April 01, 2013, 11:30:25 AM
So some of you will have a lot of BTC, and it is imperative that you secure them properly.
Here are some of the threats:

  • Trojans on your computer can steal your bitcoins
  • Online wallets where your private key is stored are not safe (they can get hacked (Bitomat, etc), or run away with your bitcoins

For storing large amount of bitcoins, the following wallets are not recommended
  • Instawallet (stores private key on server, url based secrecy)
  • Coinbase (stores private key on server)
  • Any exchange (mtgox, etc) (can get hacked any time)
  • Any wallet on Tor (can disappear anytime)
  • Closed-source or properietary wallets for which you need the actual software

Even the Bitcoin-qt wallet and blockchain.info wallets are not recommended for large amount of BTCBTCBTC. The best bet is to put your coins in cold-storage as described here (Hybrid Paper Wallet Tutorial)

Few things to note about using a blockchain.info or bitcoin-qt wallets. Always set to backup the wallet frequently.

The best thing to do would be create a offline paper wallet and regularly transfer all funds to that secure address. Be sure to keep multiple copies of the paper in case of fire, etc.

72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Litecoin !!!!! [please give me some LTC to experiment with] on: April 01, 2013, 08:57:48 AM
I had a few ltc but wasted them on experimenting. I also didn't steal the 6 LTC from the "circle of trust"  Cool
Can anyone spare a few LTC? also point me to some good LTC java libraries and web-wallets apart from btc-e.

I tried mining but getting only Hashes per second (No mega/kilo). Something wrong with my setup.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Extract bitcoinspinner private keys on: March 29, 2013, 07:53:47 AM
I have a bitcoin spinner wallet (cool app) with 0.007 btc. I need to extract them to my other wallet to use. The app neither lets me spend them (not enough fee) not lets me export keys to another different wallet.

When I export the key from bitcoinspinner, i get a text file with following content:
bsb:some-base58-encoded-string?net=0

From this page, I figured that the backup is just a seed to the key generator, so I need the actual key, not the seed.

http://code.google.com/p/bitcoinspinner/source/browse/trunk/BitcoinSpinner/src/com/miracleas/bitcoin_spinner/SettingsActivity.java?r=78&spec=svn85

Is there any way for me to import that key into blockchain.info?
I tried all different import options but it doesn't seem to work. That address is "watch only"
74  Economy / Speculation / Which is better Satoshidice or MtGox? on: March 28, 2013, 10:18:49 PM
Both are a gamble. If I want to make more bitcoins, which is a better strategy? dump and buy on Mtgox or play satoshidice? or a combination?
75  Economy / Speculation / How to "dump and buy"? Mt Gox is down. on: March 28, 2013, 10:06:43 PM

76  Economy / Speculation / Hmmmm 95 to 83 in < thirty minutes on: March 28, 2013, 09:22:42 PM

77  Economy / Speculation / Cyprots should thank their government on: March 28, 2013, 09:19:58 PM

78  Economy / Speculation / Looks like we are going to hit 1000 usd this year on: March 24, 2013, 06:31:08 PM
With the recent screwps.. Cyprus, Chase bank, etc. and so many new adopters, it looks like we will cross 1000 this year, a couple of years too soon in my opinion.. And im not complaining Cheesy
79  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin or Bitcon? on: March 24, 2013, 10:21:19 AM

80  Economy / Services / Will teach Scala programming for 1 BTC on: March 24, 2013, 08:15:08 AM
PM me to discuss mode of teaching, etc. Will work out details. Pre-requisites: Some java or other programming background.

Some background about Scala:

Its one of the more cooler languages since C, C++, Java, Python etc...
I'm not saying the above are not good, just that Scala has taken all the cool features from above and removed all the uncool ones.
