83  Economy / Service Discussion / blockchain.info wallet down again?? on: March 20, 2013, 11:52:48 AM
I tried connecting to my wallet. Getting error 500. Anyone else able to connect?
When I try to open using my wallet alias, I get the message:
Got error 157 'Unknown error code' from NDBCLUSTER

Blockchain.info used to be pretty stable but I've been seeing a lot of downtime lately.. Maybe I have started using the service more so I noticed.

Am I missing something?
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [resolved] *WARNING* Ripple to Bitstamp.net - BTC may disappear on: March 19, 2013, 01:05:49 AM
I posted on service discussion but I feel its appropriate here to warn others who might lose their XRPs/BTCs doing what I did.

Just for your own peace of mind, do not transfer large amount of BTCs from ripple.com to bitstamp.net using the method described here. Long story short, the 1 BTC I transferred disappeared (at least for now, until I get a response from them).

88  Other / Beginners & Help / Does the block size limit in 0.7 limit the maximum number of tx per second? on: March 18, 2013, 05:49:23 AM
We know that blocks can be mined at the rate of one every 10 minutes. Since 0.7 clients enforce a max block size, we also have an upper limit on the number of tx a block can contain, and therefore the total number of tx in an hour (or per second). If sites such as SatoshiDICE and others start spamming the blockchain with dust outputs, will that not eventually choke the network?

89  Other / Off-topic / How you you want someone to prove they are Satoshi? on: March 17, 2013, 11:11:54 AM
If someone claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, what would constitute as proof?

-- post a message from Satoshi's account in this forum?
-- sign a message from the genesis block public key?
-- move around funds from several initial unspent outputs?
90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mining with a quantum computer? on: March 14, 2013, 01:28:40 PM
Assume large scale quantum computers (QC) are built, and we move on to QC secure signature schemes.

What will be the impact of a QC on the ability to compute SHA256? I guess Grover's algorithm will atleast reduce the difficulty by a square root factor. So will a QC have any impact on mining? Will someone with a QC have an unfair advantage?
91  Other / Beginners & Help / Help me run CUDA on Vaio VPCZ128GG laptop [Bounty 0.1 BTC] on: March 12, 2013, 03:31:34 PM
I have a VPCZ128GG (256 GB SDD/8GB Ram hybrid graphics) with modded bios. I need to run a Bitcoin miner but the software does not recognize the graphics card. It says cuda not enabled. If someone can point me to the right (modded) driver or instructions on modding an official driver to get any gpu mining software to run, I will give a bounty of 0.1 BTC. I know there is a thread on this but its too long to go through http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony...280-print.html

The graphics are:

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M GPU with CUDA™ Technology (SPEED MODE) / Intel® HD Graphics (STAMINA MODE)

Only one bounty. Chance for newcomers to earn some bitcoin!

[EDIT: Question posted on Rugatu. Please post your answers there to get bounty.
92  Other / Off-topic / Unauthorized transaction on my debit card done without 3d secure. Who is liable? on: March 10, 2013, 09:39:11 AM
I have an Indian debit card and it has all the "3d secure" stuff, which I always use. However, on some sites (mostly overseas ones) I made some online purchases and they went through without going through the 3d secure process.

Yesterday I had two unauthorized transactions on my debit card of a significant amount done on a US site. I contacted the bank immediately and also the site where the tx was done. Both assured me that "it will be take care of". Today morning the bank calls me and says that "there is a chance that you will not get your money back since it is not a transaction done by you but by someone else." (wait, wtf??)

I am 100% sure my IPIN (the thing needed for 3d secure) is not compromised as I don't store it on my computer and it is fairly complex to guess. Therefore it was one of those transactions without IPIN.

Who is liable in such a case?
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How many coins will be lost due to people dying? on: March 06, 2013, 08:45:11 PM
Many keep their bitcoins so secure that only they can access them, without anticipating that they might one day die and take their bitcoins with them.

What are your plans for your coins after you die? How do you plan to make them (un)recoverable?
94  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Which is the best wallet to suit my requirements? on: January 08, 2013, 06:00:45 AM
I need to use Bitcoins on the go so need Android support. I may also sometimes need to access the same coins from laptop. So here are my requirements for a wallet:

1. A single wallet that is constantly synced on android and two or three laptops I use (e.g. like Dropbox)
2. Quick start-up, and "catching up"
3. Web-wallets are ok (then 1. and 2. will be satisfied) as long as I don't have to trust the provider. Even if he wants to he cannot steal my bitcoins.
4. Resistant to attacks from ISPs etc with very high probability.
5. Resistant to attacks from stolen phone/hard drive. (need strong password protection on wallet.. something like Keepass with a key-file which is not stored on Dropbox)

What is the best wallet that comes close to achieving all 5.
(1, 2, 5 are absolutely essential)
