I encountered a problem when trying to connect to bitcoind via CLI. I start bitcoind in daemon mode, reading all configuration from default config file but when i attempt to connect to daemon via RPC i get the error message stating: "couldn't connect to server".

I do not think I need to provide rpc related options when running a client as all information are mentioned in my config file. (Right?)

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I had the working commands until they have been flushed out from my bash history and i'm not able to replicate them from scratch. I would be much grateful if anyone could help me with this one so I can finally go to sleep. :-)

I'm trying to dump addresses from the wallet.dat using pywallet but the results confuse me. I expect to see all addresses visible via bitcoin-qt interface but when grepping the output from pywallet none of them are found.

Am I missing something?

Is there any chance I can download blockchain directly from FTP/HTTP? My problem is I had to switch back to Satoshi's client and now I have to wait until all the blocks are synchronized and it's taking so freaking long...

I tried to google it but probably used irrelevant keywords. The kick in the right place is all i need...

I would like to know whether services listed  in https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade#Dedicated.2FVirtual_Server_Hosting  and labeled as anonymous are truly anonymous. Meaning if they ignore requests from authorities to reveal IP address of the computer that submitted a registration, or any other logs that could lead to revealing the identity.

Not planning to do anything illegal just curious and i need to get 5 posts, so...
