1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Change riser power vs external PCIe power ratio possible ? on: November 08, 2020, 01:38:05 PM
Hey guys,

does someone know if its possible to change the ratio of how much power a card is drawing from the PCIe slot vs the additional 6 or 8 Pin power connector ?

Talking about Polaris (470 / 580 / ...) and  Navi platform (5700)
under linux.

Thanks in advance .

cheers

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / why ethereum pools don't use vardiff ? on: May 07, 2019, 09:03:42 PM
Hey,

wondering why all big ethereum pools don't use vardiff ?
I stumbled accross sammy007 comment here: https://github.com/sammy007/open-ethereum-pool/issues/10

Can someone explain me why vardiff on ethereum is a security issue ?

Thanks

3  Bitcoin / Pools / Pool Question: Hashrate distribution and chance to find a Block on: March 19, 2019, 10:09:14 AM
Hey guys,

lets face the following scenarios:

Scenario 1:
* 3 miners each 10 TH/s connect to one Pool Node.
* One work template for all connected miners.  (Work template = mining.notify in stratum -> Merkle branch, Coinbase 1/2, ...)
* 3 different nonce for the given work template

10T ---------> |                   |
10T ---------> |POOL Node 1|
10T ---------> |                   |

Scenario 2:
* 3 miners each 10 TH/s connect to different Pool Nodes.
* Three different work templates for three miners. ( 3x different Merkle branch )

10T ---------> |POOL Node 1|
10T ---------> |POOL Node 2|
10T ---------> |POOL Node 3|

In both Scenarios the pool nodes belong to the same pool operator and the miners to one customer.

The question: Is the chance to find a block in both scenarios equal or not ?

Short: 30THs hashing on one work templates vs 30THs - 3x 10THs hashing on three different work templates.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / RX470 - Linux performance - Aware of DAG problem on: September 13, 2017, 08:15:02 AM
Hey,

i'm fighting with low performance on my RX470 ubuntu 16.04.1 .
Hashrate is around 25,6 but even when i benchmark with claymores miner and lower DAG like 120 or even lower. Hashrate stucks at 25,6 .

Also tried all drivers from 16.10 up to 17.30.

Months ago i was able to pull 29 per card with this config. Does the claymore benchmark not work or is there any other problem around besides the DAG linux driver problem that lowers the hashrate ?

Thanks !

5  Bitcoin / Hardware / IBM DPS 2980AB random shutdown on: May 20, 2017, 07:35:43 AM
Hey guys,

got some headache here with IBM PDUs .

Have a bunch of IBM DPS-2980 AB-A Blade PDUs (2980W) and randomly the PDUs shutdown themselves. DC OK green light goes off .
Just turning off and on again it starts up and runs again... Shutdowns are from 10 mins to few days.
There is no overload and input voltage is stable arround 233V on the grid.

Does some experience the same with this PDUs ? For me it looks like a kind of safety feature from the PDU itself ?

Thanks
