Cross post from http://blog.storj.ioTo put it bluntly, Storjcoins (SJ0) will have value because they will be backed by a commodity—storage and bandwidth. Storage is a resource that literally every single computer user in the world requires whether it be cloud based or local storage. Bandwidth, while not used by everyone (let’s face it though, if you don’t have network access, you’re missing the best part of the computing world), is also a necessity for the majority of computer users. Right now we rely on manufacturers and corporations to provide these resources to us and, though we can set a market price through our demand, there are massive overhead costs we’ll always pay extra for in a centralized model (employees, data centers, shipping physical drives, etc). Storj’s applications will dramatically reduce these costs by allowing Bob, who has an extra 100GB of storage available and who only uses an average 20% of his available bandwidth, to sell these previously wasted resources to Alice, who needs 50GB to temporarily hold her raw images while she edits them. Bob doesn’t have a massive data center that requires constant, industrial-scale cooling, and he doesn’t have employees he has to pay to manage that 100GB to make sure that it’s functional. He just wants a few extra Storjcoins to offset the cost of his internet service or to exchange for a frappuccino. He also hates to see anything go to waste. Alice, on the other hand, doesn’t want to shell out $100 for a new hard drive when she knows she won’t need that storage in a month’s time, and she doesn’t want to leave a copy of her photographs on an insecure iCloud server that will charge her $100 for a hosting plan she may not even fully utilize. The solution is for Bob to sell Alice the space for a fraction of the cost. If Bob’s hard drive happens to fail, the Storj network will automatically repair itself to maintain 3-times redundancy of Alice’s data, and Bob will no longer receive Storjcoins until his node comes back online. Both parties benefit tremendously from this system as Bob is making an entirely passive income, and Alice can gain access to extra storage space with only a few clicks and at minimal cost. Also, Alice doesn’t have to worry about prying eyes viewing her data as it’s shredded across the network to hundreds of different users and fully encrypted so that no one can access it except for her. Let’s get back to the value of Storjcoin. Referring to the above example, it’s clear to see the benefits a decentralized cloud storage solution offers to both storage consumers and providers over traditional, centralized methods. People are already paying (too much) for insecure cloud storage with high overhead costs right now. Storjcoin will become the new unit of account for disk space and the bandwidth required to access it because this system is clearly superior to the one in place. Instead of paying $2/GB to Apple for an inferior product, you can pay a fraction of that to someone just like you.

What is Metadisk?Metadisk is the first storage focused blockchain-distributed web application, which means that there is no central authority or entity that controls your data. Metadisk runs on top of the Storj prototype platform, which allows users to sell their hard drive space for coins. How does it work? After the file is encrypted and uploaded, a SHA-256 hashing algorithm will be applied, which produces a hash of the file that serves both as a unique identifier and a way to detect file tampering. The generated hash will then be stored in a block chain entry. Metadisk communicates with the Storj network to find available storage resources, then transfers the encrypted file to three (3) separate locations. This 3-time storage complies with the cloud storage redundancy standard. Because all data that enters the network is encrypted, malicious nodes and thieves cannot open, copy or modify files, because they do not have access to the decryption keys for them. The current functions and specifications that Metadisk offers are just a small prototype of Storj. Metadisk allows us to experiment with many methods and algorithms, while still providing user security, privacy, scalability, and cost savings over many current cloud storage systems. Screenshot

MaidSafeCoin's "IPO" did $5+ million in a couple of hours, and has ended. The prices are listed on the exchange are below the IPO price, and it just got listed on CoinMarketCap. Seems like when everyone wakes up MaidSafeCoin is primed for a massive pump. Combined with the fact that its not just an altcoin, that the have tons of code and software written, and working on this for 7 years or so make the innovation pretty high.
What do you guys think? Am I crazy?

Look for C++ coders, and/or those who know their way around coin source code. Preferable those who have/or can create/modify coins. Linux and Git experience is a must. Python is a plus but not required. For those who don't know me I've worked on various projects in the Bitcoin space including: - Bitcoin Core Development
- Peercoin Web Lead
- Primecoin Web Lead
- Storj - Decentralized Storage
- Coingen.io
- Contract work with Invictus/BitShares/Protoshares
I get a ton of people, including large and starting Bitcoin companies, that approach me for coin work/developers and I've run out of people to refer them to. Wanted to see if there were a few people lurking around here creating altcoins for cheap whose skills could be put to better use, and earning way more. Last time I checked Bitcoin developer salaries started at around $100k. Also looking for others to add to my core team that works on a variety of top level projects, or freelance for small tasks. Please post any of your work here and/or what skills you have related to coin development. Please don't PM.

Key FeaturesStorj is a software project seeking to develop a next-generation cloud storage solution that improves upon existing cloud storage providers in four key areas of the service provided. Less expensive for the same industry standard redundancy, uptime, and reliability; Preferably client-side encryption and hashing automatically enforced prior to upload so all data on the Storj network is encrypted and anonymized; Open source code released under the MIT license; Decentralized, autonomous, and implements multiple blockchains thereby making it resistant to interruptions of service and security risks. A key project development goal is for Storj to include a blockchain-based dual purpose token scheme that serves as: 1. An incentive payment mechanism within the Storj network between consumers and providers of storage space and bandwidth 2. An information storage mechanism to record the hash and location of files stored in the Storj network. Storj won first place in the Texas Bitcoin Conference 2014 hackathon contest, by unanimous decision. The prize is a guaranteed $250,000 donation from the backers at BitAngels for their initial round of “kickstarter-style” crowdfunding soon to be announced. Storj team members Shawn Wilkinson and James Lowry made the final scheduled presentation of the contest, which included a working proof of concept software demo. The founding devs are now getting the alpha software ready for general testing release while putting the finishing touches on the whitepaper and crowdfunding model. Storj is a proposed decentralized storage system that seeks to disrupt the cloud storage industry by dramatically lowering costs to cloud storage users. It would do this by paying incentives to storage providers in the form of a "blockchain-based dual purpose token" that would also store information about file integrity and storage locations. The Storj network would autonomously issue, collect, and distribute these tokens so that users could pay for storage and be paid for providing storage. All data would be encrypted, preferably client-side, before being uploaded to the network. We believe that Storj should simply be a mechanism for users to store their data, and the end user should have control over their data and privacy. Web NodesAt the Texas Bitcoin Conference 2014 we debuted a proof of concept web node for Storj. We have since been refining that software. You may upload your files to these web nodes and after about 10 minutes your files become accessible network wide. This requires no central server. Any web node connects to the prototype blockchain and may upload and download files at very little cost. This software will be made available to early backers and supporters. New CryptocurrencyMost cryptocurrencies use their blockchain as a ledger for coin balances. We would also like to use the blockchain to store information about file integrity and storage locations using structured metadata. To this end we will be releasing details about a new cryptocurrency that allows us to accomplish this and get our network running immediately with the help of our web nodes. We will be including this new cryptocurrency as part of our crowdfunding model. WhitepapersMany of you are hungry for the technical details. We have received great technical and conceptual feedback from Maidsafe and BitAngels. We are in the process of rewriting out initial whitepaper and finalizing crowdfunding details and timeline. Special ThanksBitAngels, esp. David Johnston and Jeremy Kandah - For your continuing input and support. Jeff Garzik (jgarzik) - For technical and concept help. Gregory Maxwell (gmaxwell) - For the initial seed concept and discussion thread. Maidsafe, esp. David Irvine and Nick Lambert - Hackathon input, mentoring and continuing conceptual synergy. Mastercoin Foundation - hackathon support, input and mentoring.

Link: http://protoshares.netCurrently listed on #8 on minable coins on CoinMarketCap. Around 250,000 page views on the site so far. This is the same website listed on CoinMarketCap. Don't have the time to manage it so I figure I would just sell it to the highest bidder.

Abstract:Cloud storage services have grown to fill the growing need for consumers to store and organize their data. While these services work well enough for most needs, they have several inherent flaws related to cost and security. This paper proposes a system that allows users to sell their computer storage space back to a network in return for an digital incentive. This converts what would be unused storage space into a low-cost storage network. Furthermore, layers of encryption and hashing are added to provide unbreakable digital security. Download Link:Paper Link #1Info:This paper is a bit of a brain dump on decentralized storage for me. Wanted to get it out there, and get some general feedback on my approach. The link to the paper is actually hosted on a proof of concept web node for a Distributed Storage System that I will be showing off at the Texas Bitcoin Conference tomorrow. Let me know if the link breaks. Note it might take longer than normal to download, as the server may have to retrieve it from the network.

Need a well produced promo video for ArmoryGuide.com to show off some of the best features of Bitcoin Armory. The video needs to focus on the following major features. - Multi-wallet Interface
- Paper Backups
- Offline Transactions
The video should show the client in operation for each one of these features. Should also include footage of the USB being transferred from online computer to offline computer. Basically what I'm looking for video that uses short cuts to show off live operation of the Bitcoin Armory client in a cool way. This is just a rough framework. If you are interested just post your qualifications and any previous work.

At the Bitcoin Miami conference Bitcoin developers(TheBlueMatt, Luke-Jr, and Super3) and members of the community discussed very important issues. Out of those discussed we generated a concept of Pizzacoin with the with Innovative Proof-of-Pizza. It is extremely ASIC resistant, and allows merged cooking in the same oven. There is absolutely no pre-mine. Might be a little pre-baked...What is Pizzacoin?Listen to our discussion about Pizzacoin on Soundcloud. How do I get Pizzacoin?Pizzacoin is a community funded effort. The genesis pizza's address is 1 pieg46FSLknCyfnvW6mLLavV8hShV9BW. Funds "expenses," food for developers, and pizza blocks. Current price per pizza for the IPO is as follows. Day 1 - 1 BTC = 1 Pie Day 2 - 1 BTC = 1/2 Pie Day 3 - 1 BTC = 1/4 Pie etc... With pizza reward for the funding period halving everyday. When will Pizzacoin be released? We estimate development time will be 2 weeks tm. More InfoPizzacoin Whitepaper: Joe White is working on the whitepaper. Pizzacoin Sourecode and Binaries: 2 weeks tm. So I recently acquired http://coingen.io/, and I wanted some community feedback on how to proceed. There are definitely certain ways this could go. One just floods the marketplace, two gets more people playing around with source code, three(and best) provides incentive to improve Bitcoin development by 2x or 3x ( see Luke-Jrs Idea). 1) Development:I want to know what people actually want to see as improvements to the generator in once place. So far I've heard: - Add Primecoin Proof-of-Work
- Add Peercoin Proof-of-Stake
- Create your Own Genesis Block
- Better Seednode Handling
2) Funding: Obviously people want features now rather than later, and I'm only one guy. Obviously the profit from the tool can probably reach 100-200 BTC by the end of the month at current rates. But we all know a month is like a decade in Bitcoin time(we could be at the moon by then), and I'd rather start make improvements now rather than a few weeks and be smart about it. - Resell Method - Not opposed to reselling the code to another interested party(PM me). Would be enough to fund my CoinDocs project(Bitcoin Documentation) or some of the work I wanted to do with Bitcoin Agents.
- Open Source Buyout - Could do something like what Blender did and have the community buyout the code and open-source it. Obviously some of these funds would be for development.
- Equity Based - Keep everything how it is, but allow the community to place funds toward the development of new features. Once that feature is developed, if you want it included in your coin you must pay the fee which is then awarded back to the users who funded it proportional.
