1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Bitcoin-Denominated Poker Chips on: September 29, 2012, 01:20:08 AM
I've been thinking of putting my regular home poker game on the "bitcoin standard", and thought that it might be fun to make a set of real-world, bitcoin-denominated poker chips. Below you see my design for the chips I'm thinking of making. They will be casino-quality, 10g ceramic, 39mmx3mm chips.

The denominations I've chosen are those I think would be most useful for home games. It's interesting to note that, since bitcoin is likely to deflate over time, then chips that will be issued later will be for tinier fractions of the monetary unit.

I was wondering whether anyone else might be interested in purchasing a set of such chips from me for their own games? (I would, of course, accept payment in BTC.)
2  Economy / Economics / Bitcoin price being artificially stabilized? on: June 15, 2011, 09:44:58 PM
It seems that since the wild swings of the weekend, that the price of Bitcoin has stabilized right below $20. For several days now, there's been barely any swinging at all, but it also looks to me like there's been pretty high volume.

So, my question is: could it be that someone with a lot of Bitcoin and an interest in seeing relatively stable prices (at least for right now) be running a trading script that is acting like a "shock absorber" on the market, placing bids and asks that effectively dampen the price effects of the relatively smaller trading power of speculators?
3  Economy / Marketplace / [CLOSED] [AUCTION] The Second Flying Logic Bitcoin Auction! on: June 12, 2011, 10:02:37 PM
The Second Flying Logic Bitcoin Auction!

Flying Logic Pro is a popular graphical planning tool, known as "The Spreadsheet for Rational Thought." It runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux, and normally costs USD 225. But this winner of this 5-day auction will receive a Flying Logic Pro license for as little as a BTC 0.1! That's right, minimum bid is one-tenth of a Bitcoin!

Check out the software, and download a free 30-day trial here:

http://flyinglogic.com

• Each bid must be posted publicly in this thread.
• Minimum bid is BTC 0.1. There is no reserve price.
• All subsequent bids must be in minimum BTC 0.1 increments.
• NEW PRIVATE MAXIMUM BIDDING: If you want to make a private maximum bid, PM me the amount. You can still make public bids if you wish. If someone outbids you publicly and your private maximum bid is greater, I will publicly enter a new bid for you that's BTC 0.1 greater than the lower public bid. This will prevent you from being "sniped" at the last second by a bid that's just BTC 0.1 over yours, as long as it's under your maximum. If there are no public bids and you put in a private maximum bid, then a public bid for BTC 0.1 will be entered in your name. When the auction closes the person with the highest public bid will win. Private maximum bids will not be publicly revealed.
• The auction will end at 11:59 PM PDT on Friday June 17, 2011.
• The winning bidder will be announced here after the auction close.
• If there is any contention about who wins the auction, then I will decide and my decision will be final.
• Upon auction conclusion, forum PM will be used to provide a Bitcoin receiving address to the winner, and upon receipt of payment in full, the activation code will be provided by return PM.
• The purchased activation code is not tied to a particular identity, and can be redeemed by the auction winner or transferred to another party. The party that actually redeems the code will receive the license key that unlocks the software.

Post any questions here, and good luck!

5  Other / Obsolete (selling) / [CLOSED] [TWO-DAY BTC AUCTION] Flying Logic Software on: May 11, 2011, 08:41:53 PM
My previous offer to sell my software for a fixed amount of BTC had no takers. This is not terribly surprising given:

1) This audience is not pre-sold on my software, and
2) The value of BTC is going up rapidly right now, so any price a merchant names is likely to seem too high in a very short time.

So, I'm going to try a different tack and let the Bitcoin community name its own price. Flying Logic Pro sells normally for USD 225. But this winner of this short auction will receive a Flying Logic license for as little as a single Bitcoin!

Check out the software here:

• Each bid must be posted publicly in this thread.
• Minimum bid is 1 BTC. There is no reserve price.
• All subsequent bids must be in minimum 1 BTC increments.
• The auction will end at 11:59 PM PDT on Friday May 13, 2011.

6  Economy / Marketplace / [CLOSED] [Selling] Productivity Software: Flying Logic and Consistency on: April 23, 2011, 07:50:25 PM
Hi Bitcoiners!

Recently I posted my thoughts on Bitcoin on my blog, and some of you were nice enough to read it— I even got a few tips!

http://ironwolf.dangerousgames.com/blog/archives/1063

In addition to occasional blogging, I also write software and run Sciral.com. We make some rather unusual productivity applications: Sciral Consistency and Flying Logic.

http://sciral.com/consistency
http://flyinglogic.com

For my next baby step into the world of Bitcoin, I am offering a limited number of licenses for each of these products to the Bitcoin community at special rates:

• 20 licenses of Sciral Consistency (Mac) (regular 25.0 USD each, you pay 9.0 BTC).
• 20 licenses of Sciral Consistency (Windows) (regular 25.0 USD each, you pay 9.0 BTC).
• 20 licenses of Flying Logic Pro (Mac, Windows, Linux) (regular 225.0 USD each, you pay 75.0 BTC).

These are fully paid single-user licenses. Consistency licenses are tied to either Mac or Windows (so make sure you specify which you want), while Flying Logic licenses can be used on any of the three platforms.

For now, our store doesn't take Bitcoin directly, so we will conduct the transaction through e-mail at the following address. Feel free to ask questions on this thread or privately here:

bitcoin@sciral.com

1. If you'd like to purchase, e-mail your order and I'll send you your personal Bitcoin receiving address.
2. Once I receive your BTC payment in full, I'll send you your license keys.
3. There is no step three.

If the licenses sell out then great! I'll announce that here, and we'll consider making more available, or possibly accepting Bitcoin on an unlimited basis.

This offer will be good for 7 days, ending Saturday April 30.

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Odd pattern in BitcoinMonitor on: April 14, 2011, 09:48:04 AM
I looked at BitcoinMonitor.com this evening and noticed this strange descending line of transactions. Each transaction has a fixed 0.05 BTC amount and the remainder in "change". Any ideas about what's up with this?

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Blog Post: It's Not Too Late To Send Me Money on: March 27, 2011, 12:34:04 PM
Hello all. I've just joined the Bitcoin world, and thought I'd kick it off with a blog post: Bitcoin: It's Not Too Late To Send Me Money. I'd be interested in hearing your feedback on it.
