1  Bitcoin / Project Development / After a LONG hiatus - MinerStatus is back (at least, a little bit) - 0.9 Release on: January 02, 2012, 01:58:40 PM
I moved across country, survived a HD crash and finally got around to re setting up my Android dev space.  As such, I'm back about 4 months after I said I'd be, but here goes nothing:

MinerStatus 0.9.4 release
Quote
BugFixes & Feature Additions:
- Made it so that the vibrate on notification actually works (requires VIBRATE permissions when you update)
- Clicking the notification auto-dismisses it and launches the application

KNOWN ISSUE:
- Ozcoin is broken due to an API change on their end.  This will be fixed soon.

NEW:
- Fixing BtcGuild's JSON
- Adding Triplemining (yes, finally!)

Removed:
- Excahnge Bitcoins
- Tradehill (/cry)
- RFCPool
- Mineco.in

I have a sizable backlog of bugs/features to address, but if you'd like to add to it:  minerstatus@trumpetx.com.  I'm not really "in to" bitcoins much anymore, but I'm rooting for them Smiley

2  Economy / Goods / [SOLD] 2x 5770 @ 219 MHash each OC'd - $75 incl. shipping in US48 on: September 04, 2011, 12:41:51 AM
One was used as my primary display, the other has been mining since April.

The dedicated 5770 was pushing 220 MHash before I turned off my mining rig.  Unfortunately, I recently moved and power here is almost 50% higher than where I was staying before hence the sale of my lower end mining equipment.

I will accept Dwolla or BTC at the 24hr MtGox average - whichever you prefer.

$75 ea. each incl. shipping costs to anywhere in US (except AK & HI).  Shipping to Canada, HI or AK can be negotiated.

3  Other / Off-topic / Question : Using CPU/GPU to crack a Locklizard protected PDF? on: June 24, 2011, 08:15:04 PM
First of all, this is a hypothetical question.  My wife is a composer.  Her publisher uses Locklizard to send her PDFs, and I casually mentioned that it's silly that he bothers to password protect the PDFs as they can be cracked relatively easily (not to mention, who wants to steal what he's sending her anyway, but still - that's beside the point)

I'm not a hacker/cracker, just an ordinary programmer who thinks DRM is silly, and I wanted to show my wife "proof."

Lets say I am in possession of a locklizard protected PDF which is legally owned by me.  How would I go about brute force attacking it with a GPU/CPU?
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / MinerStatus 0.8.8.6 Beta Release - Getting closer and closer to 1.0 ! on: June 21, 2011, 06:30:46 AM
0.8.8.6
Quote
- Adding RFC Pool
- Adding ArsBitcoin
- Adding EclipseMC

0.8.7
Quote
- Adding Eligius Pool

0.8.6
Quote
- Added support Mineco.in (watch out for l vs. I when typing your API key)

- Created a workaround for a relatively major bug which is associated with this Android issue affecting all pre-2.3 Android versions:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7074

This has the effect of no longer displaying "Did not receive a response from the server" every other time you try to refresh statistics.

This will also fix the same issue with the widget making the widget work every time (hopefully).

0.8.5
Quote
In conjunction with the widget, MinerStatus now provides notifications if your hashrate drops below a certain level (configurable in the options.)

This is on by default, but can be disabled in the options as well.

At this time, the widget and notifications work together and can only track one miner at a time.

Notifications will not work unless the widget is active on one of your home screens.

Notifications will appear if your hashrate drops below the given value set in the options

0.8.4
Quote
- Adding Ozco.in mining pool

- WIDGET IS HERE!  It's also in absolute Alpha/Beta style mode.  I know there are bugs!  Please send any and all bugs to minerstatus@trumpetx.com

Known Issues:
- Cannot add > 1 Widget (support for multiple widgets will be implemented later)
- Adding / removing widgets in random orders can sometimes lead to force closes.
- "Configure in MinerStatus" comes up when it's already configured.

0.8.3
Quote
- The Widget is coming soon!  Adding a NON-FUNCTIONAL widget to the package.  Next release will have some basic widget stuff.

- Fixing some display issues when MinerStatus fails to connect (hiding the time and the extra row)

- Adding Exchange Bitcoins (yet another exchange) for ticker stats.

- Refactored lots of code.  Won't make it much faster, but it's sure prettier to read the code.

0.8.2
Quote
- Adding two new options to edit for users

#1) Max Errors before a Miner is removed

This value (defaults to 10) determines if a miner will be auto-removed after X consecutive errors.  These errors are usually connection timeouts when trying to get the statistics from the server.  Setting this to 0 will prevent a miner from being removed.

#2) Connection Timeout

This value is the number of seconds your phone will wait before a connection is established before throwing a timeout error (see above).

0.8.1
Quote
- Adding worker stats & total hashrate for Slush's Pool (Bitcoin Pooled Mining)

0.8.0
Quote
Adding Tradehill Exchange support to mirror Mt.Gox statistics.  Toggle visibility on the options page.

Upcoming Features for the 0.8.x Releases:
- A Widget !!!
- More pools (as they come up with JSON stats)
note: bitcoins.lc and Eligius are not currently supportable due to a lack of JSON stats page.  Convince your pool operator(s) to create an accessible JSON stats page, and I'll add support ASAP!

Features for 0.9.x:

5  Other / Obsolete (selling) / BitcoinSafe.net on: June 13, 2011, 03:32:23 PM
Domain for sale.

1 bitcoin

You can initiate transfer to a new host or I can push the domain to an Enom subaccount on my reseller account.  Either way, you have full control of the domain once sold.

I had plans to make a "wallet backup" site, but my extra coding time has been spent on the MinerStatus android application and no longer have plans for this domain.
6  Other / Obsolete (selling) / bitcoinsafe.net on: June 06, 2011, 04:52:22 PM
Bitcoinsafe.net = Domain for sale.

Asking a very nominal 3 btc obo.

I had designs of making a site where people could upload backups of their wallet files.  (perfect name for the site)  However, I put my time and effort into building the MinerStatus Android app instead.  I do not have time to pursue this domain name.

I am an enom reseller so I will push the domain to a subaccount for you to take over.  You're free to continue hosting on the subaccount or transfer the domain elsewhere (obviously, because you'd own the domain).  The domain is registered until Mar.26.2012.

7  Bitcoin / Project Development / MinerStatus 0.7.7 Beta Release - Last release of .7.x tree on: May 24, 2011, 01:58:06 PM
0.7.7

Bugfix:

Fixing a crash error when a btcguild or swepool API key had 0 associated workers to the account.

Fixing a crash error on the View Miner Detail page when Mt.Red returns nothing for "Round Solved"

0.7.6

Quote
*New feature:
BitMine status now has both workers and user statistics

*Bugfix:
Some force-closes have been fixed when first adding a BTCGuild API key

0.7.5

Quote
- KNOWN ISSUE:
-- BitcoinPool's JSON is messed up.  I can't fix it. (http://bitcoinpool.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=237) EDIT: RESOLVED
-- Some users at Mt.Red are having issues.  There's something going on with the JSON for hashrate where it displays "false" instead of a decimal number.  I don't feel like coding around this since it will probably be fixed soon.  Bug MtRedMining in #mtred on IRC.  He is good peoples.

- BUGFIX:
-- Moving Deepbit to https instead of http which *seems* to fix the problem with Deepbit.  PLEASE let me know if Deepbit is still broken for you.  Also, mail me your API key so I can debug.  Thanks! (minerstatus@trumpetx.com)

- FEATURE ADDITIONS:
-- By request, hitting the back button will go back after a "key up" instead of a "key down."
-- You can now delete miners directly from the options menu.

0.7.4.5

Quote
-- Fixing many Null Pointer errors which happened with Deepbit quite a lot.  If you've been having problems with Deepbit, go ahead and give it another go and email me if you have more crashes.

0.7.4

Quote
- Adding Mt. Red Pool
- Removing JodaTime library which will make this application MUCH smaller on your device
- Changed the date format (due to JodaTime removal) to a readable date (e.g. May 30, 2011 3:45 PM.)
- Truncated some decimal fields for some pools due to really, really long numbers which pushed data off the side of the screen.

0.7.3

Quote
-Added Swepool

0.7.2.5

Quote
-Changing the method of detecting whether a client is offline or online.  The previous code used for detection did not work in all cases.  Thanks to deathnetworks for the tip.

0.7.2

Quote
- Bugfixes
- Added http://bitclockers.com/ Pool (http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=10127.0)

FIXED: Turning on Airplane mode or otherwise shutting off your data will now inform the user that there is no data connection.

Reported by Dark (May 25, 2011)
Pop on the internet activity check so the 'will delete message doesn't spam if we forget to put data on

0.7.1

Quote
- Refactored the code to produce a faster updating process.
- Added some historical record keeping on pool data (not doing anything with this yet - graphs maybe?)
- Added BTC Guild Pool
- Fixed issues with https & Mt. Gox

More features coming soon, this was more of a bugfix release.

8  Bitcoin / Project Development / MinerStatus - Call for update requests on: May 19, 2011, 09:33:12 PM
It's been about 3 weeks since I've released an update for MinerStatus which is related to me doing some moonlighting work for pay.  YAY for getting paid.

I should be finishing this up very soon, and I wanted to put a call out for feature requests & pools to include in my next release (lots of new pools have popped up!)

If you're not familiar with Miner Status, you can download it for your Android phone from the Android Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.davidgreene.minerstatus

I have plans on adding some Mt. Gox trading calls, but I'm hesitant to do so because this would involve my application storing some of your mt.gox info.  I'd honestly rather not do that due to obvious calls for me being a haxxorz.  This "feature" will be delayed until I can figure out how to do this securely and without you having to trust me.  This might not be possible.

What other features do you all want?

What other pools do I need to add (please note: additional pools will need some sort of JSON stat page for me to query.) ?

As always, donations (see sig) help to convince me to work on this project more.  I've only received 1 btc donation so far (thanks!), more would be neato.  I don't need to get rich, but if you're a satisfied customer, throw .1 btc my way whydontcha.

9  Bitcoin / Mining / What should I expect if I'm solo mining? on: May 03, 2011, 10:12:48 PM
I'm using the Phoenix miner @ ~ 162Mhash/sec

Up until now I've been mining with bitcoinpool.com.  But after some hack attempts and some connectivity issues with the pool, I've decided to give solo mining a whirl.  I'll probably do something like mine for a month and then rejoin the pool regardless of if I find a block(s) or not.

I've set up my bitcoin.exe -server with a fancy dancy username and password and I have phoenix crunching away with my personal wallet as the (hopefully) lucky recipient.

1) I realize my chances of finding a block are pretty small, but lets just assume I do.  What happens?  Does my wallet just go up by 50 btc one day and I'm like WTF I R rich!?

2) I saw a btc video shortly after the /. story about some guy running a mining rig and he said something like "transaction fees are almost more profitable these days."  How do I get paid these transaction fees?  Again, do they just randomly show up in my balance?  What's up with that?

3) Phoenix miner shows my Mhash/sec, but shows 0 accepted/rejected.  I assume that's there cause I'm not mining with a pool and there's no one to accept or reject my stuff.  I just crunch numbers and hope I hit the jackpot.  Do I have this configured correctly?

PS- The bitcoinpool.com folks are REALLY cool.  They've even taken care of the "Issues" I mentioned earlier...  I don't want this post to somehow construe them in a negative light.

PPS- Thanks for your helpful responses in advance Smiley
10  Bitcoin / Project Development / Blackberry App? on: April 28, 2011, 01:25:13 PM
http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/search/bitcoin?lang=en

Would anyone be interested in a port of MinerStatus to Blackberry?

I don't use a blackberry, but I just made our company's BB app so I'm now familiar with the framework and I see it as a couple days of work to port my MinerStatus app to BB Appworld.

If there's not enough interest, I won't bother.  Shoot me an email @ minerstatus@trumpetx.com if you have any private thoughts to share or post here.

XPost from bitcoinpool.com - http://www.bitcoinpool.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7

Hi everyone,

Last week I asked our gracious bitcoinpool.com host to provide some JSON data for active users, and he obliged.  So now, the data is being put to good use!

https://market.android.com/details?id=me.davidgreene.minerstatus&feature=search_result

Yes, it's ugly (very utilitarian)
Yes, it works
Yes, there will be new releases with new features.
An iPhone app will come AFTER I'm done with a 1.0 Android release.

I do plan to add functionality for new pools in the future, but for now I'm focusing on Bitcoinpool as I add more of the "basic" features.

If you use it and love it, rock out a donation -> 1Eyr5mN54UyprUHAw1zXLvkvtDNeG9erD7
If you want to contribute, but don't want to part with your hard earned bitcoin, download ->try -> GIVE FEEDBACK (good and bad!)  Try to stick with feedback where I can do something about it though; "Bitcoins suck" is bad feedback.  For now, respond to me here or minerstatus@trumpetx.com

Thanks again to Geebus for opening up his data!

If you're a bitcoin pool operator and want to open up your data in a similar way, contact me @ minerstatus@trumpetx.com

PS- Feel free to post on either thread, I'll monitor both.  If you really want to get a hold of me, shoot me an email - that's the fastest way.
