3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / pci-e 1x to 1x on: January 24, 2014, 05:09:59 PM
this seems like a noob question but I searched and did not find a topic about it. can we use 1x to 1x to go from a card into ether a 1x slot or a 16x slot? I know we would have to cut a notch in the card side to fit it but I was wondering since these may be cheaper and easier to deal with being a smaller riser

thanks

5  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / CARD WITH ARTIFACTS worth anything? on: November 06, 2013, 03:21:44 PM
my friend has a 6950 2gb that he says produces artifacts after a couple min of use. So I have two questions (btw I mine LTC)

1- would this effect mining at all? or could I take this off his hands for cheap and just mine it into the ground?

2- I also have a 6950 2gb in my gaming desktop that I put to mine when I am not on my computer. Would it work to use my friend's as the SECOND card for cfx and plug my displays into my current card? Would I still see artifacts?

thanks

7  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / MSI 770-g45 with 3 or 4 cards + two PSUs?? on: July 15, 2013, 02:38:17 PM
I have two questions.
1. How many cards could I use on my MSI 770-g45 mobo? I have two pciex16 slots and like three 1x slots. I have a 1x to 16x powered riser arriving today because I already have two cards in the x16 slots. I searched and found nothing about this mobo.

2. POWER. I have two 550w supplies and would need them both to power the same rig to use more than two 6950s. Could I do this-

http://www.overclock.net/t/15751/info-can-i-use-two-power-supplies-with-one-computer

and just turn the spare psu on first, then the rig with the main one?

Thanks

I bought two 6950's for 190$ each a couple months ago and this looks like a great bang for buck deal for anyone starting up. Great cooler on it too. Am I wrong? Each of these cards should pull 500khash/sec for some litecoin awesomeness.

Just letting people know! I am tempted, but not sure if my OCZ 550w could handle any more cards.

I start the guiminer in deepbit pool with my email and the miner's password that I set up, and for device have it on my xeon cpu with all but one cores checked. I click start mining. it says "no json object can be decoded" and then "IO errors - 1, tolerance 2         starting..."

sorry everyone- I needed _worker1 after my email... it didn't say that... tried to delete this post but it didn't let me
12  Other / Beginners & Help / invest in bitcoin a good idea with ASICs around the corner? on: February 19, 2013, 04:25:37 PM
If there is already a post about this can someone point me there? I could not find one. So anyway, am I right or wrong in saying-

1. the new ASIC chips are shipping next month
2. they are guaranteed to drive up difficulty
3. difficulty going up is guaranteed to drive bitcoin value up
4. investing in bitcoin before March with the intent of selling it back within a couple months has a very high porbibility of being profitable.

Thoughts?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / gtx 460 (768mb) profitability in mining TODAY on: February 12, 2013, 03:46:16 PM
Yes, I am a noob, and haven't started mining yet. I am trying to find out if mining on my dual EVGA GTX 460 rig would make a profit. I have found forums about it but they are all from like 2011 and I know that something changed with difficulty or something last month, so it is impossible to find up to date information on my cards. I also know that depending on the pool I join my return could vary.

In Baltimore I think I pay like 8.98 cents per K/hr. And I am pretty sure each of my cards would make like 60-70 mHash/sec

I don't need to know exactly how much I could make, but does anyone know if it would be worth my time to bitcoin mine for profit? Or is there just no chance because of difficulty and my cards being Nvidia?

thanks
