3  Other / Meta / What The Heck Is going on here? on: November 26, 2015, 11:20:37 PM
I woke up this morning to 17 new messages on my bitcointalk account. all 17 were deleted posts. all the deleted post messages show that they came from "guest" none of them give a reason, many of the original posts are weeks old....

I dont actually get it. am i being attacked? nothing that got deleted was even slightly controversial, none of the posts were spammy or unconstructive... what unifies them is basically how innocuous they all were...

i dont have time to put all the deleted posts up here, but here are the last 3, just for a taste of whats happening...

It will certainly make arbitrage easier, and as a result stabilize the price. Of course the fat cats will manipulate the hell out of it and every hacker out there is going to target it. Interesting nonetheless. I will watch this

Taringa doesn't display properly on my device, I'll have to see if it looks better when I'm at my desktop. From what I could see it looked like a bunch of copy pasta memes n stuff. No different than the other social media sites. I'll also have to do some Google translating to see how original the original content is.
Maybe the paid contributors do a better job?
I belong to empeopled which pays for posts, comments and up votes. It's ok. Not very big and entirely just posted links. I'd like to see the idea take off though. Especially if it would generate some actual original original content

I was just reading something that mike Hearn wrote over at zapchain; I think it's really good news that bigger financial institutions are getting involved. It lends a lot of credibility. However it's also a time limited offer: right now there's a lot of blockchain hype, but the blockchain algorithm is pretty specific to the needs of Bitcoin. It's not as generally applicable as some people like to think. So I suspect if they're mostly just looking around, some of these organisations will lose interest at some point.

Relevant. I'm agreeing that these banks either like what they see or drop the whole thing altogether. It'll be clear which by next winter IMO

and it goes on and on.

I'm not really upset that posts were removed... past is past and you can see nothing really earthshaking has been deleted, but i am curious as to why i am being delete-bombed like this. is it some sort of attack, or is it a glitch? is this happening to anyone else?

all i can think is it is some sort of attack against signature campaigners by some butthurt user...

just the same, i feel these actions are an abuse of the system and i just wanted to make it known to the mods as well as all the other users at these forums...
4  Economy / Speculation / Price Increase Incoming. on: November 23, 2015, 03:55:56 AM
Get ready to dump some coins because a mini spike is going to happen in the next 48 hrs.
How do I know? You ask...

Because I just sold some btc. If it works out the same as every other time I've needed to liquidate, the price will go up at least 15 dollars before tomorrow night.

Just a friendly heads up
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Priority Transactions; What Are The Implications? on: November 20, 2015, 08:38:12 PM
I was just reading about how BTCC is offering priority tx to users. If they want faster confirmations they pay extra and get pushed to the next block. BTCC has 13% of the network so I guess this method might work pretty good (for speeding up the tx in question) but I fear that all manner of negatives will come with it. If BTCC can make profits at this more parties will start doing it, pools and groups will form, it will be like mining where there is an arms race. Then it is all over the place and regular little tx fee transactions will take forever (like when stress testing)

I realize not all transactions require super fast confirmation but some types are dependant on it. Is this going to kick off a new arms race? What can be done to stop this before it gets out of hand? Bigger blocks? Are we finally going to see btc's inability to scale?

I've got a bad feeling about this but I don't understand the tech enough. Need I worry?

EDIT I just saw a thing on the Lightning Network which I didn't 100% understand but get enough of to see it is different than this (off chain) would Alan not be the perfect remedy to prioritized tx?
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Dust and Miners? on: November 19, 2015, 11:54:21 PM
I was just wondering about how detrimental dust can be to miners. I had my BFL 60 in my basement and it worked fine until it simply stopped. Fan runs makes noise but no hashes. The only thing I can see is that there is a fair amount of dust and dirt in my unfinished basement. Could this be what killed my miner? What can I do to remedy it?
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / BFL 60Ghs problems on: November 19, 2015, 01:09:45 AM
Hi, I got my BFL 60ghs ASIC just before the 2013 bubble (thankfully because I was able to pay for the year late thing and make a bit of profit before the difficulty edged me out of the game)
I eventually unplugged it and put it aside because it wasn't making much btc and I needed to do work on the room it ran in
Last week I thought I'd fire it up again just for the hell of it but it does not seem to work any more. I think it is a software problem because it seems to make the right noises like it used to but the program it came with just says nothing is connected.
Is there a new software bundle or a better software bundle I can use? I'm not interested in talking to BFL as they are assh*les but I seem to recal there was some sort of software issues from their end around after I unplugged.

I'm using an acer notebook with Windows to run it
8  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-11-16] CD BTC scam using JP Morgan Branding on: November 19, 2015, 12:10:42 AM

12  Economy / Collectibles / [WTS] 5 troy Oz. 999 silver Commemorative Disney Coin on: August 26, 2015, 10:49:26 PM
I have a 5 troy Oz 999 silver coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of Disney's Snow White. It features Dopey (the greatest dwarf IMHO) and is marked with serial # 001472. The coin is in very good condition, no scratches or dings, with only a slight bit of tarnish on one small part of the edge and will come off with proper cleaning. The plastic case it comes in is scratched a little, and there is no box or certificate of authenticity, but I have taken it to my friend who deals gold and silver and he did his tests (density, magnetism, sound) and said it checks out.

These coins were released as sets of 1/2, 1, and 5 ounce coins, in 1987 and were very popular among collectors, the 5 oz ones being rarest.

I want 1 BTC for this coin. Firm. If you are interested PM me and we can work out shipping and escrow. I live in Canada, to give you a rough idea of what insured shipping might cost depending on where you are located.

here's some pics

Dopey (front)

Dopey (back)

Dopey (front-note no scratches)

Dopey serial # (its a bad photo but you can still read "001472"

Dopey's only "flaw" some tarnishing that will clean off with a little silver polish, or even soap and hot water

Dopey in his scratchy case (back)

Dopey in plastic case (front)

dont miss this chance to pick up a piece of Disney history. you can get these on ebay from time to time, but not while supporting the btc economy!
13  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-08-05]CT- UK PM Includes BTC company on Trade Delegation to SE Asia on: August 05, 2015, 07:52:25 PM
http://cointelegraph.com/news/115065/british-pm-david-cameron-selects-bitcoin-company-for-asian-delegation-

Wait till you see which BTC company... This won't be a very popular choice around here.
It is one of the biggest though...
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Transaction rejected by our node on: July 14, 2015, 09:56:39 PM
ok, so I got this tiny transaction stuck in limbo. its only 8 cents... i think it was a faucet (i click them occasionally, its not vital income by any means) but now its stuck and i have this unconfirmed (3 days now) transaction sitting in my wallet. this is the message ; Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: Transaction was previously accepted but has been pruned from our database. here---> https://blockchain.info/tx-index/68d5e07aed16334a7b6fb22d70fdbc62c42b5e3891e55bf0752d8e0b912f782e

i understand its a dust tx and the stress test has jammed it up, its not really life or death if it ever goes through, but will it eventually? will it go back to the sender and maybe be sent again, or is it gone forever? AND will it ever disappear from my transaction history? (I'm kinda OCD and I dont like how it looks in my wallets tx history)

like i say, I'm not going to die if it never resolves, but can someone explain what happens to this tx now that it has been rejected? are the devs doing anything to clean this stuff up? does it even matter in the bigger scheme of things? just wondering (its stuff like this that reminds me of how little i understand about how bitcoin works)
15  Other / Meta / How can I delete a topic? on: July 08, 2015, 08:02:02 PM
I started a topic in "press" section, because I saw some interesting news last night.
When I woke up this morning there is more news saying that what I saw last night was faked.
So I figured I would go back to press section and remove the original post with the link to the bogus news.
It doesn't look like I can remove a topic I started. Should I simple Lu delete the post and title and hope it goes away?

18  Other / Meta / Unsure why deleted on: June 16, 2015, 07:46:04 AM
I am not mad, or even bothered in the least, by this recent deletion, I simply fail to see the error of my ways. why is this post (quoted below) unacceptable? the violence is so vaguely suggested as to not truly be a threat... is it because i said i would like to punch a guy in the face? I was only being honest. the guy stole a lot of money from me. I'd actually like to kill him... doesn't mean i will. I don't even consider what I said that threatening... pretty obvious i was just venting, isn't it?

i just want to clear up the reason for the deletion of the post... so i can avoid making the same faux pas again

If he cashed out all the AM wallet coins he has what? 7 million USD? I could easily retire in Thialand/Cambodia/Vietnam, or any of a dozen other SE Asian countries with a only couple hundred thousand $$$ with a million I'd live like a king, mansion, swimming pool, servants...everything. Even if he's only got a million, he's set for a life of luxury, no problems. Plus it is so corrupt down there, and so full of people who seek to "disappear" he will have no problem staying hidden.

Fuck, if I had a couple million USD, I could retire anywhere I wanted to. A nice house on 1/4 acre in Portland OR costs ~$300,000 and Portland's nice!

Unless any of you can afford a private eye, FC will never be found. Even if you find him with a PI, you still need to abduct him back to where he will face justice (china) and they'll just take all the money.

I'm 6foot2 weight 215lbs done construction most of my life.
I'd love to know where he is. I'd crowd fund a trip to go visit him.
(picture of FriedCat here)
Its the look on their face before my fist obliterates it that I enjoy most [end quote]

some guidance would be much appreciated
19  Bitcoin / Legal / ASICminer & FriedCat - what to do on: June 04, 2015, 05:53:58 AM
I lost a chunk of change in the form of my shares of asicminer going bust. I realize I will probably never see a satoshi from these assholes, but I still feel that they should be punished. What could a north american do to bring retribution on these chinese nationals? does anyone have any leads on where I can make a formal legal complaint? I do not speak chinese, but i would love to let the chinese authorities know about their corrupt citizen and let them exact revenge for me.

any realistic and low cost solutions appreciated, I will follow up on any realistic suggestions.
20  Economy / Service Discussion / What's Going On at CaVirTex??? on: June 03, 2015, 09:55:44 PM
As a Canadian citizen, my only viable choice for purchasing BTC from an exchange seems to be Cavirtex. They have high fees but still offer btc cheaper than the others (including localbtc)

I still worry that they are small enough and amateurish enough that they would be a prime target for hackers and thieves, i feel it is only a matter of time before we hear "Cavirtex hacked, all de coins be goned! sorry guise!"

I use cavirtex with caution, and try to get in and out real fast, seems to work ok....UNTIL TODAY

bought ~ a btc then COULD NOT WITHDRAW....WITHDRAWALS DISABLED! after following some confusing instructions to add a default withdrawal addy and email them confirmation I sit and wait. This is bullshit for a few reasons. ONE: why so easy to add default addy? no 2fauth... there should be, there should be 2fauth at every action...these guys want to get robbed methinks.

TWO: why do I only find out withdrawals are a problem when I try to withdraw?Huh?? this should be in a bold banner on every page, even before you log in. Something is fishy.

I haven't given up hope, I will get my btc out, but i may not use the cavirtex exchange ever again.

clean up yr act cavirtex, this aint kindergarten
