1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Homesteading Virtual Estates on: May 04, 2013, 02:48:15 PM
Although this topic may not seem related to BTC, I feel this is NOT spam because the project will ultimately support BTC payment and is another use-case for digital assets (vs. just digital money). If it is spam, well read the information anyway and you can thank me later Smiley this is a GOOD project and one that at least indirectly both legitemizes and is legitemized by BTC

You can find more about the project here
http://www.facebook.com/darklabyrinths

a rough prototype here
http://fractwall.appspot.com/html/prototype3.html

and the current funding project here
http://www.gofundme.com/DarkLabyrinths

this project is starting at GoFundMe, will then continue on to Indiegogo and will finally be primed and ready for Kickstarter. I raised over $100 in my first hours of the project and listed in the directory.

Anyway, if you want in on the ground floor to own this virtual estate, there are several things you can do.

If you are a developer, designer, or you can do video, write press releases, help with public relations/marketing, then you can get co-founder credits and earn free property (and many kudos)...i have reserved properties specifically for this purpose

please, please help make this happen, I can guarantee this will return more to the BTC community than almost any other project, especially when one contemplates what will be done with the money raised, and how that factors into step 2, BTC virtual currency and gaming...

definitely worth a look!

2  Bitcoin / Project Development / web developers check this on: March 19, 2013, 09:21:21 AM
i am working on a new project that is currently in alpha. however, i anticipate releasing into beta within 1-2 weeks. i have some of the code staged to github, and have started a wiki (note: half those that read the wiki tell me it makes no sense, and half tell me it's great!)

in any case, i am currently working on implementing this platform on GAE, but am actively working to deploy a range of services across aws, azure and gae with full, open builds, everything for all three platforms.

i started this project in january, and will take me until end of year to complete across all three platforms. i have the technical skill to complete project on time, myself.

however, at least two developers have expressed a very strong desire to be involved, and the more that get involved, the quicker this thing can grow legs.

what's also great is this is especially for you if you love web 2.0, oauth, social software, and html5 development as opposed to having to download and install every freakin' alt-chain that comes along...

At the end of the year, there will be enterprise class implementations of full suite of shaman server classes

with any additional help, we'll be able to generate dozens or maybe even hundreds of apps on this platform during the year's development

current skill-sets immediately helpful:
server-side:  Translation, jinga templating (to help with translation template/i18n file mappings, etc), python, ndb, experience with oauth

client-side: jquery, standard dhtml and html5, canvas, three.js, any other skills helpful to build engaging apps (e.g. json, yui, etc)

https://shaman-labz.appspot.com/

and the wiki

https://github.com/shamaniotas/yotagem/wiki

so if you see value of mining in the browser, understand the transactional limitations of bitcoin network, don't believe in centralization (but also understand fully-mirrored primitive p2p is not the answer), comprehend the value of micro (and sub-micro) economics and transactions, then maybe you'll be interested to watch how this evolves over the next year, or even get involved!

note: i have taken a complete leave of work for the next year to dedicate my life to this project. regardless of win or lose, this ship is going to float, and all her flags will be flyin' by the end of this year. this may seem crazy, and it is crazy enough that it just might work!
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / New screenscrape of satoshi in the wild! on: March 18, 2013, 08:14:58 AM
ever wonder what a satoshi (.00000001 BTC) actually looks like? dredges up discussions of 'colored coins' right? But what follows is a screenscrape of actual yota-gems (satoshi-valued gems) that are mined in the web browser using a web worker.

Here's a screenshot url:

https://github.com/shamaniotas/yotagem/wiki/UI-Mining-Worker-Tab

i'm getting this project ready to stage into production and published full source-code to github shortly.

if nothing else, i hope you find this entertaining or at least mildly entertaining and novel Smiley
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What BitCoin could learn from life (or why bitcoin community deserves a spanking on: March 13, 2013, 11:09:52 PM
first of all, i think it's funny how many arm-chair quarterbacks i see...everyone offering to hire a professional to do this, or pay a developer to do that...but what's in shortage? that's right...technical developers...why? because what we do is not easy. you wanna-be hackers and side-show marketing/sales/management types have no-one to peddle your snake-oil here...

i firmly believe that EVERYTHING needed to take BitCoin to the next level is right here in this community. What's needed is less quarterbacking and more actual effort. I, for one, have an idea that i've been working on. But rather than blow it about and make a big deal, i just keep working on it until it's ready for prime-time. but i'm not just in here blabbering about it, or proposing someone do it, or offering to pay someone to do it, i'm just doing it! what I feel is right.

now i'm a developer and others have other skills. i am not writing test cases for my code, for example, not even unit tests, though i am fully testing of my code and it's pristine (in my coding style), and fully commented (well, almost). But my point is that I am doing my part, in what way i feel is best, and I think that what's needed is for leaders not to stand up and point which direction everyone should go, but simply everyone should start following those who are producing...

for example:

if someone starts a code review of the client with the intent of deriving a spec for an API wrapper class, or even to identify where to 'split' functionality between client/server, whatever...then help with the review if you have that skill...if not, then you can help with setting up testnodes, preparing test-plans and use-cases, or whatever it takes...but it's not just about quality of development. the community needs to expand beyond discussions of finney attacks or the 51% attack, etc., and start embracing discussions of open web standards like NoSQL, HTTPS, OAuth, JSON, HTML5, etc., and building applications that are stable, do not 'attack/spam' the blockchain and move the community forward.

but sitting back on your pompus asses shouting out plays from the comfort of your lazy-boy just isn't going to get anyone anywhere...

true leaders don't shout 'hey, there's an iceburg', they turn the fucking ship! so actually do something, or get the hell out of the way of those trying to get things done!
5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Multiple Signature Bitcoin Account? on: February 26, 2013, 05:41:28 AM
This is something that I am asking to hopefully save some time in unnecessary research and development. I think BitCoin does offer a mechanism to make it so that more than one signature is required to transfer BTC from an account? Please advise if you're aware of such a solution, or the merits/uses of such.
