1  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum connecting to Bitcoin Classic nodes on: October 07, 2016, 10:29:47 AM
Hi all,

Just lately, I've noticed that Electrum sometimes connects to servers that announce in their banner that they are running BTC-C. Does this influence the outcome of sending transactions, etc? They seem to still make it on to the Core blockchain, and not the forked one, for some reason!
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Starting a Signature-Ad Campaign on: September 28, 2016, 03:01:09 PM
I apologise if this seems a somewhat simplistic question, but how do I go about starting a Signature Ad campaign? I see the list of currently active campaigns, maintained by Mitchell, but I've no idea to whom one applies for permission to start one, or where I would post to allow members to apply to wear the signature. I can see there is a standard format, and I would emulate that, but there are many questions.

Also, I apologise if this is outlined somewhere, but SMF in its default theme hurts my head, so I gave up looking after going through a few boards and using the forum Search tool.

Kind regards
3  Other / Politics & Society / Trouble with conventional financial institutions? on: September 23, 2016, 10:46:35 AM
Just as a point of interest, has anyone noticed an unusual and disproportionate (i.e. more so than your friends or peers) difficulty in interacting with banks and building societies since beginning to interact with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency? Some banks do outright terminate accounts on the basis of blockchain-related activity, but I'm thinking of a more insidious type of interference (such as not processing KYC/AML expediently) or anything you have noticed?
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Obtaining bitcoin and cryptocurrency demographic data on: June 29, 2016, 09:18:41 AM
I've noticed a lot lately that many topics are originated on the Discussion board along the lines of "I would sell my bitcoin if..." or "I would do X or Y with my bitcoin". Many of them imitate one another, and generate the same, hackneyed, spammy responses, with no real value obtained.

I'm thinking would there be some way of marshalling those responses into some sensible and statistically valid data, i.e. with an online survey (obviously with a reCAPTCHA) with a prize pot (funded by donations from those seeking to obtain the information, though we'd publish it publicly).

I'm thinking such questions as:

  • What is your total bitcoin holding?
  • Are they held free, or invested?
  • Do you use P2P lenders in BTC?
  • Do you gamble?
  • What country are you from/are they legal there?
  • Have you told your friends/what did they say/do they use BTC themselves?

Anyone else think this would be a valuable idea? I've a VPS and everything; just unwilling to do this altruistically if there's no interest Cheesy

EDIT: I've neglected to add that we'd survey basic demographic data, too, such as age, gender, university/college education status. Actually, I can do it for free and give you a link if you know where I can source an affordable .com TLD
