I read this news about a U.S. servicemember who is being investigated after allegedly making more than $1 million on Polymarket. He was betting on military events where he may have information that was not public yet, so basically this looks like an insider job. There is also a KPMG employee being investigated for a similar case.

So I see this as one problem prediction markets could face because of insider information. Normally we bet because it is a prediction game, but what if someone already knows the outcome because of their job or position?

But the funny thing is, everything is on the blockchain. So if there are suspicious betting activities, they can still be traced more easily. In this case, blockchain transparency can actually be very helpful.

Federal authorities are preparing charges against a U.S. servicemember suspected of placing Polymarket bets on military operations that earned him more than $1 million, part of a coming batch of insider trading cases, according to people familiar with the matter.

The serviceman, who has been under scrutiny since the spring, made successful bets related to military strikes in Iran and Venezuela on the prediction market, the people said. It is one of several investigations that have looked at members of the armed forces who traded war contracts that referenced the timing and outcome of military operations.

Already in my 40s now, and gambling is not really new to me since I was exposed to it when I was still a kid, maybe around 10 years old.

My grandfather had a small gambling place in our town, you know not a real casino, just a small local setup. Sometimes I was asked to watch the players and I would get a small commission whenever someone won. Because of that, I slowly became interested and eventually tried gambling myself.

I always thought that drug addiction is worse than gambling addiction, but there are news saying that in this country, gambling addiction has become harder to quit than drugs.

Overthinking lang ba ako dito, or may totoong risk talaga sa paggamit ng P2P habang hindi pa clear ang status ng Binance sa Pilipinas?

Second game was Spurs vs Wolves. Spurs lost to the Wolves in Game 1, and the line was around -9.5 for Spurs. People probably thought that was too high because the Wolves already beat them, so taking Wolves +9.5 looked easy. But what happened? Spurs beat the Wolves by 30+ points.

So with that, we can see that this is really a business. Oddsmakers know what could possibly happen, and they set the line based on that. In the end, the sharp side still wins most of the time.

So if you are interested in my thoughts today, I have the Cavaliers +3.5. That line looks too low to me, and I think many people will believe the Pistons can win again because they are at home.

Are gamblers who get limited by sportsbooks really “sharp bettors”?

what I understand is these are players who consistently make profit, and that’s why bookies don’t like them and eventually limit their accounts. But I’m not sure how true this is, sometimes I also see claims from bettors saying they got limited just because they were winning but at the same time, there are also people who try to abuse promos, multi-account, or use unfair methods, then blame the sportsbook after getting restricted.

So honestly I’m a bit confused on this. Do sportsbooks really limit players just for being profitable, or is this just something some bettors say to protect their image after getting caught doing something against the rules?

For those who have experience with this, especially in crypto sportsbooks, what actually triggers limits?
Is it really consistent profit, or more on betting patterns and behavior?

With how things are going recently, I’m starting to believe that some games are really rigged. I won’t mention the specific league here, since I don’t want to offend the die hard fans.

There are really only 2 simple ways to look at it.

1. How likely they think something is to happen, not fixed of course
2. How much they will pay you if you win, and this is the part most people notice first

At first, I only understood the second one, which is the payout. That was the easiest part for me to get. I also find decimal odds much easier to understand compared to American odds like -110, which is what you usually see in big US sportsbooks, well obviously because they use the American format there.

But after some time I started noticing that odds are not only about the payout multiplier. They also show the implied probability, or at least the bookmaker’s view of the probability with their margin included.

So now I’m curious how other people look at it.

When you see betting odds, do you mostly see the payout only, or do you also pay attention to the probability behind the odds?

Based on my own experience, I think it does help.

One problem starts when you have money sitting in your wallet that you can easily use for casino deposits. Since there is no exact amount prepared for gambling, it becomes easy to just keep adding more. At first you put in a small amount, then you lose, then you deposit again and raise the bet trying to recover what you already lost. Then if that loses too, you go even bigger. In the end, the whole money in the wallet gets drained because you were treating all of it like part of your bankroll.

I noticed that if I had just decided on one exact amount from the start and treated it as my real bankroll, it probably would have lasted longer. Even if I still lost, at least there was a limit. At least I was clear about how much I was really willing to risk.

So for me, having a fixed budget does not guarantee that you will never chase losses, but it definitely helps control it. Without a clear budget, it is too easy to gamble based on emotion and keep increasing bets just because the money is still there. Sometimes the problem is not only losing, but not being clear from the beginning. We have to know our goal before we start. Otherwise we end up turning any available money into gambling money, and that is usually where chasing losses begins.

Most of us gamblers already know the reality. In the long run, casinos are profitable, not us. No matter how much research we do, we never really find a situation where the edge is clearly on our side.

The idea is simple, find a team that’s on 3 or more losing streak, then start backing them to win. sooner or later they’ll break it, and if you time it right maybe you’ll catch that bounce back game. But I’m not sure if that really works or it’s just one of those gambler’s fallacy stuff. what you guys think?
