61  Economy / Gambling discussion / ANYONE here makes a living in gambling? on: March 08, 2025, 03:31:45 PM
I've heard the phrase "making a living in gambling," but I don't know if there are actually people here who have pulled it off. So, this thread is me asking, are there any users who can prove that it's possible to make a living from gambling?

I'm talking about gambling that's not purely based on luck. I'm sure you're aware of games where skill plays a role like poker and especially sports betting, which is pretty popular.

Is anyone here doing this long-term? If so, I'd love to hear your insights because I'm interested in following this path.
62  Economy / Gambling discussion / Do you take a break when you are in a losing streak? on: February 09, 2025, 11:34:17 AM
I believe this is a very important topic that needed to be discuss by gamblers here because our actions dictates our future...

sometimes when we’re on a losing streak, we tend to get more aggressive in trying to recover our losses, but that’s often the reason why our losses grow even bigger, and in some cases, it can even lead to gambling addiction. So, who here actually takes a break after a losing streak? Or do most just keep going despite the losses?

63  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin will be back to $100k soon. on: January 15, 2025, 03:36:26 PM
Bitcoin suddenly pumped after weeks of being somewhat stagnant, and now we’re getting closer to $100k again. I’ve been reading a lot of news and speculations, the latest being about the upcoming crypto ball hosted by Trump. Could this be the main reason, or is there something deeper driving this surge?
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Hong Kong construction firm Ming Shing invest in bitcoin ( $47 million) on: January 14, 2025, 02:06:41 PM
Another company has invested in Bitcoin, and it’s for a great reason - to boost its liquidity. This is fantastic news because they’re recognizing how Bitcoin can help with liquidity since it’s easy to trade and convert into fiat anytime.

It seems they also see Bitcoin’s potential to grow in the future. Their main concern is liquidity, not its volatility, which shows they’re optimistic about Bitcoin.

65  Economy / Gambling discussion / regulated casino or anonymous casino? on: January 11, 2025, 03:23:01 AM
There are now many casinos marketing themselves as anonymous to attract gamblers. Just curious, which do you think is more appealing, an anonymous casino or a fully regulated casino? Share your reasons why!
66  Economy / Gambling discussion / Which is hard to learn, self control or winning long term? on: January 06, 2025, 02:17:20 PM
This question is directed at all regular gamblers because we are the ones who experience this the most. Personally, I find that learning self-control is harder than becoming a long-term winner.

Ideally, self-control is necessay for achieving long-term success in gambling, but if we’re talking about the long term, it means we’ll face various challenges that test our discipline. That’s exactly what I’ve experienced, I have a bankroll specifically set for the long term, and the strategy is already in place, it’s just a matter of following through. Yet, from time to time, I lose my discipline.

For instance, my plan is to bet only 2% of my bankroll per stake. However, there are times when I increase it to 5%, 10%, or even more, despite knowing it goes against my strategy. This lack of self-control can derail the long-term plan, and that’s a lesson I keep grappling with.

Do we have the same struggle?
67  Other / Meta / Why is it AI coins heavily promoted in altcoins discussion board? on: January 05, 2025, 11:49:15 AM
I’ve noticed some threads discussing certain AI projects that don’t directly market them, and it got me thinking - could this be part of some massive shilling effort to lure investors into AI coins?

I wanted to bring this up here because I know there are a lot of investigators around with good eyes who can dig into this. Am I just being overly suspicious, or are these users really promoting AI projects with legitimate use cases and legit teams? It’d be great to get some insights from others to confirm what’s really going on.

68  Economy / Gambling discussion / Anyone here had already paid taxes on winnings? on: January 04, 2025, 12:02:49 AM
Just curious since there are countries where gambling winnings are taxable... Those who have experience paying taxes on gambling winnings, how much do you typically pay? Also, is there a way to avoid these taxes without getting into trouble? If you don’t mind, please share your insights and mention the country you’re in if possible.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / nice timing - $100k on: December 05, 2024, 02:48:53 AM

I checked Preev, and yup, I saw it... Bitcoin finally hit $100k! I even took a screenshot since it’s the first time it reached this level.

After weeks of waiting for it to cross this milestone, here we are! The big question now is - are we still going to the moon mars from here?
70  Other / Politics & Society / Would Binance be penalized $10.1 billion if Trump were the President before? on: November 10, 2024, 04:31:11 AM
I just want to ask for your opinions on this… We know that Trump is pro-Bitcoin, so he might be more focused on compliance with fewer penalties, if I understand correctly. Let’s go back a bit… talking about exchanges, particularly Binance.

We all know Binance paid billions in penalties - the total based on the sources below was $10.1 billion. So if Trump were president at that time, do you think they wouldn’t have been penalized as much, or maybe wouldn’t have been targeted by the SEC or other government agencies at all?

71  Economy / Speculation / Trump to seemed to be winning, ATH soon? on: November 06, 2024, 02:16:56 AM
Based on the latest update, it looks like Trump is going to win the election, and it’s not even close. Meanwhile, Bitcoin is slowly rising, going from $68k to $71k. This could mean a new Bitcoin all-time high is coming soon, possibly kicking off a real bull run.

72  Economy / Gambling discussion / Study to become a pro and track your bets with a spreadsheet. on: November 04, 2024, 08:37:31 AM
This might be new for some who just gamble without a real bankroll, but for those who are serious about sports betting, consider this: data is crucial for tracking your journey. According to a site I found that also shows a good format for spreadsheet tracking, here are the benefits of keeping tabs on your bets.

https://www.vaultsportshq.com/post/how-to-track-your-sports-bets
Quote
What are the benefits of tracking your bets?

1. You can find what bet types you excel at.  By tracking your bets, and grouping the data by bet type (spreads, totals, moneylines, props, parlays, teasers) you can quickly find out what types profit you the most, and which ones cause you to lose your bankroll to the books.

2. Learn what leagues you profit from the most. This is a big one, and although you probably have a good idea of what leagues you're best at, grouping your bet data by league can greatly improve your chances of figuring out exactly what is causing those wins on your NFL bets, and causing those big losses for NHL bets, for example.

3. Spot any favoritism or biases you have.  I spoke with a semi-pro bettor named William after the 2020-21 NBA season. Will told me that after the season, he broke all his tracked bet data down by team and compared it to the research he had done before he placed each bet. He realized that there were at least 15 times he lost a bet where his research had pointed him to bet on one team, but his favoritism caused him to bet on the opposite team!  Crazy right?  Think of all the biases that could be keeping you from making the right decisions.

4. The ability to follow your money.  By this I mean knowing where your money is going, where you are putting the most in, where you are losing the most, and what areas you are profiting the most

So, sports bettors, has it ever crossed your mind to keep a spreadsheet?
73  Economy / Gambling discussion / I feel more relaxed betting now. on: November 03, 2024, 07:53:00 AM
As the title suggests, I used to think I should pick a few games to analyze and bet on. But with all the free information available online, I think we can place as many bets as we want. By betting on more games while keeping the total daily amount the same, I feel less stressed if I lose one or two bets.

For example, if I risk $100 in total for the day with just 2 bets, going 1-1 would still bother me. But if I spread that $100 over more bets, like $10 per bet, I feel more at ease watching the games. From my experience, this approach has even made me more profitable. What about you? Do you feel the same way, or am I just imagining it?
74  Economy / Gambling discussion / From $50 into $40 million? on: November 02, 2024, 03:56:26 PM
I’ve been reading stories about successful gamblers and thought I’d share this one- it’s truly impressive.

From $50 to $40 million - crazy, right? It shows that making a fortune through gambling is possible if you have the skills. It’s a mistake to think we’re all destined to lose in the long run.

What do you think about this? Isn’t it inspiring already?

Archie Karas: Turning $50 into $40 million

Quote
There have been many tales of gamblers going on amazing runs at the casinos of Las Vegas. However, there may be none more staggering than that of famed punter Archie Karas.

Karas started ‘The Run’ with a mere $50 in his pocket and racked up more than $40 million in winnings. But that’s not where the story ends.

Remarkably, Karas then managed to lose it all and end up with nothing, before being banned from setting foot in a casino.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Trump Coin ($WLFI) Can’t Compete with Bitcoin on: October 19, 2024, 03:55:06 AM
This project has been hyped, but just look at how greedy Trump is with it:

1- His family could take home 75% of the net revenue.
2- The remaining 25% will go to Axiom Management Group (AMG), a Puerto Rico LLC owned by the co-founders Chase Herro and Zachary Folkman.
3- The family has no liability if the project fails.
4- According to their “World Liberty Gold Paper,” Trump’s family will receive 22.5 billion $WLFI tokens, currently valued at $337.5 million, based on a 1.5 cents per token price at launch.

And it’s already looking like a failure because they’ve only raised $12.9 million so far, compared to the $300 million they were aiming for.

See how greedy this is? Trump’s family wants 75% of the revenue and zero liability if the coin fails. It’s clear there’s no real commitment, they’re just using their fame to get people to invest and make money off of them.

This is definitely a project to avoid. It’s better to invest in Bitcoin and just HODL.

76  Local / Pilipinas / FXTM USDT Forex Trading scam on: October 01, 2024, 05:20:34 AM
It's quite similar to the scams reported outside the Philippines. According to the article, here’s what they do.
Quote
Santiago said FXTM uses social engineering, love scam, impersonation scam, phishing links and malicious websites to lure people to invest in its cryptocurrency platform.

Here are the names of the suspects who were caught. Maybe someone here recognizes them or knows if they’re active on any forums.
Quote
NBI director Jaime Santiago said cases of computer-related fraud under Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act, were filed against Arnel Dayrit, Reniel Pabalan, Sharlene Agustin, Amanda Eunice Turalde, Mark Jhondell Padua, Vanesa Agustin and Kay Ann Pabalan.

And it seems like their operation is quite big, considering the number of gadgets they’re using.
Quote
At least 85 desktop computers, 114 cell phones, various subscriber identity module (SIM) cards and documents, which contained e-mails, passwords and cryptocurrency wallet addresses were seized from the suspects.

Those type of scams are mentioned in the other article.

77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pretend that you believe storing btc in an exchange is better than a hard wallet on: September 29, 2024, 08:15:01 AM
For a change, since most of us here recommend not storing Bitcoin on an exchange because of the "not your keys, not your coins" principle, let's flip the script. Although using a hardware wallet is advised, it’s not 100% foolproof either—sometimes we make mistakes, like our devices getting compromised, often due to user errors.

So, let’s have a little debate to test everyone's knowledge here: defend why we should store our Bitcoin on an exchange instead of a hardware wallet. Enjoy! Cheesy

Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, US conduct joint exercise in PH waters

The Philippines is conducting Saturday joint maritime drills within its territorial waters with the defense forces of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Romeo Brawner Jr. announced.

In a statement on Saturday morning, Brawner said the defense forces of the Philippines and its ally-nations, "demonstrating a collective commitment to strengthen regional and international cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific, will conduct a Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity within the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone on September 28, 2024."
80  Economy / Speculation / Did btc hit $70k already? on: September 28, 2024, 06:24:38 AM
I was surprised to read that on Cointelegraph with the headline:

"Bitcoin price hits $70K all-time high as US jobs data squashes US dollar."
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-price-hits-70k-all-time-high-us-jobs-data-dollar

But when I checked on CoinMarketCap, I didn't see any amount of $70K. It reminded me that this news outlet has reported fake news in the past.

Although it's mentioned here
