2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [XPM] Anyone thinking of stopping mining for now (high difficulty, low bounty). on: July 14, 2013, 03:17:17 PM
Like most on here I am using every PC I have at home and some vps instances I have had running. I just had to go out for a few hours and came back to find the difficulty has gone up from 8.0 to 8.4 in the space of three hours.

Its getting very tough to a get a block now, especially when up against banks of 32 core machines ticking away.

Anyone else thinking the same? It just does not seem viable anymore. I might just run a PC I work on for now (as I want to support the coin still).

p.s. This is not a post to complain or whine, I know how it is, and I still love the concept of what primecoin is about, but in the space of one week the difficulty has ramped up and the bounty has dropped by almost half.

Seems like its no longer viable for the smaller miner at this moment in time.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [XPM] Miner Development thread on: July 12, 2013, 09:09:29 AM
To keep things consolidated and tidy I have started this thread as a focal point on what needs to be done to get other miners (namely bfgminer and cgminer) supporting primecoin.

So far it has been established that there is no API active in primecoind and consensus is saying the best one to use is GetBlockTemplate (which replaced the former GetWork). Sunny King has kindly asked which API we want, so that shows he is willing to work with us on this!

Tasks we need to address / work on (with only bfgminer played with so far)

* Difficulty reporting.
* PPS stats (per core perhaps).
* Difficulty reporting.
* GetBlockTemplate API.

Here is the repo:

https://github.com/luke-jr/bfgminer/tree/prime

I will keep updating this post as new info is found.

Please lets try to keep in on topic, so as to benefit all by having a thread that is easy to follow and keep track of.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Litcoin-QT on: April 02, 2013, 10:22:44 PM
I installed the litcoin-QT wallet application sometime ago, and I honestly can't recall encrypting or setting a passphrase.

Looking at the client I can see that 'Encrypt Wallet', 'Change Passphrase' and 'Export' are all grayed out. Anyone know why that is?

I thought it might be as I have encrypted before, but if that is the case why 'export' and 'change passphrase' be grayed out?
