1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / 29 things that are wrong with Bancor on: June 19, 2017, 03:24:19 PM
http://hackingdistributed.com/2017/06/19/bancor-is-flawed/

Great article about the total shitshow that is Bancor.
Personally if I owned any of this coin I would dump it the minute it hits the exchanges.
My prediction is that it makes money at first, slowly drops as people realize its not a needed service, then burns to the ground when the shoddy code is exploited and becomes the next DAO.

I'll be sitting on the sideline for this one.
2  Economy / Exchanges / Coinbase the next Mt Gox? on: June 12, 2017, 12:23:32 AM
Go on the Coinbase support forums or Reddit forum.
Page after page of people unable to access their accounts, weeks or months with no response from support.
Now there are many instances of people having their account locked right after making a large purchase/ bank transfer...
People sending coins to or from Coinbase but never having them show up...

https://community.coinbase.com/t/12-500-usd-wire-in-limbo-112-hours-have-passed-since-they-received-support-merging-my-support-tickets/17728

https://community.coinbase.com/t/sent-a-wire-to-gdax-still-havent-been-credited/17915

https://www.reddit.com/r/CoinBase/comments/6gni7t/all_transaction_confirmed_but_not_showing_in_my/
(These are just a couple examples. There are literally pages of people with suddenly locked accounts, missing coins, etc.)

This shows all the signs of a Ponzi scheme about to collapse.
If you have any coins on Coinbase and still have access to your account, I suggest you withdraw them right now.
(If you are still able to...)
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Capricoin CPC on: June 06, 2017, 07:47:23 PM
Coin is up 45% right now.
Market cap was only $600,000 USD at start, currently at $750,000.

May be a pump, invest at your own risk but this coin is currently seeing a lot of action on Yobit and Bittrex.
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bittrex studies tools on: June 05, 2017, 03:44:04 PM
I have been doing some trading on Bittrex and the site offers a lot of "Studies" tools-
ADX/DMS
Average True Range
Center of Gravity
MACD
etc...

The one I'm most familiar with reading is Bollinger Bands, the rest are mostly new to me.

Hoping I can get some advice from experienced traders as to what studies you are using and the types of indicators you look for in these tools.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Data on price of a coin when added to major exchange? on: May 22, 2017, 10:23:35 PM
Looking for data on coin prices before and after being added to an exchange like Poloniex, Bittrex etc.

How much can a coin with say $10 million market cap go up?
Predictions for a coin like Waves with a $100 million market cap if it were added to Polo?

Any info on where to find this data is greatly appreciated.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / RDD Reddcoin on: May 18, 2017, 12:32:01 AM
So this coin has doubled from 4 satoshi to 8 in the last 24 hours without any news or reason I can find.
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/reddcoin/

Old coin that hasnt been doing anything, and the official forums at
https://www.reddcointalk.org/
dont really have any new updates.

Just a pump or anyone know a reason why this coin is suddenly being traded in such a high volume?
$240k+/ 134.52 BTC traded in last 24 hours.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is anyone actually turning a profit with BURST mining? on: January 17, 2017, 11:15:31 PM
I love Burst, its an amazing project with a great GUI wallet and some really cool ideas,
but I'm wondering if anyone out there is actually MAKING money by mining this coin, or if its purely for speculation that the price will go up?
(Price is currently 63 satoshi on Poloniex as I write this.)

Even with the decreasing cost of hard drive storage, you need many Terrabytes of space to get any results.
Hoping someone with a large setup can post their cost of equipment, the amount of coins they are getting, and their expected ROI.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / 2017 altcoin challenge on: December 23, 2016, 09:30:34 PM
I'm going to start a personal challenge- take a small set amount- say $20 or $50 and invest it in some alt-coins.
Keep track of each trade and any profit or loss, and post it in the thread at the end of each week.
At the end of the year post a total profit or loss.

Would anyone be interested in doing this as a group? Everyone would have to agree on the starting amount and of course, no cheating since its just for fun anyways.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / The Altcoin hack of 2016 on: December 06, 2016, 10:25:00 AM
Where were you on the day the markets crashed Tuesday December 6th 2016.
RIP Altcoins?
10  Economy / Speculation / will Black Friday have any effect on the price of Bitcoin? on: November 24, 2016, 12:35:50 AM
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States, and the following day, "Black Friday", one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Economists are busy trying to predict how much people will spend in stores and online (including "Cyber Monday" the following week- a huge online shopping day)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_(shopping)

"If consumers follow up Thanksgiving by spending a lot of money on Black Friday and retailers show strong numbers then investors might have their first indication that it is shaping up to be a particularly profitable shopping season. This confidence is reflected in the stock market. In this manner, Black Friday could be considered a leading indicator for the markets."

"Shoppers told us they plan to spend 10% more this holiday season; an average of $1,121 each."
http://www.pwc.com/us/en/retail-consumer/assets/pwc-2016-holiday-report-interactive.pdf

So, how does a strong US economy- as shown with the recent rise in the US stock market, bode for the price of Bitcoin in the coming months?
11  Other / Off-topic / Mechanical Keyboard? on: November 04, 2016, 02:09:29 AM
I wanted to get peoples opinions on mechanical keyboards-
what switch do you prefer? do you like different switches for typing and gaming?
what keyboard brand do you prefer?
do you get custom key caps/ etc? (Really customizing your keyboard.)

I prefer cherry blue for typing and was using cherry brown for gaming.
Recently I picked up a Rosewill board on sale that has Kailh blue switches.
I like them so far and the board was definitely worth $50- fully backlit every key.
Hopefully it lasts as long as my last keyboard- a couple years.

If you've never used a mechanical keyboard, do yourself a favor and at least try it.
Anyone who spends a lot of time with computers will tell you- it's definitely worth the money.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Keeping track of your investments- spreadsheets, programs, what do you use? on: October 09, 2016, 04:10:43 PM
Hoping I can get some suggestions as to what people are using to keep track of their investments when buying Bitcoin, Altcoins, etc.
Are you putting things in an Excel spreadsheet/ Google document?
Are there programs that you are using to keep track of what you invested?
Do you remember everything in your head?
I know some exchanges have a buy history but some do not or don't have a very easy to use interface.

I only trade with a small amount of Bitcoin and several Alt-coins, but I need to stay organized and keep track of my investments.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Market manipulation from a technical standpoint on: October 05, 2016, 04:29:00 PM
I wanted to pose a question, since I know there are many programmers and developers who frequent these boards.
The other day I was on an exchange that I do not normally use, when I began observing a coin that was pretty obviously in the middle of a pump.
(Just before the dump)
During this time, I noticed what I believe to be some very suspicious buy and sell orders.

This got me to thinking.
Would a very sophisticated attacker be able to influence the price of a coin through technical manipulation alone?
Obviously anyone with enough bitcoin/ altcoin can tip the scales.
But would someone be able to do this using technical means only?

How good to you think the programmers/ developers on a large exchange are? How good are their formulas/ algorithms for determining a coins price?
What about a smaller exchange?
How much effort would such a task require and how much profit do you think could be made?
Do you believe there are people doing this  currently?
(I would suspect they are but maybe I'm imagining things and it's totally impossible.)
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Estimated time for this transaction to confirm? on: October 02, 2016, 08:32:41 PM
I've got a pending withdraw from a gambling site where they sent the payment with a low transaction fee.
After several hours I started to worry that the payment will not arrive.
If anyone is good with transaction fees and can give me some kind of estimate of how long this transaction will take,
or advice on what to do, it would be greatly appreciated.

Transaction number:
e0a17db7e462f06e1f3a77e903791fcb6d35cab7a4a4eadeec504558780e2396

Fee rate shows as
0.0002008888888888889 BTC per kB
Is this too low? What is an appropriate fee?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / POT coin trending in the last 24 hours on: October 01, 2016, 04:51:13 PM
Saw this coin trending a bit on Poloniex in the last 24 hours.
I didn't realize this coin has been around for two years already.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426324.0

Given the fact that some seed banks/ online head shops actually accept this coin as payment,
is it possible that it might actually become a decent long term investment?

Maybe we could see a new ALL TIME HIGH
(See what I did there?)
16  Bitcoin / Press / [2016-08-21] FBI using coins seized from Silk Road to buy leaked NSA files? on: August 21, 2016, 11:28:19 PM
https://krypt3ia.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/shadowbrokers-bitcoin-transactions-now-theres-some-taint-for-you/

Anyone following recent tech news undoubtedly saw the "ShadowBrokers Group" dump of (supposed) NSA tools and their claim that they would auction off more (again supposedly) newer tools.
The auction is being done in Bitcoin with a buy it now price of 1 million BTC!!!
Recent analysis of Blockchain transactions suggest that coins sent to the address are possibly some of the BTC that was seized from Ross Ulbricht.

More info on the original NSA files can be found here, for anyone that needs to catch up:

17  Bitcoin / Electrum / Accidentally sent a transaction with only 0.00008851 fee on: August 01, 2016, 01:15:30 AM
Sent some coins from my Electrum wallet and for some reason Dynamic fee with 75% multiplier so 0.00038989 BTC/kb was the fee.
It sent 0.0008851 fee for the transaction and its been about an hour with no confirmation.
I think this fee is way too low? What are my chances of this getting confirmed and what are my next steps if it doesn't show up by say, tomorrow morning?

Secondly, what should I set the fee to in my Electrum wallet?
It seems a little silly to let people send something with a fee that won't get your transaction confirmed...  Cry
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Methods to monitor an address on: July 30, 2016, 05:29:08 PM
If I have a known bitcoin address, and wanted to automatically monitor the balance, and possibly even be notified if there is a change in balance,
what are my options to accomplish this?
Are there functions for this built into core, do I need to be running a node, is there a website API for one of the blockchain sites that can accomplish this?

I've done some googling and found a little info, but figured I would ask here since there is probably more than one way to accomplish this,
I'd like to see the advantages/ disadvantages of some different methods.

(I think I should have posted this in Development & Technical Discussion if a mod wants to move it.)
Thanks in advance for any information I can get!
19  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD][US] 2x Gekkoscience Compac USB ASIC stickminers[SOLD] on: July 04, 2016, 03:40:53 PM
*********************SOLD*************************
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.0

I have two of the Gekkoscience stickminers that I'm no longer using.
If anyone is interested in buying them, please send me a message.
They were mostly run at stock speeds with some small periods where I overclocked them to 175-200 mhz for testing.
Never really had any hardware errors.
I would prefer to ship these in the United States since shipping cost/ times would probably be high outside the US.

Please let me know if you are interested and what you feel a reasonable price for the two sticks shipped is.
I will box these up nicely wrapped and padded and send priority shipping USPS.

*********************SOLD******************************

Thanks to anyone who was interested but these have sold and shipped.
Thanks!!!
